So picking AJJ while Jeffery was available wasn't a huge fail?

A. Jeffery was weird because I remember heading into the 2011 NCAA season he was kinda looked at as the WR in college. I can't remember if it was injury/performance/combine but the buzz around him really cooled off. He went from seen as the top WR to maybe a 2nd rounder. Obviously he's proven that what ever the knocks were they were not valid. He's been tremendous thus far in his career.

Yea idk what happened to the hype. Ever since that one handed catch leaping over the defender at SC, i thought he was going to be a stud. He was, at least to me, the obvious choice over someone most had never heard of.

I can't imagine how good our offense would be with a top-5 O-Line.

A few things that I'd like to see the offense do...

1.)Move Kaepernick around in the pocket more. We were doing a pretty good job of that against the Vikings, but not so much against the Steelers.

2.)I'd like to see some more play-action passes, especially if Hyde is having a good game.

3.)Even though this is number 3, it's probably the thing that I'd like to see changed the most, and that's all of the 3-TE sets. The coaching staff thinks it helps our running game more, but I think that it hurts it. Taking all of the speed off of the field lets the Safeties not have to worry about getting beat deep. It lets them play the run better.

I agree about the 3 TE sets.

I think it can be very effective when you can surprise a team with it, or have some play adjustment options.

For instance, it could be a strong 2nd and short formation where you have the ability to spread the TEs out if you feel the box is getting too cramped. If you bring "23" personnel and now spread all the TEs wide, you can still run a bit of power and/or throw.

I feel we will get the run/pass formula down correctly soon.........both the ratio and timing. The timing might be even more important than the ratio...

Typically I would agree about moving Kap out of the pocket more. But against the Steelers I think Kap had his best game as a passing QB since week 1 in 2013 against the packers when him and boldin went off.

When you figure out how to add, we may start discussing the existence calculus.

?......So you're saying it wasn't a fail?

Only thing I can think of about drafting Jenkins is that they were looking for a specific type of fast receiver or even maybe like a victor Cruz type guy. We had just had him terrorize us (especially the first half) in the conference title game. I think they looked at Jenkins and saw the 4.38 40 time and the 90 catches for 1300 yards in the big ten and thought they may have found their guy. Rumor has it, if we didn't take Jenkins at 30, he was gonna go to STL at like 33. An absolute miss, personally I wanted TE Fleener out of Stanford at 30 that year. I wanted us to recreate the 3 TE sets Harbs was using in college.

Fleener would've been nice. We already had a bunch of short receivers. I get the speed, but he wasn't going to help our RZ woes. We had our RZ and #1 receiver served on a silver platter, but Baalke thought it would be cute to show how much smarter he is than everybody. And now we still don't have a tall jump ball RZ target.

Kap hitting 7+ receivers in each of the 2 games shows that if you give him options he will take them.
The emphasis on taking what the defense gives you is what we felt had been missing but it is there now we need to take our shots as well. The touchdown came on a play action max protect. We need to run more of those.
The hard count has always been in his arsenal. We did not get to see it on display because you can't use a hard count when you get to the line with 10 seconds left and have to call the play.
In that same theme you can't properly diagnose or check plays with so little time to the line.
The key is our guards and center. If they can perform decently we'll be in really good shape.

It's time to change the type of offense we run once and for all.
We can lean on the running game but we need to change the type of running from 3 tight end big running, to removing the linebacker off the field and letting hyde rumble on a nickel and dime back out of the zone blocking system.
Put the speed at the wr out on the field and just tempo/wear teams all the way out.

I guess you could say they weren't #winning at that draft right?

Yeah cuz it helped the Rams by saying they were going to draft a bust? What a joke. Do you try to make your posts as bad as possible?

I thought most of this analysis was accurate. Although, I think toward the end, the writer's true colors began to bleed through. Kaep's redzone numbers have improved every year since he has been in the league. His numbers in the redzone through 2 games this year may not be popping out on paper but with his vast improvement in all things passing, I would have to believe those numbers will improve as the season progresses. The writer also made a comment about Colin being responsible for a lot of the sacks he took last year but never provided any statistics to back up his claims. According to PFF, his analysis on that aspect is just not factual. Other than those 2 pet peeves, I think the article is a nice read.

PFF's analysis of sacks that Kaep is responsible for isn't factual either.....

The article makes clear that stats have to be put into context.
Say what you want but I, like most fans, don't know anything about studying film and building a case for it one way or the other. All I can base my opinion on is a televised broadcast and what these advanced sporting stat websites have to offer. So to me, they are factual. If you want to break down film and explain to me why the PFF stats are wrong, I'm all ears. Otherwise, I will base my statements on what is available to me.
Les go Kap. We got a fierce defense and pass rush coming our way.
