I actually think he's better than 80% of the rookies in this draft class, that's how bad it was.

I would say us keeping Gabbert is probably a combination of things:

1) Lack of confidence in this year's QB draft class
2) Money - Gabbert is cheaper than the better veteran QBs out there
3) Hope that Gabbert with another year on the team without the pressure of being a 1st round pick and forced-into-the-fire starter should be better.

Agreed I don't think he's horrible as a backup especially at his current price tag.

Look at all that illegal contact from ET. From the 15 yard line down to about the 2.

No flag though. Surprise.

literally.... in all facets..... a game of inches.........

We got f**ked that whole game.

The catch Boldin made over Thomas was a matter of inches. The illegal contact by Thomas covered nearly 15 yards.

We got f**ked that whole game.

That video on YouTube that talks about how much we got screwed in that game is unreal.

Most notably A--- after the top two the QB cliff was STEEEEP this year. There also was not much of value on the free agent market, so really we likely would of had to give up a piece to improve there.

some of it's true, some of it has errors that just aren't true. For example, there's one instance where Seattle runs out of bounds and then they show when the ball was snapped that they had something like 47 seconds between the two and the playclock was still at 2 or 3. By NFL rules, when a player goes out of bounds, before 2 minutes to go in each half, the game-clock continues to run. However, the play clock does not start until the ball is placed by the officials and the officials give a whistle and that Pete Townsend like rotating arm movement to signify the start of the play-clock. There's several instances like that where the video just has ignorances of the NFL rules. But, there are a couple instances where the officials got it wrong against us, but not nearly as many times as it's shown.

Yep.

To be fair, I also think that the teams that cycle through 3-6th round pick backup QBs are wasting draft capital to begin with.

If you need someone to step in for a game or two there are a lot of cheap veterans who don't need a ton of practice time who can do that, and if your QB is knocked out for the year it doesn't much matter anyway.

Overall I think developing a backup QB is almost always a waste of resources (both in terms of draft capital and practice snaps). Teams with their starter in place are MUCH better off having a veteran backup and a 7th round/UDFA on the practice squad who has the outside shot of maybe one day replacing the veteran backup.

Joe Montana was a 3rd Rd pick..... Just sayin - it's not always a waste of draft capital. If the coach believes that there's potential value there. Now, for every Joe(or I should really more say, "for every starting QB 3rd rounder") there's 20 Elvis Grbac's.....

Tony Romo wasn't even drafted. Neither was Jeff Garcia. They're both pretty good.

Lol if we had drafted the Montana of old on our team right now but changed his name, this board would cry and moan. Hes the ultimate dink and dunk you to death. This board hates the constant Dink and Dunk's QB.

I agree that this is the popular view, but having watched his entire career, I can tell you with confidence that Montana threw a very nice long bomb.

Grbac was an 8th round pick...

...but I get your point.
