Kap is obviously still a work in progress, which ideally, should be further along than it is so far. I think some blame needs to be placed on coaching, at least for the past couple of seasons. He's on the right track now and definitely showed some improvement in various facets of his game. However, I don't think it's unrerasonable to say he still tosses some pretty ugly balls, especially in the medium to long range. Whats the good of burner wide receivers if he cant hit them accurately? This is definitely an area he needs to work on, and let's face it, some QB's never can throw the long ball. Hope he's not one of them.

He was best in the league at long passes in 2012. He can do it.

Kap's batting that ball down was so quick it had to be instinctive. REally heads up and quick both.

Kap improved. Going to have to wait to see if its an aberation like last years win against the cowboys. He showed the same growth in game 1 last year then completely faded after that. Hopefully its not the same thing this year.

even if your theory on him last year is true, and i am not sure it is,,, the holy trinity of roman, jh and morton had ck and the whole team screwed up two ways to sunday,, we have seen what can happen with true coaching and true teaching

He looked the best he has since 2012. I wish he hit that easy 3rd down pass to boldin after making the correct read and progressions.. He torched the cowboys last year though then completely faded. As long as he doesnt get happy feet again he should be fine.
Hes always going to be inconsistent with his throwing motion. He will need to make up for that with his legs. The coaches have done a good job so far playing to his strengths.

Players usually perform better when coaches do that.

I think maybe Kap has more of a basketball "mentality" - more fluid and spontaneous/impromptu feel for action. If so, the kind of offense he played in college fit well with that inclination (and add in a whole lot of athleticism). It almost seems like he is more comfortable throwing on the run on a scramble than he is throwing from within the pocket. When he throws on the move, it seems like his head more naturally figures out how the get the ball from here to there than when he is setting to throw from the pocket. (It seems to work pretty well in medium distance throws). To mix sports analogies, it seems like when he sets to throw from the pocket that his baseball throwing motion is most natural to him so his brain is inclined to come up with a baseball throwing motion as a solution to getting the ball from here to there. That isn't necessarily a bad thing in itself if the best solution of getting the ball from here to there is to throw a dart (to mix in another sport analogy). But, of course, a lot of the solutions of "from here to there" is to not throw in a baseball motion, but with loft and touch. He seems to still be working that out. It's not easy to reprogram down to the level of the cerebellum - the 10,000-reps-to-mastery notion. It would be nice if he was there already because not having it mastered down to the "not have to think about it to do it right level" yet means that he ends up with awkward throwing mechanics sometimes and misses throws that seem like they should be routine.
That's been my impressions anyway. I'm just speculating, but it seems plausible.
I think you can draw a continuum of posters here from those who think they've seen enough that Kap will never get mastery enough of being a quarterback that can carry the team when needed to posters who think Kap is already done that and capable of doing it again under the right system - with a lot of people in between who see that Kap has noticeable room for improvement but that from what they've seen so far, there's good enough reason to hope that he will keep getting mastery.

Cosell knows his stuff but its funny when he says things like this "He wasn't forced to have to make a lot of difficult throws. He wasn't put in a lot of long-yardage situations ... there will be games in which those things happen." Isn't that the point tho? Out of all people he should know whats Kap's issues are and I dont think its about hiding Kap's qb problem but to make it easier for him to run the offense. He made easy throws and went through his reads, thats progress imo and when its time to take over due to teams loading the box it'll be easier for him. Seems like Cosell and some Fans want Kap to come out firing, He will get there.. yes he's a Vet but he went through a lot of BS with the old offense, i say as the weeks go we'll see a lot of progress and by the year end he'll be throwing more and will be better at it.

Here is the thing that I cannot stress enough, even though he had big games in the past, notably the cowboys last year. Those games were just him balling out doing what comes naturally, they were dominated through athleticism, a strong arm and brass balls. They were not indicative of growth. He didn't, in those games show any extra poise in a collapsing pocket, he didn't even climb the pocket all that often, He didn't show a matured level of read progression, or throw arcing touch passes over defenders. That is why even though there were a few off targets and the stats were not as pretty as some games from previous years like the Cowboys or the times we have played the Pack, we are all a bit more excited for him in this win than we were for those. We are and should be more excited for this performance than if he had come out and crushed them doing the same things that he always has...because although Kap's standard mode of play is a dangerous weapon, it makes him an incomplete QB. If we can get the guy we had last night with the old Kap type play still there in his back pocket for the days we really need it.....That is a guy to be really excited about. Imagine if you will a guy who can put up and I hate to say this...An Alex Smith like game week to week paired with a great D and a strong running game. Just hit your reads, find your spots and take what they give you. But the difference is with Kap on those days when the D isn't giving you anything and the odds don't seem to be in our favor, he can still turn on that pure athlete and run for 100 yards and throw that sick deep bomb that only an million dollar arm can.
That's the guy that we saw a hint of on Monday night....that is the guy who people are excited for...

It is a little ridiculous to call that an attempt to hide your QB for sure...every offense is trying to stay out of long down and distance. To call it an attempt to hide your QB comes of smarmy and having an agenda.

Exactly, every other QB makes easy throws. Why would we not want that for Kap? It was awesome to see Kap understand the situation and not try to do too much.
I think Harbaugh put too much on Kap in terms of having Kap make tougher throws constantly. It's like he got so excited over his first 10 starts that he rolled out the Peyton and Tom offense for 2013, where we run the ball maybe 10 times a game. What kind of idiot would do that to their 10 start QB? Worked nice vs Greenbay, only because they refused to cover Boldin. After that nobody could get open. I remember Harbaugh still trying to force that Peyton offense without Vernon against the Colts.
We probably didnt have the QB to run the Peyton offense yet, but we sure as hell didnt have the offensive personnel either, especially without Vernon. I thought Harbaugh really stunted his growth trying to force that kind of offense without any receiving talent and made him lose confidence. He bouncee back once his weapons came back from injury, but then last year happened to everybody. Sucks for Colin.
