Edit: Great post by the way!

yes that's why i mentioned a pass to him of some sorts earlier. i think he has a better feel for the game when he can catch it and go. that's the closest thing to what he's been doing as a pro in the rugby league. catch the toss and then he makes magic happen.

Is WR a better fit than RB for Hayne?

No. RB is his position but in today's NFL there are specialist. You haven't had a chance to see it yet but when Reggie bush comes back you'll see what I think Hayne could possibly do. Screen passes and short throws to get him in space and let him run instead of having to read holes and lanes

Agree. On one play Hayne lowered his pads and looked like and NFL back, but most of the time he plays like a rugby player running into people with his chest and trying to veer off the hit. When he's outside or in the clear that kind of play works better. As he learns to keep lower and hit holes as a smaller target I think he could be special. But he's old to be learning this. Our kids learn this in junior high or high school.

How fast is Hayne? If he has a sense of where the holes are he could be a hybrid WR/RB. Some guys see the field and know how to find those gaps in the defense. It would be odd if he picked this up quickly but who knows?

Hayne's 40 yard time is equivalent to about the 6th (I think) fastest at this year's combine.
For years he's played a sport where efficient use of energy was as important as being fast, but now just because his legs don't go up & down in a whirlwind like an eggbeater people think he "looks slow". Bleh.

As for being old to learn, his coaches & teammates are all praises for how quickly he's coming along. If he can hang with fellow rookie running backs after a few weeks of learning though, then imagine how good he can become in a few months to a year.
It was a 4.53 40 if memory serves, I think it was hand timed at his private "pro-day". There's reason to think he may be quicker now, given that was only a few months after he started dedicated speed and power training.
Thanks guys! There is a prejudice against smooth runners by most fans...if they can't see it...doesn't exist! Hang in there, Hayne will get his chance! Would love to see a punt return for a TD soon.

Yeah, just a matter of time and opportunity. Hopefully it'll come soon as I'm sure something like that will give him plenty of confidence and help settle him into the NFL quicker.
with game 3 now completed are we at all concerned with the RB depth? if Hyde gets contained in the game who do we bring in for him?

Game 3 Davis had plenty of game time again with little to show for it....

lets hope Bush is back next week....

If hyde gets injured it wont matter who we bring into the game. Teams are willing to stack the box against us and force kap to beat us. Hyde has been running into loaded boxes all year and is just that good that it appears we have a decent running game regardless.

Reggie at least offer some screen action and checkdown options but wont be able to run effectively up the middle. In my honest opinion short of marshawn lynch, jamaal charles, leveon bell, ap and hyde there isnt a rb in the league who would look as good running into the boxes hyde has been running into all year.

so basically we are &%^% if Hyde gets injured.

Hyde is a beast of a runner no doubt on that, But bush will spread the line a little and help Kap and to give him time to throw better...well I hope anyway.

Hayne I see doing the same style of RB as Bush, problem is the coach doesn't trust him yet. so they used Davis as the back up and the DL new what was coming so stacked the boxes on both RB and forced Kap to throw under pressure each time. didn't ehlp that Kap had an absolute shocker and the 9ers OL was as porous as a volcanic rock you find on the beach... lets hope we can change that game three and the OL takes a spoon full of cement and toughens up

but hey what would I know... I don't have veteran listed in my signature.

No you understand it perfectly.
I do want this team to play well and win more then loose,
but like most of the aussies we are on these forums cause hayne now plays in this team so its now our team.

We don't care if they loose some games as long as they are trying. My issue is that I didn't see much trying in the last few games.

So toughen up b***hes & that goes for the 9ers fans as well as the team.

If we don't toughen up in all areas of the game we will get spanked all year.

Shame no one could have seen this coming. A Starter who had never made it through a full NFL season, an injury plagued back up who had zero chance of staying healthy and two rookies behind them.

Who could possibly have imagined that RB depth could be an issue?
could a WR or TE transition easily to RB or do they prefer to keep away from the engineroom

My money would be on Ellington if we go that route.

Likely Bruce Miller with 2TEs with some patton/ellington gimmicks
