What Is Going On?

Especially when the cowgirls were always in the way and there they were again? Did you think #21 was going to get to Drew Pearson? Did you think Dr. Death would get to crybaby Danny and make him give up the ball? HELL NO!!! YOU DIDN'T THINK ANY OF THIS AND, YOU DAMN SURE DIDN'T KNOW ANY OF THIS!!! SO, SHUT YOUR PIEHOLE, SUPPORT YOUR TEAM, OR GET THE F-O-O-D!!!!!!!

Hell yes!!!

Patrick Willis, Anthony Davis, Chris Borland, and Justin Smith have all talked about why they decided to retire.

Each of them explained that they retired, predominately if not entirely, because of health concerns----an option not given on the poll

The options given in the poll seems to stress the possible failing of the front office.

Just to be contrary, I would add another---a sixth option.

Harbaugh was a vampire of sorts; he just sucked the football life out of the players

.

Not the first option.

????

Not sure what you mean.

So, are you saying that players retiring because of injuries and health concerns falls into the "Nothing, Just bad luck " option.

Or

Are you saying that Willis, Smith, Borland, and Davis just had bad luck when Harbaugh the Vampire decided to feast on them.

The poll options are a joke---a bad joke.

What is truly amazing is the Niners have lost SO much talent in this off season, and they still have a good starter at pretty much every position.

The Hawks and Cards being in our division makes it very daunting, but if the Niners were in a few of the other divisions they would still look like the team to beat, or at least contend for the division win.

I still hold out hope for 10 wins

I am saying that you are wrong. The first option does not suggest front office malfeasance and would be the one you select if you feel that the players are all coincidentally retiring due to legitimate health concerns.

Do you understand that?

The way we've played ball since 2011 our style the way we've practiced and the very long playoff runs have taken their toll and shortened a few careers it seems would be a fair assessment here. Hogwash on the idea that guys quit because Jim left town. Just hogwash else we never would have signed Torrey and Dockett

Hmmm. Maybe. Many teams in the last 40 years have practiced hard, had long playoff runs, and employed a run dominated offense. Some of these teams even played a 16 game schedule. I dont recall so many high profile retirements being announced in one offseason.

Not really. I never said, or meant to imply, that the first option indicated front office malfeasance.

At least, three of your options do indicated that players are leaving because of the front office and/or the coaching staff.

The poll is a joke. I will listen to what those retiring players have had to say.

But, continue with the negativity, because we know that the players or ex-players can not be trusted.

I hope you're not a fireman.
no need to send the trucks it's just smoke.

sometimes it is just smoke, but you have to investigate. I suppose you consider that negativity.

And all the witnesses, and the witnesses that do know something about what was happening, just told you that it is only smoke.

But, look I think the poll you created was, and remains, a effing joke.

I guess I have a negative side also.

Dang,

That is more than a little rude.

I think the poll is a joke, but there is no good reason not to be civil.

I think most know what's going on but refuse to accept it because they want to be a "faithful".

The offseason is always full of kool aide because these homer beat writers like Maiocco and Barrows refuse to write about the bad (because they want to make sure they're all good with Jed) and of course NT eats up all the positive hype and the "good things' that coaches and players say when interviewed. IT HAPPENS EVERY YEAR (to even the bottom dweller teams) the teams marketing department creates the hype, and fans gobble gobble!!

Honestly, the retirements have felt reminiscent of watching and following college. Players bodies give out, and sometimes they give out at the same time. I've seen some good players never make it to the nfl for this reason. The 49ers played harder than most teams and it shows in the close victories.... And the 49ers had a lot of those including a tie. This team was ridden hard; now the effects are setting in. I expect the Seahawks to go through something similar in the near future if they're not proactively turning over their roster with year too early trades.

Agreed, fact is, both Davis and Iupati were average to below average pass blockers. Which may be why Boone has been pissed about his pay.
Im thinking the niners have bad doctors for the team. They dont have the best interest of the team in mind but instead are telling players that all this hitting is f**king them up (which it probably is). Niners need some doctors like in the movies Any give sunday or Friday Night Lights.

Also even players from other teams are taking notice so yeah its not league wide thing.

Something's up, anyway, because coincidence can't cover all of it. Or, in the immortal words of Tampa's Gerald McCoy: Gerald McCoy @Geraldini93

"Investigation has to be coming for 49ers!! No way that many people from the same team retire coincidentally. What is going on in San Fran?"

I think this is all getting blown WAY out of proportion. Weve only had 1 player actually retire prematurely.

Patrick Willis was on two bad feet, and he didnt want to risk his longterm ability to walk on a few more years at 50% of his old capacity. He gave us a fantastic 8 year career. I wish he couldve stayed healthier, but thats how it goes sometimes. If it was an issue with the team, he wouldve requested a trade.

Justin Smith was coming off 14 HARD fought years in the trenches. His body probably took more of a beating than anyone. He had shards of bone cutting into his shoulder. He probably shouldve retired 2 years ago. The fact that it came during this offseason was coincidence.

Anthony Davis is taking a season off to let his brain heal from the injury he sustained last year. Hes so young that he probably figured he could afford to lose a season. It appears as a retirement, but he followed his announcement up by saying he would remain on the roster, and be back. He is still signed through 2020.

That leaves Chris Borland as the only guy who just up and quit on the team entirely. In that case it was just a guy who made a mistake by going into the NFL without really understanding the risks. Unfortunately for us, he realized these things after he started playing.

This weird narrative that the 49ers are all jumping ship makes no sense.

Were just seeing a changing of the guard all at once. New coaching staff, and older players moving on. Call the 49ers what you want, but they have been VERY responsible with money and the cap. They dont negotiate with free agents. They set a value price, and if someone outbids them, they let the player walk. Its a great way to stay out of "Salary Cap Hell", which we all remember.

As far as Tomsula goes, things dont add up with the people trying to say hes a joke of a hire, and the players are all leaving because of it. Every person in the business has had nothing but great things to say about Tomsula, and how loved he is by everyone hes in contact with. Jarryd Hayne picked the 49ers over the Seahawks and Lions directly because of him. Darnell Dockett chose to sign here. Torrey Smith chose to sign here on day 1, not even visiting anywhere else. Reggie Bush chose to sign here. If there was real issues in SF, there would be a buzz around the league, and players wouldnt be interested.

The build up of the Harbaugh fallout has the media on alert. Theyre looking for any and every reason to write a "possible problem with the 49ers" article.

I think it came down to this...Harbaugh was too stubborn, and too aloof to sit down with the front office and talk things out. He wanted to do everything his way, and be left alone. The problem is, when you dont fix your glaring problems after 4 years, thats going to get old. He never fixed the red zone offense, he never fix the challenge calls, he never fixed the playclock issues, etc. I think it came to a point where they gave him an ultimatum, to fire Roman and let the FO start calling some of the shots, and he told them to kick rocks. So, they fired the whole staff and hired the guy they already had in their back pocket as someone they saw as a legit franchise HC.

Justin Smith even said he didnt think, he "knew" that in 10 years Tomsula would still be a HC in the league, and that everyone on the team all knew that Tomsula would end up a HC, and it was a no-brainer.
