Montana is still the GOAT. GOATS dont lose championships or wear uggs.
Compromise, Joe is the goat at super bowl winning percentage but when it comes to every other qb measurable he's #2 including total Superbowl wins.
Probably, but if Brady played in the 80's taking hits like Joe did his head would have flown off his body, rolled through the tunnel, past the locker room and right into the parking lot where someone tailgating would've added it to the grill.
The irony is that Brady first played in the league under many of the same rules that Montana did. Linemen on avg today are also about 30lbs heavier, faster and stronger than their counterparts in the 80s even LT the guy who broke Joe's back is only listed at 237lbs. Cheap shots also still happen even in today's NFL and gruesome injuries still take place in a regular basis. Joe was also a risk taking scrambler who was prone to taking more punishment than Brady who is more Marino like in the pocket protecting himself.

Look at 1995. Are you serious?? Completely changed the what defenses played versus today and the way the game was called. "Hearing footsteps" was a term coined before this rule and for good reason. Everyone LOVES Ronnie Lott but many of Lotts big hits would have fallen into this category. Again I will say the NFL brain trust collectively thought defenses had a clear advantage over offenses. "Flagrant (big) Hits" could get you suspended, not to mention the "Illegal Contact" rule from 2004. LT's hit on Montana if done in 1995 on would have gotten him suspended. Yeah, cheap shots happen, but it's more likely MOST defensive players will pull up because they know it's going to cost them a game check or more. Let's stop pretending things aren't drastically different. And don't believe me, read the history of the league. The game was intentionally changed significantly for both parity and "entertainment" value.

Hearing footsteps still exsists. There have been hits on qbs since that are as bad and worse. QBs even with the protection today are getting knocked out of seasons with massive hits.
But there's a big difference between it being called and not being called because it was considered a "fair play."

Sammy Baugh - Johnny Unitas - Terry Bradshaw - Joe Montana - Tom Brady
They all idolized someone before them and then took over as the greatest of their time. It's the circle of life.

See this is where I can't go with you. Joe regularly competed against HOFers to get to his SBs and the league was smaller and had MUCH better QB play. MUCH. Like not even close.
