I like you cc but gotta speak my mind here

studies show that a week in football is basically like getting in a head to head car crash going 40mph every week. They do this 16 times a year including practice. For people to say these guys are pussies for not wanting to be a vegetable at age 45 is pretti messed up I say.

I'll tell you what... I dare you to run full speed and slam your head into a wall once a week 16 times a year. If these guys are pussies, then this should be pretty simple right? If you say no to my dare I would like to know your reasoning. Obviously you would not be getting paid, but again if these guys are pussies this is not a big deal right?

Getting your head slammed over and over against world class athletes is not safe. The more research comes out, the more we realize how traumatic it really is. The more we see guys like Seau taking their lives, the more people are going to realize that the money is not worth it. To call these people pussies is pretty messed up. Head injuries are no laughing matter.

I think Baalke should be asking prospective draftees about their attitudes concerning the health risks of the game. Football is a violent sport. It will continue to be a violent sport. The best teams will play with passion and violence. Are you (the draft prospect) prepare to endure the physical punishment inherent in playing professional football?

No matter how talented a prospect may be, if Baalke is not convinced that he will stick it out, if he is not convinced that he will endure the physical punishment, then he should let another team draft the player, even if the player is the BPA.

And you are the person to decide when a player should retire?

Just saying they don't usually retire in their prime and not 3 of them from the same team. THE SAME TEAM

No. That is not all that you said. You said that the players retired before they should have.

Damn. I even quoted that part of your post, but go ahead and pretend you did not actually say that.

Not sure about the need to do this. Baalke has had, I am pretty sure, one player (Borland)that walked away from the game because of "potential" damage to the body.

Justin Smith, Patrick Willis, and Anthony Davis retired because of actual damage, not just potential damage.

I guess it could not hurt, but I have not seen many 49er players just walk away without cause.

Omg you totally showed me. I said players shouldn't have retired that still have good football left in them. You totally showed me how can I go on ?

Ah, you do get it.

Good for you.

Shouldn't this be happening to other teams as well?

Of course. You should complain to the Department of Luck Equalization, who is supposed to guarantee that good things and bad things are spread around every team equally.

After all, what are we paying our taxes for?

ya sus, this is happening all around the league, not just to the niners.

Maybe I have not followed enough, but where else in the league is there a mass exodus like Niners? It has to be more than bad luck.

Glad I made the trip out to see new stadium last year. This season really going to hurt watching.
I think it's a couple of things:

1. Now that Harbaugh is gone, this team has no real identity. I like Baalke and I'm less pleased with Jed York, but neither convey "I am your leader and I'll take you to the promise land" type qualities.

2. All the players love Tomsula but come on, let's be honest. JT will be nothing more than a 2-3 year stopgap. I'd feel much more confident with the Gase/Fangio pairing than Tomsula and staff. So it's evident that Baalke/York had no contingency plan in place once Harbaugh left.

3. I do think the entire team is suffering from the "Harbaugh Hangover." You can only squeeze a sponge so much and Harbaugh got his pound of flesh from the players. Still think they are emotionally spent and it will take awhile for them to start enjoying football again.

But maybe there is a silver lining in all of this. No doubt we are in complete rebuild mode. It's time to sit back and watch some of the young bucks play. Time to dial back the intensity a couple of clicks and let these kids enjoy playing. One day at a time and we'll get there! Gotta stay optimistic.

One last thought tho. York needs to hire an experienced Carmen Policy type and get our identity back somehow.

We lead the league in retirement announcements. Why?

Speculation from Gerald McCoy:

Investigation has to be coming for 49ers!! No way that many people from the same team retire coincidentally. What is going on in San Fran?

What the heck is going on with us?

I knew it since P. Willis retired... that man loves football and personially I got bashed when I said it was bc Fangio left. All the tweets and articles are light covered. Players are trained not no bash the team that paid them to play... its a profession. Jim H. Leaving was a pebble on a huge rock slide.

Guess whos to blame, not going to use names, and I dont want to be labeled an Unfaithfull, but im not happy with what happened this off season. But one thing is true since I was a boy watching Montana I will always be a Niner fan... good or for worse

I get the impression that the ones that are quitting just didn't have the heart for it anyway. Maybe we could draft a guy or two who actually love playing football? It always seemed to me that Davis, like Crabtree wasn't all that motivated to play. Playing hurt is part of the game and they never seemed to have the stomach for it. It seems that there are two types of players in the NFL. Those that love the game and those that don't. Those that don't play for the money which leaves them boo-boo prone and lazy.
