Joe has "The Catch", while Tom has "The Tuck Rule" and "SpyGate".
...yeah, Montana has been safely secured as #1, never threatened.

To be completely honest, I've always thought Marino was/is the best QB ever. If Marino was on the Niners, he would've won multiple Superbowls as well. I don't think Montana would've won any if he was on the Dolphins.

C'mon guys, it's Joe Montana! Brady shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence unless its because he attended "The Catch" as a little kid. Brady is several tiers below the likes of Montana and will never eclipse the legacy of Cool Joe. No picks in 4 Super Bowls and Undefeated, Nuff Said.

Joe Montana VS. Tom Brady
Joe Monatana
Comp: 83
Att: 122
YDS: 1142
TD's: 11
Comp% 68.03
INT: 0
QBR: 127.8
W: 4
L: 0
Tom Brady
Comp: 164
Att: 247
YDS: 1605
TD's: 13
Comp% 66.39
INT: 4
QBR: 95.3
W: 4
L: 2
I highlighted the importance of each stat that defines a QB on the biggest stage imo, and Brady isn't as close as people act. Especially losses and QBR.

i don't know:
What favors brady: Today's nfl, it's much harder to win then it was back in the 80's and preceding decades. With constant NFL personell constantly shifting and moving, along with guys getting injured more often, it's hard to have continuous continuity for a whole year; nevertheless, a whole decade, like the Patriots have. They have been the marquee franchise since the turn of the millennium. Also, Brady didn't have a cast of hall of famers like Montana had. During the majority of his tenure, he didn't have a Rice, Lott, Charles Haley, Craig, Taylor, etc.... The only players he had on offense for a significant amount of time were Gronk and Mankins. (and gronk is often injured) And even though Brady missed the entire 2008 season, majority of the time, he has been healthy. Montana was often injured and fragile.
what favors montana: He didn't cheat; his teams won cleanly. He went to 4 superbowls, dominate two of them, and engineered a drive that was the greatest in Super Bowl history. (sorry big ben) And even though Montana didn't throw an INT in the superbowl, there was a couple of times where it should had been INT. (INEXCUSABLE dropped passes by the opposing DB)
If it wasn't for the cheating and scandals, i would had put Brady over Montana. This is why Barry Bonds will never seriously be put in the discussion of an all time great due to his "alleged" steroid use. His name will always carry an asterisks. It's sad too, because Barry did not have to resort to steriods to be an all time great; he had that natural talent, just like Brady. But the fact that the patriots were involved in AT LEAST two scandals during their super bowl run, ruins that argument for Brady and the Patriots. And keep in mind that this is only the scandals that they got caught in. They probably cheated in others years too. Let's not be naive in the fact that the Patriots cheated twice because that's the number of times they got caught! They cheated all the time since belecheat took over in 2000, but they only gotten caught twice. And for those who argue, "well they deflated balls did not make a difference with regards to the score of the colts game", I would argue, "what tactics did the patriots pull to narrowly beat the Ravens the week before?" If this was the NCAA, the pats would be forced to vacate their 2001 and 2014 championships.

Marino was a horrible post season QB. He was Peyton Manning before Peyton Manning.

It's ALWAYS an "IF"
Reality check - there is no "if's" in life.
You either did it or you didn't.

How long did each guy play? The blows to the head and upper torso allowed back then shortened careers for guys like Joe and Steve. QBs today can play longer with greater protection. I am sure you get to and win more games that way right?

I was listening to a little spot by Boomer Esiasson where he was saying Brady's punishment is fair even though Boomer considers Brady the best of all time.
Why am I not surprised? Montana broke Boomer's heart with one of the greatest comeback drives in SB history. I'm pretty sure he's still bitter about it. I know Chris Collingsworth is.

Tired of this. Anyone who thinks there is a debate is probably too young to remember Montana's greatness. Same people who want to compare Kobe or LeBron to MJ. Ridiculous. Brady played against the best D in the league THIS year and still had to rely on a pretty fortunate play from his defense to pull it off. In the '89 season, Montana went up against that year's best D in the Super Bowl. 55-10. Nuff said? No. When a player reaches the biggest game of his life and time and again turns out his best performance of the year, THAT is greatness. Had Joe slipped even a bit in '88 or '81, our team would have lost.

lol no.
100% winning percentage > 70% winning percentage
Zero interceptions > interceptions (122 passes over 4 games with 0)
127.8 is the all-time high for multi-Super Bowl QB rating (Brady isn't close here)

Or the fact he never lost one either...
Or the fact he NEVER threw a pick in the Super Bowl either. The list goes on & on.I am glad they got caught because these cocky arrogant Pat's fans had anointed him as the GOD of the NFL.
Funny that NOT 1 Patriot fan had defended their actions. All they keep saying this we will over come this #PatriotStrong. What a complete bunch of tools i love it especially after the fact that Jerry came out n said he "Used" Stickum they started to troll around any news that had to do with Jerry Rice saying he was a cheater & they are proud their team does things the right way not like the Niners did to get an advantage in Super Bowls since we had the ultimate cheater on our squad.
So take that NE fans your QB is a tainted watered down cheating SOB that will never get close to Joe Cool's legacy. END OF DISCUSSION!!!
