Jarryd Hayne - the Reincarnation of Hugh McElhenny

A 49er Moment: My favorite 49er as a kid was Hugh McElhenny, our greatest open field runner ever, a great punt returner who always made the first man miss, plus he set the standards for yards after the catch with a screen pass. Hayne runs a lot like Mac, shake and bake yet straight ahead. How good was Mac? He's in the Hall of Fame. Hayne's running style is very similar and very unique, and he goes at 220!

For those who'd like to compare Hayne's running style with McElhenny, check out this video at 1:10 and 1:25-1:50. Mac wore #39. The whole video is only 7 minutes and is a pictorial history of the 49ers...Your opinions are welcome.

my opinion is we already have a thread for hayne
This is a comparison of McElhenny and Hayne. Most current Niner fans have never seen McElhenny run and probably a bunch never heard of him. This is not just about Hayne and would get lost in that thread.

What's your opinion on their comparative running styles?

i also did not mean to be disrespectful to the original poster. as posters know(even though it makes buck crazy ).. i love when posters go old school and talk about our history. i like the kid and have high hopes for him and if his style, as you say,, is like a niner legend,, that is just gravy!! carry on 49, you are a good citizen and good poster
Premature fanjaculation.

Can we wait until the guy takes one freakin snap before we compare him to an all time hall of fame 49er.

That's not a lot to ask right? one snap.

It's not hard to get offended by this thread. If was a relative of Hugh McElhenny I would be.
new thread worthy?

I would say not

What? He's done that in preseason, OTAs, practice. I don't think he would've made the team if he hasn't had any snaps yet.
Im sure Hugh McElhenny was a great player but he didn't create the world in 6 days like Outback Jesus did

No need to play against first stringers I guess

Played against the 1st string Cowboys special team players and destroyed them
kezarvet49, you're obviously a true fan. Loved your video, and I do see some similarities in their running styles. That's about as far as i'm willing to go though, since Hugh's in the HOF and Hayne is just learning the game (hey, that's the beginning of a song, I think. LOL). Thanks for the post (and I'm glad it didn't get lumped in with the other thread, for what it's worth).

Geez, lay off the guy, for Jeep Chryst's sake! All he was doing was comparing running styles, not careers. Why are there always "fans" on this site who just can't resist piling on someone for a post or thread they find unworthy, or, who think they should be doing the moderators' job? You don't like it, keep the negativity to yourself and move on to another thread where you can at least be civil ( not counting the obvious trolls, or those who are offensive to begin with, of course).

I was well aware of that. This was about Hugh McElhenny and how much Hayne's running style resembles his style. No claims about greatness yet. Let's watch...he has apparently moved above Mike Davis to #3 RB so he's impressing somebody...
