Should we add *s to our wins with Jerry Rice?

You think Walsh or our own coaches didn't look to get an extra edge? Get real man.

Not to mention only 49er fans would try to pretend that getting to the SB and losing it is worse than not getting to the SB at all.
Some fans are just incredibly biased it can be worse than politics. Wasn't Bobb McKittrick the master of teaching the leg whip and how to get away with it?
Google "49ers leg whip" it gets lots of hits and a lot of the articles are dated in Montana's era.

Quote from Joe....

"You know, everybody does everything they can to possibly get a little bit of an edge. I mean, back then it wasn't illegal but it was illegal, like our guys used to spray — and everybody did it at the time — silicone on their jerseys, the linemen, so that the defensive linemen couldn't get a hold of them. And the defensive linemen did it so the offensive linemen couldn't hold them," Montana said. "It's a game. Everybody wants to win, so you do whatever you can to make it happen."

Between salary cap cheating (Policy and Clark paid 600K in fines for that), Jerrys stick em. and the guys spraying silicone on their jerseys, the Niners certainly werent completely innocent. Nor, would I expect, any team was. As Joe said, if you arent cheating you arent trying. But I dont think any less of ANY of Joes accomplishments or the teams because of these. I also dont think any less of Brady because of Spygate or Deflategate to be honest.

How many games was Montana suspended? How many draft pick were we docked?

I would love to see Brady play in the 80s and 90s with "those" rules. Dude doesn't even like to get touched lol

Quit acting like a Niners homer and just give credit to the 2 greatest ever. Its not hard to do. Brady has taken plenty of hits in his career and has been amazingly durable. You make it sound like it was impossible for a QB to not get hurt in the 80s and 90s; Go look at Marino's. Elway's and Favre's stats and you will see that these great QBs were able to do that.

Would Brady have been able to play virtually every game like the 3 above or get knocked out of several games like Joe? No way to know that is there?

For some reason whenever stickum is mentioned I picture Lester Hayes of the Raiders, the pictures are worth Googling, he would cover himself in the stuff. He could probably catch a ball without using his hands.

Yep. Lester was the poster boy for stickum.

Brady was suspended for a ridiculous reason with no proof in place.

Remember the draft pick we lost for tampering with Lance Briggs who we didn't even sign? Notice how when Jets signed Revis after tampering with him all they got was a fine from Goodell?

The guy picks and chooses who he punishes. Don't compare deflategate with the stuff we pulled which is way worse.

And Brady would be fine with those rules. He gets rid of the ball very quickly and has taken many a beating vs bigger, stronger and faster players than Joe faced.

And stop being ridiculous which QB enjoyed being touched?

You sound absolutely ridiculous trying to discredit the guy at this point.
Tommy Brady bout to be the GOAT

No. Its all about WINNING the SB. That's it. Just getting there doesn't count. I don't think any niner fan feels good about just getting to our 6th. I would've rather lost in the playoffs.

Montana is perfect. And won without any question marks. The only way Brady passes Montana is to WIN a 5th SB. I don't care if he plays and loses in the next 10 SB, if he doesn't get that 5th ring, Montana is still the GOAT.

That's the dumbest thing ever. Was Montana perfect when he didn't even make it to the SB?

Straws, you're grasping at them.

Getting to 7 SBs in the salary cap era is a ridiculous accomplishment.

I'm a results guy. Did you win? No? Okay moving on. No second place trophies in football.

Getting to 7 SB in the salary cap era has a lot more to do with Belichick than Brady. That's a whole different discussion.

SO based on your logic Lynn Swann is easily the GOAT over Jerry Rice at WR since he won 4 rings and Jerry only won 3. Or.. does this only apply to quarterbacks?

How many SBs did Belichick get to without Brady?

And second place trophies aren't your thing but apparently 3rd/4th/5th..so on trophies are better than 2nd place?

Makes sense...

Brady was two miracle catches away from being 6-0 entering the game Sunday.

Getting there gave him and the Pats a much better chance to win than Montana did for us when he didn't make the SB.

Preferring to not make the SB over going there and losing is the epitome of second place trophy mentality.

And what about Jim Kelly? Three in a row, only to lose heartbreakers... Montana is the GOAT until further notice.

Four in a row for Kelly and they got smoked 3 of the 4 losses. Not that I quite understand why he got brought up.
