At the end of the day he's just like any other person. Very few announcers/prognosticators/analysts or whatever you want to call them are truly unbiased.
He knows how to break down film. He doesn't know the actual play called, he doesn't know the audbiles if any available to the QB. He doesn't know if there were communication issues(though sometimes you can tell from film when guys aren't on the same page). He doesn't know how the reads go on a given play but can only analyze based on where the QB looks.
As someone said he's definitely biased towards pocket passers so he tends to be more critical of the running guys.
He can look at a play and say "Kap had Smith on this play and missed him" but maybe Smith was a later read on that play and Kap thought he had an earlier throw he could make or maybe he was right and Kap missed him.
What does bother me is like 49erphan mentioned above...no reason to claim 49ers hid Kap. It does come off as bashing of sorts and he could've simply stated that the coaches moved him around due to questions at OL to put him into situations where he's more comfortable and with Hyde they didn't need him to do much.
I'm very curious about his breakdown of Peyton Manning week 1...somehow I doubt he took it easy on him.

The only thing that i dislike about Cossell is that last year in a lot of his interviews he kept talking about how Kap is quick to run when the first read is not there or he doesn't keep his eye on the field, things like that. NOW fast forward to game 1, we all saw Kap has improved and it might not show in that stat sheet but he improved a lot compared to last year, he did a lot of the things they said he doesn't do... then this guy Cossell who's job is to watch films comes out saying " did a great job hiding Kap " why cant he just give him props when props is due, everyone is saying Kap improved. Instead of giving positive remark he gave a negative remark, i understand he's entitled to his own opinion and i respect his opinion but it does sound like he has an agenda towards Kap because it seems like he's the only one who gave bad remarks even for just 1 game. I guess what im trying to say is that Cossell watches so much film but cant seem to see the difference between last years Kap and Game 1 Kap, biased or unbiased there's a big difference in improvement between those two film.

His commentary on Smith was mostly fair though. Alex wouldn't take the big shot when it was there. As evidenced by last night he still doesn't.
What was unfair on his criticism of both qbs was to ignore the play callers role in their struggles. That is his one big flaw. You can't assume every play caller is fantastic. Roman set both guys up to fail by not playing to their strengths.

We saw him on multiple plays go through his reads and choose to throw instead of run....but of course now the narrative is we're "hiding" himOriginally posted by 49ersOnMINE:The only thing that i dislike about Cossell is that last year in a lot of his interviews he kept talking about how Kap is quick to run when the first read is not there or he doesn't keep his eye on the field, things like that. Steeler's linebackers on their enthusiasm on playing Kapernikus this week:
"As pass rushers, we love that we're playing Kaepernick because he's going to hold the ball, and you're going to get those opportunities," Moats continued. "I felt like last week we had good rushes going, but he was getting rid of it so quick you don't see the fruits of that. This week, you're actually going to see that, so we're excited."Read more here: http://www.sacbee.com/sports/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/article35693772.html#storylink=cpy

I believe Cossell is guilty of reading stuff and repeating it without sitting down and going over the game. It's understandable given that these guys write about all things football, but it should be taken for what it is--regurgitated groupthink.

So every pundit's story should be taken as accurate...even when they disagree with each other? Hmm...that might be confusing!

Well, somebody tell these geniuses that Brady doesn't have the luxury of not throwing it quick both based on his mobility and his personnel. Long gone are the days of having Moss streak down the field for a bomb.
If they intend to try and bludgeon every play, they will get hurt in the run game.
Man, my hatred for the Steelers has quickly resurfaced. This is one of the benefits of being disrespected again........you can now have hatred for so many teams now, instead of just the tough ones like Seattle and Green Bay.

But he went beyond that to say and strongly imply that the coaches "hid" Kap without providing any evidence that they had any such motivation - that was speculation on his part. That shows a negative bias. If he had left out the talk about "hiding" Kap, I wouldn't have had much of a problem with most of the rest of the article.
This...it was the choice of words. To say that they hid him implies A) zero progress and B) that the whole game plan had to be conjured simply to hide how bad he is. It is a matter of perspective as to if you think he is being deliberate about the use of the word or it is just a poor choice of verbiage.

Always like it when an idiot provides billboard material. When will these guys learn not to say anything about the opposition before the game is played.
