#49ers who will not play: Bruce Ellington, Jimmie Ward, Philip Wheeler, Glenn Dorsey. Presumably, NaVorro Bowman will make his debut.

Heeeeee's back

Per Matt Maiocco there are scouts attending the game from the Raiders (incl. GM), Chargers, Texans, Cardinals, Vikings, Packers, Giants, Steelers, Ravens & Bills. MM has the best info.

Who cares its preseason as long as we come out healthy out of this game that should be the only thing that matters.

I have a feeling the exact opposite happens. Watch Thompson throw like 3 TD's and everyone starts saying he's the next Brady or some s**t.
BIG BOW!!!!!!! Our D will be different with just his presence!!

The starters will get one or two series and that's it. So don't tune in late, unless you want to see a bunch of backups.

Both the offense and defense will look very vanilla. No reason to give anything away.

The only time I ever saw a 49er team unveil anything innovative in preseason was Bill Walsh' first or second season. As I recall, we were getting ANNIHILATED by the SeaHaggots. It was something like 38-0. We were down at the goal line -- heading in for a meaningless score -- when Walsh unveiled a tight end reverse. Caught everyone off guard. Nobody had seen anything like it before.

Of course we scored. And then went on to lose either 14 or ten games that season. Walsh' first year resulted in a 2-14 finish. The next year we won our first three games but then lost the next nine, before another mini three -game winning streak on our way to a 6-10 finish.

The next year we started 1-2 and people were beginning to suggest that Bill Walsh just didn't have what it took to be a real NFL head coach. And then, the light snapped on, and we won 12 out of the next 13 games.

Everyone remembers the statement win over the Cowboys (45-14). But a lot of those games were 9-3 or 10-9 victories.

When Bill was hired as HC we bought season tickets. 10 games for $120. I remember that 13= 3 season so well. My girlfriend was a raider fan, and I was on the couch hung over watching the Niners when she came down the stairs and asked how the game was going. The Niners hadn't won a thing at that point in time and I said just another boring Niner win. Little did I know that I was watching the first super bowl run of many...
grass looks like it's coming up still

LULZ
I can't lie, feeling a bit emotional seeing the videos of Bowman warming up.
The main thing I want for tonight is what I've been seeing around the league. Kaep and the first team offense to play at least the first half or all of the first quarter and half the second. This offense is not good enough to get no time on the field in preseason then turn it in during the season. Don't care about flavor of our offense, just wanna see more product in front the ones.
