That 4th QTR stat was well reported. The 49ers couldn't close to save their lives last year. If they put together complete games against CHI, STL, & OAK, 8-8 turns into 11-5.

It pains me to remember it, but against Oakland the 9ers were only leading for six minutes of clock time spanning the end of the first and beginning of the second quarter.

That game wasn't about not finishing, it was about just getting beaten.

Edit: just checked. The 9ers were also up by a field goal for one drive toward the start of the 3rd quarter.

Both times in the game the 9ers were up (by four and then three) they lost the lead on the ensuing drive. They just got beat, man. Ughh.

They got out coached. Gore was averaging over 4 yards a carry in the first half and the coaches forgot about him in the second half. We also sat back and let a rookie qb dink and dunk all up and down the field which would have been fine if we were actually running the ball and controlling the clock like we should have.

Jim was never in charge of the draft and Baalke would never be that stupid. Even if Luck is the next Manning, you never throw away the future for a shiny new toy, just ask the Saints and the Redskins how that usually works out.

The Saints or the Redskins were not a quarterback away from winning multiple Superbowls.

For the record, I am not saying we should or shouldn't have done it. Just saying the situations were not even close to being similar.

all kap has ever needed was consistent time and weapons. give him consistent time and weapons and he picks defenses apart without exception.

Luck is overrated anyways.

I agree. I am going to go as far as to say if Kap was on the Colts, they would have won more playoff games then with luck.

LOL! Dundee looked half black himself
So on ESPN first take Tuesday morning Stephen a Smith was talking about the new Ryan Tannehill contract extension and casually mentioning some other comparative QBs and their contract figures, etc. He just happens to throw out Kaepernick and his $61 million signing bonus and I'm sitting there thinking WTF. I can't believe how stupid and irresponsible some of these sports media continue to be, they still think Kap got that big of a signing bonus. It really only amounted to about $13 million. What a mental midget.
All the talk about the ineptness of the coaching staff during that 3 year run of Championship game appearances is talked about over and over on the Zone. For me the reality of those 3 years is that we did not catch one lucky break or call that went our way in any of those big games.

I agree, they did deserve one. But i also think Harbaughs offense needed some change.

It worked great in 2011, then stagnant in 2012. After they put Kap in, the offense was amazing. By the time the playoffs came around, they were the best offense in the NFL imho. Even outscored the ravens O in the SB.

Thing is 2 teams had already eluded to figuring out our offense. The seahawks and rams. Despite beating the seahawks the first game, they held our offense to 13 points both games. And we all know how the rams games went that year.

We go into 2013 thinking we have this awesome offense killing the pack, until we run into to a team that had tips on our offense. Harbaugh never recovered from that Seahawk game. We lost Davis the next game, Harbaugh tried to force the pass with only Boldin as an option to throw to and the offense has been out of sync ever since.

6/4/2014: Signed a seven-year, $126.97 million contract. The deal contains $61 million guaranteed, although only $13.073 was guaranteed at signing -- a $12,328,766 signing bonus, Kaepernick's 2014 base salary, and a $100,000 first-year workout bonus. Kaepernick's 2015-2017 base salaries are guaranteed only for injury. Kaepernick is eligible for annual $2 million per-game roster bonuses and offseason workout bonuses of $400,000 in years two through seven. 2015: $12.4 million, 2016: $13.9 million, 2017: $16.5 million, 2018: $17 million, 2019: $18.8 million, 2020: $21 million, 2021: Free Agent

All he's doing is repeating the advertised details.

I can't wait to see Kaepernick get started playing like this against Seattle. These highlights were all against Green Bay and Carolina.
