It always bugged me that Harbaugh often pretended that it wasn't a problem when asked about it during interviews. Who was he trying to kid?

Less pre-snap shifting around would be nice. It would not only cut down on the delay of game situations, but I think it would allow Kaepernick to get a better look and collect himself before the snap.

Definitely this. He probably wouldn't feel so rushed, which would help everything. It would most likely even help the O-line so they can get up to the line and have time to figure out who they are going to block on a given play. One thing is for sure: they can only get better in this regard
Oh beware the saying, "it can't get worse" it almost always does But good Lord I hope not!

Good grief! I hope it gets much better! Sometimes I wonder if all the shifting was a substitute for being smart. You can train players to shift and look good doing it, but I'd rather see the OL set and know what they need to do without Boone or the center standing up and pointing. If I never see that again...it will be too soon!

Two problems I had with the past regime was that JH said he wouldn't monkey with CKs mechanics (whether he did or not) and they were more arrogant than clever, more smashmouth than smart. I respect the wins and I'll never feel ill toward JH because he helped return respectability to the 9ers, but I'm hoping Tomsula makes us all very happy!

it was a problem for four years. they talked about it but after four years it is clear to me that they either were unable or unwilling to fix the problem, it was a problem no matter the qb, when something like the play clock, which is not a big problem for other teams,,,,, is not fixed after four years then you know the coaches were clueless in this area. i think we do not deserve that s**t which had negative effects on our offense on multiple occasions... when you dare bring up those issues and the fact that the opposing defense knew what we were going to do before we did it,,, the previous coach bathwater drinkers go on a tirade on how we are ungrateful, how dare we be critical and we work for the front office

Lol well I don't know if the clock management can get worse. Hopefully the current coaching staff is well aware of how awful they have been in recent seasons, and have a plan to fix the issue. It cant be that hard, I don't ever see any Niners' opponent who struggles to get the play off in time, and who always has to burn through their timeouts early in the 1st and 2nd half. But the Niners have been doin that for the last 4-5 years it seems.
So, good Lord I hope it doesn't get worse either, bcuz if it does, they will be completely out of timeouts by the end of the 1st and 3rd quarters every game, with even more delay of game penalties

Just like training a dog. If you allow it to happen, it will happen. Harbaugh allowed it. I don't know if Tomsula understands offensive football or not, but I'll bet big money he won't allow this.

he has already decided he will not allow a two locker room team so we are already ahead of last year in my opinion

The team is going to be different this year, and given Kaepernick's work this off-season, Kaepernick should be able to play better.

There are a few things that I really want to see him do.

1. Have a higher completion percentage
2. Reduce his turnovers---fumbles lost and interceptions
3. Reduce the number of sacks that are on him---throw the ball away more frequently
4. Put some air under the ball
5. Lead the receivers
6. Take the short pass when its open

I am positive that team will

1. Call for more passes to the running backs.
2. Get the plays in faster
3. Make better half-time adjustments

The offensive line will be vital. It has to healthy so it can function as unit. Last year, injuries on the offensive line hurt, and hurt badly.

The team as a whole, but the front office in particular, has to deal with the media better. I really think that team's internal conflicts contributed greatly to an 8-8 season.

Looking forward to the season. Hell, I am looking forward to any and all news, not gossip, that we hear from here on out.

i can not speak for buck but i am positive of all those things because i have faith that the coaches and the players saw the issues the previous coaches had with bullet points number two and three and will address them. unlike some , they are not willing to just ignore them and whistle past the end zone. in regards to bullet point number one,, all indications are from the signing of reggie to little bits of information that come out of the coaches we can look forward to see that type of thing. if you did not think bullet points number 2 and 3 were a problem last year and that bullet point number two has been a problem since 2011,,,,, you can not be reasoned with

Trust me I agree that we do have those problems. I'm just curious to how anyone can be positive they'll be fixed besides just having blind faith.

They seem like some of the obvious steps that can be taken.

But the bottom line is that I tend to be optimistic during the off-season.

During the regular season not so much.

I think the steps the team will make are obvious----easy to see---not blind faith; sighted faith.

There is nothing wrong with having faith. There is nothing wrong with being optimistic.

One clue that makes me feel More confident is tomsulas statement about playing to the players strength...and a big part of that is putting them in better situations
Ways to help with the clock and timing issues:

  • practice fast, with shorter times allowed, and keep the playclock in mind as they practice
  • less needless motion or presnap movement
  • streamlined playcalling, Tomsula has already stated he won't interfere
  • hold players accountable to be ready quickly
  • use no huddle more often so when you need it all will be practiced in-game

As for halftime adjustments...it's up to the coaches and i hope they are up to it...can't know until we see

Calling more passes to RBs seems indicated by their signing of Bush.

jeez verb,, you make it sound like a crime against humanity to have some faith that the new coaches will work with the players to fix those things that were and have been messed up. i think i would take faith over blind hate any day of the week. or maybe just have a open mind before we declare the team dead and send out the funeral invitation cards
