this is how GOAT is born. GOATs get heavy media push after doing unthinkable. just look at all the other GOATs in other sports. they become the GOAT when the media says so. just look at these -

I'm a huge Magic johnson guy. Growing up magic was my guy. he was my 1st real sports hero. and when MJ became the GOAT after 1st peat. many 'historians' argued against it, and i was too. MJ beat barkley's suns and he avged like 41pts in the finals. and the word GOAT was heavily forced to our brain.

I argued that Magic had 2 more rings and he went to way more championships. i argued that Magic made everybody around better and was a better leader. but there was no debate because media pushed for it and fans were in awe of MJ's greatness. MJ was really that great and fans bought into MJ=GOAT. obviously, MJ came back from the retirement and won 3 more rings and the rest is history.

i was just like some of you guys. i really believed Magic was better than michael from 1993-1996 ish. but then i gave it up when MJ kept on winning. i was just blinded by my love for Magic. i mean magic was great. i think magic is the 2nd greatest player of all time. i know kareem won more, russell won more, wilt was more dominant, and etc. but magic was the man. he was pure joy to watch. but MJ is better. i gave it up.

i think many of you will slowly turn and gracefully agree that brady is the GOAT. i already see many niners fans admitting brady is the GOAT. i just think this is fascinating. i guess it's a human nature. i totally understand it.

it's a made up title with far too many factors to make an accurate comparison, people can anoint who they like and none of it matters.

I pick the guy who I'd want playing for me in a SB because I think Joe gives me the best chance of winning, you and anyone else can pick who they like and it's cool.

and what if brady retired in 2005 due to freak injury? he would've been 11-1 in the playoffs and 3-0 in the SB. going to 3SBs in 5 seasons. does that make him better QB then a guy who went to 7 SBs and winning 5 in 15 healthy seasons?

IMO, not only brady edges montana out in longevity, but he is way more accomplished QB for accumulating much more bulk stats, playoff stats, winning more games, more playoff games, more SB appearances, and more SB.

it's really a simple math. and longevity is a part of a greatness. would you want your future franchise QB to play 10 years or 16 years? you know the answer.

Let me spell it out to you.

People are entitled to their opinions. Your arguments have all been rebutted during this thread. Because the end result is, this is all the matter of opinion.

You dont seem to be able to let go. This is a 49ers forum. The name should have given it away. I am not sure why a fan of another team should feel the need to come here to argue the case for Brady. Oh, once or twice, maybe, but to keep coming back and arguing - because you are no longer debating, your continuing refusal to allow other people their opinions is merely argumentative.

I wonder how you would be received in a Seahawks forum if you had a similar attitude. Actually I dont need to wonder. You would have been banned some time ago.

So here it is. You can stay if your purpose is to have a polite discussion about football. Dont always expect politeness in return. This is not your home field. But if your sole purpose here is to continue this futile Montana vs Brady argument, you will not be welcome.
Thanks for empathizing nate. With your encouragement and support, well eventually admit the truth. Youre so selfless and patient. I think you should run a "Joe Montana is not as good as Tom Brady" support group. We'd all be very grateful.

When you want a solid chance of getting to a SB, it's probably best to go with Brady (more wins in playoffs / got to more SBs).

When you want to guarantee a SB victory... I would go with Montana (ZERO losses / INTs in SBs / No need for OT).

I truly cannot stand the Seahawks and many of their fans but I dont know why you are coming down on Nate. He is expressing an opinion and I dont believe he has been offensive or abusive. I guess he must not have been given the fact that he doesnt have a warning. He should be entitled to his side of the debate without being told that he will not be welcome. Unless that is, if you are telling all the others in here the same thing even if they have an opposing view.

Trust me, if you have truly been paying attention to this thread and reading all of the posts you would see MANY posts by some Niner fans that ARE warnable posts. Ive been called out because I dont think its a slam dunk that Joe is the GOAT and I have been a Niners fan longer than pretty much everyone in here. You can STILL be a true blue 49er fan and think Tom Brady is at least the equal of Joe Montana. That is OK.

The thread has certainly run its course and it is mostly rehash. The post right before this one has been said probably 10 times now. I would get it if it was locked but I dont get your post above.

If mcdaniels could pick one rookie qb to run his offense, would it be brady montana or rodgers? We all know what he would say publicly. But privately....?

Same question for walsh and his wco circa 1979. Thoughts?
Brady is the GOAT. I know that is blasphemy. Atleast, comfort yourself knowing the GOAT is a secret 9ers fan who was born in CA.

Steve Young is my personal favorite but he won't get a invite to the GOAT discussion because he only won 1
if we're going for any player I'd pick Barry Sanders as the GOAT and he won none.

Why is Mcdaniels picking the QB?

No offense but this is a silly question. One guy excels for one team and the other guy was perfect for the other team. Why would they chose the other guy?

We do know that at 200 lbs and the way he played, it would be a tough ask of Joe to hang in there against the size of today's players.

I guess we're ok now with off topic opinions / not whining anymore about it just keeping it about GOAT... thought maybe we might have to get permission for stating opinions in a forum

I agree that the question is silly but I dont agree that it would be a tough ask of Joe to hang in there in todays game. Guys like Drew Brees and Russell Wilson have been able to play at a high level and remain healthy. I dont see why Joe couldnt "hang".

Joe would be great today just like Brady would have been incredible in the 80s.
