It was MAGICAL.

I'd love to see Top Ten Brady, Favre, Marino, Manning games for comparison sake....

Doubt it will be as good.

To me, that's the ultimate test.

Will Brady ever have a game like '89 49ers vs. Eagles or '93 Chiefs vs. Oilers playoffs? Come from behind wins against very violent defenses on the road after getting sacked A LOT.

Those two games right there (part of that top 10) are games that embody Montana magic beyond the standard fare of SB 23 and the like.

Will Brady ever have a PLAY like the 78 yard TD to Jerry Rice to beat the Giants in the Meadowlands with 42 seconds to play in '88?

Stats have a lot associated with them, but plays and games can be compartmentalized and compared more easily.

Someone once asked a few years ago "When you think of Brady's career highlights, what image do you see? That image of him putting his hands over his head after winning his first Super Bowl."

It's crazy but Brady doesn't have those defining moments like Montana to Taylor in SB23, SB 24, etc.

And I'm sure he does, but I can't recollect it easily....and I've watched a lot of football.

Well said. I guess we will all agree to disagree. We will never truly know who is better because we don't have time machines and players all have shelf lives. I know what I saw with Montana though and he was pure magic when it counted most. He took some tough losses sure, who hasn't? With all that being said Joe is the best in my mind and everyone else is a distant second. For those of you who are on the fence if you can get your hands on that 89 Eagles Niners game watch it all the way thru. That one game is a microcosm of Joe's entire career. Knocked down and beat up he still lit the Eagles D up.

Please stop talking about the system though. It was a great system sure but Joe could have been a HOF player in a lot of systems. He's one of the biggest reasons if not the reason it became en Vogue and is still around today. The truly great players elevate the players around them and that is never more evident than in his first two SB wins and his last two years with the Chiefs. The 49ers ran the WCO and the Chiefs played Marty ball. Lol. Joe ran them both to perfection.

Paul Hackett was the OC in KC when Joe was there so They ran a WCO. Marty was smart enough to install Joe's offense. Mike McCarthy was also an assistant in KC with Paul Hackett when Joe was there. That's where he developed his WCO roots.

It's also true that both Manning or Brady can WIN you more games and put up BETTER STATS if you put all three (Joe, Peyton & Tom) on the same team, or teams that is exactly the same..

but if there's one game left that is a MUST WIN, close your eyes, clear your mind, and you see nothing but MONTANA's name that stands out and is calling for you to be the one to START..

and think about it, if you were to start Manning or Brady and fail, you will always wonder why you didnt pick JOE..

but, if you have chosen JOE, there aint no failing!!!

Yeah, but can any other qb, while marching for the winning TD in a SB, spot John Candy in the stands?
Well, not anymore..

J-Candy's resing in peace..
Tom Brady playoff records
Most wins
Most touchdowns
Most passing yards
Most completions
Most conference championships

He has as many rings as Montana. Brady is the best ever.

legacy secured as the second best QB ever.
Montana is top 5 for sure
You know for playing in a much more pass friendly league Tom's numbers don't dwarf Joe's as much as I would expect.

MONTANA
Regular season- 63.2% 211.2ypg 92.3rate
Playoffs- 62.7% 251.0ypg 95.6rate

BRADY
Regular season- 63.6% 257.9ypg 96.4rate
Playoffs- 62.4% 256.7ypg 88.0rate

Joe's the better playoff QB and Tom has him by about 45 ypg in regular season games. Personally having seen both play, I think Joe is better. However, if some prefer Tom I really can't argue too much.

Just one game but you have to give the devil his due against Seattle. Down 10 points in the 4th playing against one of the best teams of all time and he wins it for them.
I'll take Dan Marino over all of them. Tragic he never won a ring so he gets dismissed

you will have to take that up with the 84 niners who i consider to be the best team of our championship era.
Can you imagine a game between the 1984 vs the 1989 team (the one that beat Denver)..
