Never heard anyone call Laimbeer a thug. The use of the word thug is mostly by white fans referring to black players.
Disagree, but then my Great Aunt use to call the rowdies in her classroom little thugs. That was in the forties and fifties.
Keep in mind the context under which Kap is referred to as a "thug". It's not because he has a criminal record, or has displayed any violent or "aggressive" tendencies. It's strictly based on appearances. His tattoos, his choice of clothing, accessories or even how he wears his hat. It's an image thing...and that's something is quite transparently racist to me.
I think the context of the word thug is now defined by rap music. In that context anyone trying to be or look hip hop might be called a thug, or call himself a thug. The funny thing is that Kaepernick has never said anything to lead fans to conclude that he is at all intersted in being hip hop. He is a very fashion conscious person who has excellent taste in clothes, from what I've seen, and who wears head phones to tune out the world...which may be a huge part of folks seeing him as standoffish or aloof.
But how many times have I heard him called a thug? Never except on this forum by a few guys getting quite a reaction.
Laimbeer, Mahorn and Rodman were called thugs because they beat the h*ll out of opposing players.
I think everyone should be uncomfortable labeling others...especially based on a word with old and varied meaning and context.
