I wouldve died to go to that game.... but the 55 - 10 superbowl win vs the Broncos wouldve been just as good

It's the only one I've ever been lucky enough to see in person. At the time, it was a 15 minute ride to the game for my wife and me.

Thank you D. Revis
yes yes, i still have that game and watch it once in a while at my old tv and and very very old BETA MAX where the remote still had to be connected.. I try to be careful with it tho before the ribbon gets messed up..

at times, I wonder why we (today's coaches) can not create a game plan like that.. .to attack the D's weakest link (their LBs).. and I still remember the play that got Carl Monroe (RB) our 1st TD from that game..

Joe rollin to the right, Nehemiah goes deep, Clark does an intermediate, and Monroe cuts an underneat OUT pattern and catches the ball and runs it in for a TD!!!

as for the # 1 Defense, I think it was the Bears and their up and coming 46D... I know the 49ers gave up the least pts that year tho, I still remember that..

@9moon^^^

That game featured what I think is the greatest example of in-game changes to game plan I've ever seen. NFL films thought so much of it that they featured it in their NFL Films replay of that Super Bowl. It's fascinating.

Walsh saw that whenever a Niner running back would sprint out to the flat at the snap, the ILB on his side would follow him out to the flat automatically. So right on the sidelines, he drew up a new play that had both running backs, Craig and Tyler, sprint out to their respective sides at the snap of the ball. As he figured they would do, both ILB's followed the running backs leaving a huge hole in the middle. He had Russ Francis hesitate for a moment tnd then just run right to the area the ILB's had just vacated. Boom! Something like a 20 yard gain right up the middle for the Tight end.

You have a good memory... i was a boy in 80's watching the Niners.
Yes, I still have the video of that NFL film.. Master of The Game!!!

It showed those Russ Francis plays 3x, where our Guards would even pull so that the Miami's young LBs would be fool to follow them on a single screen pass..

and all the while those ILBs are sliding to their sides, the open field was for Russ Francis to cover.. a simple 8 yard pass turned into a 15 to 20 yard gain..

.. stroke of a genius!!

while today's game, our game planning is based on designed on paper or iPod and expect that great athletes would create the big play..

Russ Francis - John Frank - Ron Heller - Brent Jones; - Jamie Williams - Weslie Walls .. all TEs that played for us without being blessed by athletecism similar to Vernon but yet they make the biggest plays whenever it's needed...

well, Jamie (Spiderman) Williams was just an awesome blocker..
Francis was a beast TE and I have great memory of B. Jones... he had alot of heart but killed me to see his face in the Green Bay loses in the 90's... but finially T.O. clutch catch that S. Young delivered was sweet revenge. Im still sore that are perfect season was taken away in the Bears game from a bad refs call.

Thanks, but in real time at the game, I didn't even see what had happened on that play. It was just a first down play to Francis. I didn't realize what Walsh had done there until I saw the NFL films production of the game.
Who said it was ever in doubt?

It definitely wasn't me!
... and the icing on the cake was when Randy Cross then an OG came to the camera and said..

" They came to see an offense but the wrong one showed up!!! "

sighhhh... i feel like crying!! what memories!!!!

Mark "Super" Duper had only one catch!!! damnnnnnnnnnn!!!! Eric Wright shut him down!!!

I'd like to take the time to apologize to theDuke85 for calling him a 'Brady nut-hugger' yesterday. I thought he had called me a homer for arguing in favor of Montana over Brady, but it was another poster.

Again, I'd like to say that I really like Brady and have been a fan of his for his entire career. I know everyone says this these days, but back in real time, I really wanted them to draft the local kid and I thought they were going to until they took fricking Geo Caramazzi and I slapped my head so hard I gave myself a headache.

When the Patriots got the ball back towards the end of the last Super Bowl, I said to my wife, 'If he moves the ball down the field here and takes the lead, he absolutely deserves to be in the conversation for the best ever.' He did and he does. That's how I feel about Tom Brady. He's in the conversation as the best ever. But, the bottom line is that I've never seen someone play the position quite as well as Joe Montana.

I like your argument and it's well thought out, but Joe Montana was never suspended for cheating, and there are no asterisks next to his records.

Joe Montana had WAY MORE talent around him

If Joe didn't go to KC and do what he did your comment MIGHT carry some weight.
