Im not saying we should have kept Alex but Kaep was supposed to be an upgrade over him and just looking at the numbers its not much of an upgrade at all
I get what you're saying but the numbers are similar but the huge variable is the different teams. It changes everything and really throws those stats out the window unless they were on the same team with the exact same set of circumstances
Different teams, different opponents, different roster. Top to bottom everything is different.
I have been a kaep supporter all along but i just dont know anymore. Im trying to keep and even keel and not get too dramatic one way or the other but i just dont know if he is the guy
Partly because i think in the nfl it takes a perfect or almost perfect fit to be successful from the ownership down to the player to be successful
The gm has to match up with the coach and the coach with coordinators and coordinators to match up with position coaches and position coaches to match with players and all of them intertwining to create a successful team.
Maybe in the perfect, albeit different, system then we run kaep could be the best qb ever but how do you know or maybe he isnt the qb and everything else is just fine but as you start tweaking things other parts of the system fall out of whack and the team really gets lost. Im not just talking about the last 2 games but the whole season and future seasons
I know it sounds like im rambling and at the end of the day im not as ready to jump off a ledge as other people because its only 2 games but it has been an epic 2 game butt beating but i am just really frustrated and thought we would be better than this and kaep would be too. Qbs have bad games all the time but this blame goes all arpund but this is the Kaep thread so im trying to focus on him
Hopefully it was just the growing pains of all the new pieces but damn. If that was the case it would resemble some form of a competitive team but we just look like some of the filler games the NCAA powerhouses pad their schedule with right now

Exactly, teams were saying it last year too. Its not the coach its the QB and his lack of intelligence.

Kaepernick is basically a stupid quarter back with non of the skills needed to be successful. I commented earlier that Colin has the Steve Sax syndrome
and has no control of where he is passing the ball. The Sax syndrome involves an individual who has lost the ability to let his muscle memory take over
and once doubt creeps in, you see him throw passes to he knows not where. Once the muscle memory has been lost, he is done. I predict he will not be
pn the ream or certainly on as a backup to Gabbert who actually shows ability and poise during pre season. Kaepernick has not thrown a td pass in preseason
in at least 3 years. He makes consistently poor decisions on passing downs when he makes horrific decisions by throwing the ball out of bounds where nobody
can catch the ball, he always throws the ball out of the field of play and If Gabbert is not given the start next week, 49er fans should be booing Colin off the field along
with Tomsula and Jed York. 49er fans must be vocal and make themselves impossible to ignore. I can keep watching what they are putting on the field. I started
watching the niners in 1953 as a small boy, I believe I have seniority opinions and I have never seen a 49er quarterback digress to this extent. His post game comments are telling , He accepts responsibility in a monotone voice like doing that is enough. Only thing that is enough is him to ask for a leave of absence to

Arizona's Tyrann Mathieu, postgame: "Their passing game has been simplified so much, it was easy for us to anticipate routes."
Translation: Kap is so slow they had to dumb the playbook down so much other teams can see it coming on Friday.....this is not the first time an opponent has said this about 49er passing under Kap. I believe Seattle said the same after the Thanksgiving beating they handed out last year.
Something must be done about Kap, the team will not progress with him as QB. He is the least intelligent human on the field playing a position that demands intelligence and quick thinking. It just wont work.
At this point we shouldn't be simplifying it....We should be expanding it.
Something is Rotten in Denmark

Kaep looked good the first two games so im not gonna let this one game of poop play make me forget that. Hopefully he and the team bounce back and get a huge win vs Green Bay

I'm not a Kap lover, he's a man, I prefer nicely rounded women.
As a matter of fact today was pretty close for the last straw for me; but I'll give him some more games see if we get any improvement..

It's a tough situation. I mean all Qbs have bad games but Kaps regression is alarming. In a way he reminds of Cutler. He's capable of being a franchise QB and can get you to the promise land (Kap has) but then he will have games where you just watch wondering "wtf how did this guy even get drafted?"
I don't know man. I don't really know what to think anymore. I'm at a loss. I mean when Alex was around and he had a s**t game with multiple picks we knew it was "out of character" and he was likely forcing s**t. He's just a conservative QB. Kap on the other hand was supposed to be this "smart" running QB who took calculated risks and could do so unlike his predecessor because of his arm strength. Instead...he just looks like a totally different guy out there.
I'm still willing to give him the benefit of doubt. Today he looked completely shell shocked after the first two pick 6s.
it's kinda funny to me because people created this myth of kap and almost a cult of kap, thinking he was much better than he actually is, and then when reality catches up to them they first try to make excuses and then completely disown him. instead of just looking at it from objective point of view and seeing who kap is as a qb in the first place.
lets recap quickly. alex smith becomes a much better qb in 2011. most people attribute it to harbaugh. I do not. sure, harbs helped, but in reality our team just got better as a whole. we could afford to win with defense, special teams and run game. defense is a young qbs best friend and while alex smith wasnt young (we'll get to our young qb in a sec), it certainly helped him as well
in 2012 we are rolling, we have decent schedule and alex goes down. kaep emerges and teams are caught offguard. we gain another great running weapon and a potential for big plays teams werent accustomed to seeing from our passing game. playaction is a huge weapon in the arsenal now. we go almost all the way to win the SB and the cult legend of kaep is born. this is what people will cite (team wins) as argument to why kaep is good. he plays pretty well in the playoffs, nonetheless.
but kaep is never a great passing qb throughout all this. he lacks what great passing qbs have- consistency. the 49ers win with defense and run game, something the 49ers fans will scold russ wilson for, ironically enough. numbers do not lie - the 49ers under harbaugh do really well, but theyre exactly .500 in games in the kaep era where they had to throw the ball 25 times or more. Im pretty sure its probably as bad with alex smith as the qb, if not worse. the 49ers won games because of defense
does this mean kap is garbage ? no it does not. kap is still a young qb who has a lot of positives to come with his negatives. its just that most peoples expectations of him were way too high and they created an alternate reality in which kaep was really good as a passer and now is heavily regressing. I wouldnt say hes necessarily heavily regressing- the team simply doesnt have a good defense anymore. with no good D, the run game is not enough. with no good defense, only elite qbs can carry games by themselves, with few exceptions here and there. kaep, just like alex smith are incapable of carrying offense and participating in shootouts. Id say alex smiths better consistency on short passes probably results in less stalled drive, but in general it does not matter- the team made the right choice in trading alex and retaining kaep anyway
defenses win games and win championships. sure, today even if we had a good D we probably would still lose because of a brainfart game by kap. but the facts remains - a good defense will make a quarterback look better than he is. it is no surprise when defense sucks, the qb does not look good.
it is surprising to people react this way after this game after they thought he looked very good in first two games. yeah, when he has a bad game, its very bad. he just falls apart mentally (I had no words for the 3rd pick, Im not even sure what that was)- see the bears game and todays game.

Kap needs like perfect protection to throw well..that or rollout. Since we cant rollout every play and the line is gonna remain s**tty he wont play well consistently. He may have a good game here or there, but we're still gonna lose cuz our D cant stop anybody and Kap cant carry the team.

Sounds eerily familiar to something we used to hear around here many moons ago.
