Quick observation. No matter what, some of you guys will find a way to criticize Kap on every play. "Brady would know in 1.5 seconds that it's not open to the left and hit the RB to the right." "If he takes off to the right and let the RB be the lead blocker it's a TD." For heavens sake, Kap can't win on the webzone. We're about 4 or 5 plays into this thread and folks are harking on "what ifs" already. Some of you guys will find a way to take the joy out of johnnydel's and thl408's hard work.
Don't feel bad or get too frustrated. Bringing up Brady comparatives does to the "football analyst" what the Hitler comparison does to a debate. Basically, the absurd point nullifies any further serious discussion with the offending party.

Man it's frustrating.

geez sorry yeah Kap is great and doesn't need to work on any part of his game.

lol I hope Kap doesn't see what I wrote and go off to cry in the corner.

Good players will look at tape like this and learn from it. Do you think Tom Brady was born great?

I'm not dogging on Kap he made some great plays. I also see him do so dumb things.

Tom Brady was at The Catch, does that count?

I've seen great QBs miss open receivers, I don't understand why Kap is so hated even with Niner fans. I really enjoy watching him play

You know, the guy may look wide open but that is also a down hill shot and potential pick 6 if that LB times it right. He was right over the top. This isn't college, that gap WILL close faster than people think. That LB had the angel.

Yeah, that outlet doesn't open up until the ball is already thrown.

^ All of this ^ But I do agree with what someone said, that if Kap had pulled it down and decided to run to that side it had the potential to be big.

Maybe. I think the fact his favorite team didn't draft him had a greater effect on him wanting to be great to prove everyone wrong.

He will prob win SB50 in Santa Clara and ride off the field on a white horse.

People sure like throwing the word hate around. How many people have said they hate Kap?

No one has heard of constructive criticism? If everyone is as great as they could be why even practice to try and get better?

Have you told Brady how you feel? You never know, his marriage may be on the rocks. You will never know if you don't try.
great game , I was impressed with our boys , played with passion and our RB , wow what can I say !!! we need one or two deep throws I know it did not work on Monday but More practice and getting used to each other I think 82 & 85 should give other teams nightmares with 28 ! good game plan OC . I was more worried on the offense than the D.

Kap showed he is getting better and the OL and the OC with the game plan helped him out .

this week we need attach Steelers with our TE down the Middle and New England ran on them so 28 needs to sharpen his teeth he is going to have a bigger day than Monday night if that is possible .

I've heard it plenty of times, maybe not on this board, but there are fans that don't like him

oh ok. sounded like you assumed we hated him just because we pointed out something he could have done different to help the team.

Nice write up. Looking forward to this thread every week.

Terrific write-up and can't wait for you (JD) and thl408 to break this down!

As to execution, I agree...but paramount to execution, we've had huge changes in both offensive and defensive philosophies from last year and it showed in the formations. The 'identity' of the team remains the same as does the formula for winning: top 5 defense, excellent ST's, controlling the TOP, winning the TO battle and all coupled with a strong, smart, conservative yet, efficient passing game (with a few splash plays thrown in there).

These changes in philosophy and scheme made the execution soooo much easier esp. for CK.

Philosophy/Scheme Changes:
Defense: Still use pattern-match coverages building off Mangini's experiences in NE but also Fangio's success here. In addition, Mangini is huge on personnel matchups...best DB's to match the oppositions strengths (hence Acker starting, using 4-saftey looks, Johnson coming into the games, Brock sliding over into the slot at times, etc.). In addition, there is now a monster shift in pre and post-snap confusion on both disguising the blitzer(s) and coverages. Bowman was quoted as noting the biggest difference between Fangio and Mangini is that we now dictate the offense vs. reacting to them trying to dictate us. 180-degree philosophical change in mentality and scheme.
Offense: Huge focus on first down production. FINALLY. I can't stress that enough...and I have...for over 5 years now in NT! QB-friendly schemes. WCO is back, clearly. There was a nice piece written yesterday about how every time CK comes off the field, Logan and a hoard of others (including the OL) are reviewing film and making adjustments and communicating with each other (that didn't happen under HaRoman as Harbaugh controlled the huddle). CK is also, for the first time ever, now given full autonomy in the huddle and up at the LOS to audible. The other changes have resulted in working hard to correct the grocery-long list of issues we had under HaRoman. Another huge shift is the move to the ZBS and getting rid of the power OL for smaller, smarter and more athletic OL.
Special Teams: Make teams start at the 20 every time. With Pinion's leg and hang time, McCray and Ward are ready to force one fair catch after another or risk being decapitated if you are the returner. The return game is now looked upon as a weapon vs. the conservative fair catch with nobody within 15 yards of the returner.
Coaching: The "team" is now central as is the "family" theme. Bethea's quote yesterday pretty much summed it up for every player. Big shift here!

While execution (or non-execution) is typically the end-result, we shouldn't ignore the HUGE philosophical/scheme changes that are now putting our players in the best places to succeed.

With that...bring on the end results!

It's the difference between the Best QB in the game and a QB who's still learning.

Kap is forcing this play and not taking what the D gives him.

You have the luxury of looking at a GIF after the fact. DBs and LBs react to a QB's eyes. Just because the RB sneaks out the backside wide open doesn't mean he would be if Kap swung his head around. There was also pressure. QBs don't have the luxury of looking at an All 22 camera during the game.

Kap made the right decision and threw that ball away. They lived to play another down.

Apparently, if it's Brady throwing, his magical charm would have prevented this. A power he developed because the 49ers didn't draft him in the sixth round, preventing the Genus of Carrol from stealing him in the 7th in a magnificent draft move of just staying pat and saying: f**k it, we have Bloodsoe and the rest of the roster is full.

that's part of my point. Kap stares down his receivers from time to time. He looked left the entire time. My point is when he sees the DB turn his hips he should know throwing it left is not the best option. There's only 1 other defend to the right. If he looks right he has the option to run or try a pass to the RB.

so

Look left the entire time and throw the ball away because there is no safe play to the left.

or

Check out the other side of the field to see there are 2 decent options over there.

There are many options on every play. It's about finding the best ones.
