Notice the wide open Niner on the other side near the 10 yd line.

This is still the first drive of the game. Another three level, High-Low read. This is a zone busting concept, but the yellow Corner route can win versus man coverage.
Versus Cover1

Rb in the flat, 4th read I guess, is open. Pass rush coming from LDE though, appears to hurry decision.

I suspect we start targeting those this week?

Great work guys.

Hindsight 20/20 but that's a TD if Kap steps up to his right and takes off with the RB as his lead block on the one defender in coverage but I too think the LDE rushed his decision. Overall I think he played well and the things he worked on this offseason were certainly on display at times

If that is Tom Brady he would know within 1.5 sec that play wasn't going to work to the left and know he's got the dump off to the right.

It's the difference between the Best QB in the game and a QB who's still learning.

Kap is forcing this play and not taking what the D gives him.

THL, that play reminds me of something from a Broncos Super Bowl win in the 90s and I've always wanted to see Kap pull off. May have to YouTube the play, but that stretch fake one way and throw back the other is a play that Elway completed to a WR for a long TD in the Super Bowl against the Falcons. The WR name escapes me. With the new zone stretches and Torrey, I'm hoping we can see them hit a few of those.

Was it Rod Smith? You're right though, that super deep cross off of a stretch fake was a big part is Shanny's Denver offense.

That's him. I knew Rod, but was thinking Streeter for some reason. That play completely fooled the Falcons and Elway let it fly. Other than Steve's first TD to Rice in 29, I can't think of another pass play that was excuted some beautifully.

To me it looks like the defender leaves him after the throw was made. I think if kap holds on to the ball that outlet is not as wide open as it appears after the defender starts to move action side.

Kap had no chance of hitting that. He's the 4th read a best with a clean pocket or if he could step up. The defensive line would have gotten to him on that one. No one was open and the only way we get something these is if he guns it into VD's numbers and that's a push.

Carlos Hyde is a beast,im just worried what can the 49ers offense do when Hyde has one of those games where he gets shut down similar to how AP got 31 yards last night, its surely not possible to get 100+ yards every game unless he's the greatest ever or he's actually Batman,i assume every RB will have the odd game where the defense shuts them down,im sure even Frank Gore had some 30 yard games, there only human after all.

The only reason this will happen is when a defense sells out to stop the run, then the deeper passes will be available. You take what the defense gives you. When your RB runs for over a buck fifty, the QB doesn't have to worry about slinging the rock. The QBs that rack up big passing yards usually don't have very impressive running games.

This isn't Madden. You take what the defense gives you.

To me this looks like a sail concepts. As you mentioned that usually a high-low read.

This is from the 1985 Bill Walsh playbook. Of course the formations doesn't match, but the concepts appears to be the same. It has the sail route (TE/Y route in the diagram) as the primary. I just think kap likes his chances against the single defender with VD.

Does anyone else see that left outside LB starring right at Kaep and the "open" 4th read receiver? You know, the guy may look wide open but that is also a down hill shot and potential pick 6 if that LB times it right. He was right over the top. This isn't college, that gap WILL close faster than people think. That LB had the angel.
Quick observation. No matter what, some of you guys will find a way to criticize Kap on every play. "Brady would know in 1.5 seconds that it's not open to the left and hit the RB to the right." "If he takes off to the right and let the RB be the lead blocker it's a TD." For heavens sake, Kap can't win on the webzone. We're about 4 or 5 plays into this thread and folks are harking on "what ifs" already. Some of you guys will find a way to take the joy out of johnnydel's and thl408's hard work.

Yeah, that outlet doesn't open up until the ball is already thrown.

Thank you Geeked. I was thinking the same thing. He's not open. The LB moves after the ball is thrown. I don't think posters truly understand how quickly windows close in the NFL. Best case for for Kap to have a nice clean pocket to step up in and make the LB commit to him or the RB in the flat, but that did not happen so it's not an option. Debbie Downers man.

Don't feel bad or get too frustrated. Bringing up Brady comparatives does to the "football analyst" what the Hitler comparison does to a debate. Basically, the absurd point nullifies any further serious discussion with the offending party.

Man it's frustrating.

Good players will look at tape like this and learn from it. Do you think Tom Brady was born great?

I'm not dogging on Kap he made some great plays. I also see him do so dumb things.
