In the case of the DL and OL it's a case of too many snaps for too many seasons (under Harbaugh, mostly) and it's taking its physical toll. It's one of my major criticisms of JH...he refused to give many younger players a real shot...he left vets on the field when they clearly needed some relief. Same's true of Willis...they rode that horse 'til he couldn't play like he wanted to. Borland's the odd case, given he only played one season.
Trading Andy Lee makes sense...his numbers have consistently been on a downward trend since 2011. Pinion's young, strong, has a huge leg and a much smaller hit against the cap. Baalke got something for Lee while he could. There could be others...we'll have to see.
So, in my eyes, what's happening with the Niners is symptomatic of vets being literally run into the ground. It's Baalke sticking to his guns and not overpaying for FA's. I applaud him for that. Yes, there's been a lot of turnover...but in almost every case, Baalke's adept drafting and key FA signings have given Tomsula quality depth with which to fill holes. As Dockett's saying, despite the changes, the Niners will still win. I believe him.

No.
No harbaugh didn't push them nearly as hard as Singletary and the only one that quit on sing was lol Glen coffee. Even with all his faults harbaugh was a great and proven winning coach, we lost 3 games last year by a c**t hair, should have been 11-5 and our front office fired him, because they were tired of him personally. Bill belichick is a piece of s**t and I'd bet kraft hates him, but kraft just wants to own a great franchise our fo wants a yes man. Jed and baalke are the bad guys not Harbs.
Agreed..They undermined him to get rid of him..we all know about the trade rumors to Cleveland, leaks to the press that made him look bad..It all starts at the top and that's where the ultimate responsibility lies here. Harbaugh was just too good to get rid of. A really competent owner would have sat Baalke and JH down and told them they had to work out their differences for the good of the franchise. Both are very good at what they do and it was a total loss not to find a way to get things worked out between them instead of choosing one and then undermining and getting rid of the other. The players aren't dumb. They are on the inside. They saw the whole thing unfold. They knew they had a coach who could take them to a championship. When he left and it became clear that the real problem was at the top I'm sure it had a major influence on many who have left. When you don't believe in the guys at the very top it's very hard to get one's heart, soul and passion behind things.

First one to use the appropriate term here, "karma". This is the psychic blowback from how they handled the whole Harbaugh affair. The whole league and everyone in it knows these guys are arrogant, ignorant and no people you want to have your back.

If the 49ers were a company with stock traded on the NYSE, all the analysts would be saying,"WTFs going on with this management team?" If a company had a sudden talent drain, with this type of mass exodus, they'd have major concerns. They'd be all over the them asking for explanations & strongly considering downgrading the outlook on their stock. That's what reasonable & logical people do.There is a very serious lack of confidence in this FO with the players, fans, analysts, journalists and it's throwing up more red flags every day.
But for some reason this forum has a disproportionate number of fanboy sycophants that in now way represent the majority of the 49er fans.
A very intelligent and clear analysis. This can't be all "bad luck". There's almost certainly something wrong going on at the depths of the organization. One has to look no further than York and Baalke.

Patrick Willis, Anthony Davis, Chris Borland, and Justin Smith have all talked about why they decided to retire.
Each of them explained that they retired, predominately if not entirely, because of health concerns----an option not given on the poll
The options given in the poll seems to stress the possible failing of the front office.
Just to be contrary, I would add another---a sixth option.
Harbaugh was a vampire of sorts; he just sucked the football life out of the players

Despite all the change for #49ers, I can tell u that in the building, they are much more optimistic. Maybe THE most fascinating team for'15.

lol agreed. If nothing else, we are fascinating. So much change in the building, its crazy.
I believe in a lot of the talent left on the roster tho. If we put together a winning season, we'll be a Cinderella story like the 2011 team.
At this rate, even bigger cinderella team in the league's eyes than 2011, even though in my mind we are arguably better than that team.
Two things that make pre-2015 slightly better than pre-2011:
a) A legit winning culture that the players have experienced AND EXPECT
b) QB
That's the biggest difference. It sucks that our LB dominance has dropped a bit, but it's not huge and the only team that won an SB with a sick LB corps were the Parcells '86 and '90 Giants.
If we won a bunch of games this year, it will shock some people but come on this team was only 18 months removed from its last NFC Champ game and still less than a year since we went into Dallas and crushed them.
Pisses me off that teams like Baltimore, Pittsburgh, get all the passes in the world. Pittsburgh was garbage '12, '13 and nobody said a damn word about them. Baltimore's first game after winning the Super Bowl was an embarrassing loss giving up 7 TDs to Peyton Manning.
There's clearly a strong bias against the 49ers. Even fairweather fans are buying into it, so no shock the rest of the league is.

Nobody has ever quit or retired at your places of work? Lol... You've never had a person in upper management get fired for failure to follow upper management procedures? I call bull s**t.Originally posted by barrymartin:Originally posted by REB4:Originally posted by BodhiPaddlesOut:It's just random. Everyone needs to quit freaking out.

Every single job I have ever worked has had turnover and management change and have been successful, if not more successful. It's common sense that people retire. It's common sense people quit jobs for many reasons. For you guys to act like these things don't happen outside of the 49ers, is not intelligent in the least, but rather naive. No company has ever lost 4 employees and a boss ever and maintained success? Wow intelligent.
You want to talk about NYSE, who the hell would invest in one of the worst offenses in the NFL? You think there wouldn't be "analyst" burning the front office at the stake for keeping Greg Roman? That point is very moot. People invest when the stock is low as in right now, not when they are/were plummeting and going nowhere like Roman was. If I were an investor no way I'd put my stock on Roman, and if I already had stock and if management did nothing to fix the issue I would then question my stock.

You bring up some good points.
It raises some eyebrows certainly, although honestly last year was the time to raise them much more so than now. Not extending Harbaugh talks started pre 2014 season!
If Willis and Smith were on the verge of retiring sometime the last year or two but didn't because of our success and allowed this perceived lack of dominance influence their decisions to do it, I'm ok with that. I'd probably be more upset with it if it happened AFTER a year with Tomsula, instead of before (assuming there wasn't a deterioration in health).
Borland you honestly cannot put in that category......I mean, J*** C*** the kid was a rookie on a strong defense and had a sick season.....he obviously was a starter after the Willis retirement and Wilhoite trade rumors....so what the hell could his excuse be except a paranoia over health?! I mean the embarrassment of having your last NFL snap be being shoved by Russell f'n Wilson shouldn't last a lifetime, no?
Anthony Davis had his concussion issues, and perhaps the Borland influence was significant.
Andy Lee was a trade by FO, and it's not like we never saw it coming after the draft. Purely has to be salary cap because there have been many older punters on NFL teams who have performed less than Lee at their respective ages.
I will say to you that UNLIKE our never ending QB debates for #11 and #7, THIS WILL BE ANSWERED THIS YEAR!!!!!!!!!
Hahahaha.

Especially when the cowgirls were always in the way and there they were again? Did you think #21 was going to get to Drew Pearson? Did you think Dr. Death would get to crybaby Danny and make him give up the ball? HELL NO!!! YOU DIDN'T THINK ANY OF THIS AND, YOU DAMN SURE DIDN'T KNOW ANY OF THIS!!! SO, SHUT YOUR PIEHOLE, SUPPORT YOUR TEAM, OR GET THE F-O-O-D!!!!!!!
