Does anyone know what Cossell thought of Kap pre draft? I've noticed some pundits/fans will be more harsh on prospects they didn't like and take it easy on the ones they liked. It would kind of explain why he praises Wilson for doing what he trashes Kap for.
I don't want to say he's just a hater, because we can all admit Kap needs to work on his consistency. I had a friend point out Cossell's hypocritical on Kap and Wilson. Seems like you guys noticed it, too.

Cosell has been working with NFL Films for longer than most fans on this site have been alive. He's asked his opinion on teams/QBs by the media all over the country because of his experience. His last name has nothing to do with it.
I posted what he said about Kap, and a gif of the play in question.
You can make up your own mind.
Do you have a link to him talking about the play in question?

lol no, it was an interview he gave on KNBR after that game in '14. He credited Kap with the play saying it was a great throw, but Kap made it a harder throw than it was. Basically giving no blame to the Oline at all.

Wasn't on these forums when Alex was here, but I definitely would have said the same thing! Can't believe people are pretending haters don't exist.

It's almost like it waiting to scramble helps him know where the bodies are so that he feels safer. A straight drop with eyes down the field exposes QBs for that one hard unseen hit. Wilson scrambles firs so that hit doesn't come and then looks.
Don't disagree with this at all. The niners have had luck when their DL and OLBs were patient and kept him in the pocket...even pressure from all sides.

All pundits are humanly fallible and they have their biases. Cossell doesn't always use facts or examples for his opinions. I don't believe he played or coached football. He played basketball at Amhearst and then went to work with NFL films as a producer...not a football expert. He has worked as a producer for years but that doesn't mean he's an expert on all areas of football. Does he know a lot? Sure. But does he really understand every position and the nuances involved like a coach would. And a lot of coaches have no clue about QB play.
So taken in context, and lightly, he's an interesting guy most of the time.

Let me bring you up to speed...
Cossell constantly talked s**t about Alex and LOTS of posters defended Cossell because he is a "pro" and "watches lots of film" and "knows more than we do"...so it was all justified because a lot of people really disliked Alex.
Fasforward to now.
Cossell is "a hater, doesn't know anything, just doesn't like Kap"
I laugh because you have a few people now saying Cossell is clueless even though they defended him a few years ago. I personally don't like him.

Cosell's analysis is kinda biased towards QBs of the Brady and Peyton Manning types, where basically the QBs are expected more often than not to get it completely correct pre-snap, and if by chance their pre-snap read was wrong, know exactly where to go with the ball based off what they initially see just after the snap.

1. I think, at times, I couldn't believe my eyes watching Colin Kaepernick Monday night. He showed totally newfound poise as a drop-back passer. Not only did he climb the pocket and work deep into progressions, he also kept his eyes downfield. That's something a typical running QB, and especially the Kaepernick of old, does not naturally do. Best of all, Kaepernick still made plays with his feet when appropriate. It was not a flawless performance by any means, and Kaepernick was aided by fantastic play-calling from new coordinator Geep Chryst, who used multi-tight end formations, moving pockets and the running game to get his QB comfortable. But if Kaepernick builds on this performance and becomes a respectable pocket passer, we'd be looking at one of football's greatest quarterbacking growth spurts.
why is that used as a demerit and not a plus?
tell me what quarterback isn't aided by fantastic play calling who uses the personnel to get their qb comfortable lol
this is what im talking about.

He tends to, as many pundits do, rely on common held beliefs to form his opinions. He then watches film to verify his opinion...which is easy to do..."Look, he missed that throw!"

I recall it. I personally was calling him shortsighted and a hater in 2011 the whole year. Everyone was bashing Alex including Jamie Dukes yet he kept winning

but that's all quarterbacking is.
you need the pre snap. how can he grow in doing that getting to the line with barely enough time to even run the play? nvm diagnose the defense before lol
