he really isn't yet lol. he just runs straight. if the hole is there he's through. if it's not its a cloud of dust.
that's ok though. maybe utilize him in the screen game so that he can get a head of steam and then do damage
mike davis is good but he dances entirely too much. get forward young fella.

Yea Hayne just isn't ready and has no vision. Davis is ready and has no vision. Let's hope Hyde can stay healthy and Bush can spell him/ Let Hayne and Davis get sprinkled in the offense.

I know it's from preseason, but in the run at 3:35 in the video, it seems like the play was going to the right and Hayne is heading that way, then he sees space back to the left, makes a cut and finds the hole. Is this an example of him having enough vision to see the space and shows he doesn't just run straight, or am I seeing this all wrong?
Sorry about the video, I tried to find a gif of the play but failed.

during the regular season he has run the plays exactly how they've been designed. this is NOT A KNOCK on hayne. he has to learn the zone blocking system.
in the zone blocking system there are gaps he can choose to run through on every single play + there is a cutback option. so if a toss or run to the left, that is the general direction yes but you can choose whatever gap you feel will give you the best chance to gain yards and if there is nothing there you cutback
see hyde touchdown runs last game.
the one where he spun the play was designed to go to the right. there was nothing immediately there. the left side of the line executed their cutback blocks so he was able to cut it back and have that entire side of the field to work with and score.
on the 2nd td the run was to the right and the lane was wide open so he planted his leg and burst through that hole and scored a td.
it's tough to be able to read your blocks and decide which ones will be open. hyde has been doing this since high school probably.
hayne has been doing it for about 6 months

A toss! Maybe that would help put Hayne in the right frame of mind...have Kaepernick lateral him the ball rather than taking handoffs. It's what he use to and it will allow him to be on the move already.
Edit: Great post by the way!

Is there a case of a running back getting drilled in the kidneys with a helmet while doing the spin move?
The other disadvantage is you become unsighted momentarily.

Thanks for the explanation mate. Don't worry, a few might put Hayne on a pedestal unreasonably, but I'm definitely not unrealistic about how much still lies ahead for him to become serviceable as an RB from week to week. Having said that, he's done pretty well so far, under the circumstances. Obviously, my lack of football knowledge makes it difficult to quickly determine exactly what the things he needs to improve are however, so questions might seem too obvious or maybe even apologetic of Hayne. It's just I'm trying to get my head around something that, as you say, takes years for players to get good at, let alone us armchair footy players.

Yes, many coaches teach backs to avoid spin moves for those reasons. If you fail to see a tackler to the side you can be hurt. Jump moves are move common. Fun to watch those spin moves.

yes that's why i mentioned a pass to him of some sorts earlier. i think he has a better feel for the game when he can catch it and go. that's the closest thing to what he's been doing as a pro in the rugby league. catch the toss and then he makes magic happen.

Is WR a better fit than RB for Hayne?

I'm not a football snob. If you don't know just ask and I'll tell you. If i don't know I'll refer to someone who does.
Hayne is on an nfl roster. he is getting carries. aside from his very 1st touch he's been solid. Nobody expected him to rush for 150 yards a game. This is why I said in the Hayne thread that tomsula was not trying to discourage hayne or the fans or that he didn't like hayne he was protecting him. He had a couple of good games and then the hype started building too much. It's the NFL you're not going to be great every single game, nobody is. So he was trying to temper that so Hayne would be allowed to grow. Have good games and bad ones and still be even.
Hyde had 168 yards the 1st week and not even half of that this week. The guy we shut down adrian peterson had 31 yards against us and 134 yards today.. and he's considered by many the best running back in the league.

No. RB is his position but in today's NFL there are specialist. You haven't had a chance to see it yet but when Reggie bush comes back you'll see what I think Hayne could possibly do. Screen passes and short throws to get him in space and let him run instead of having to read holes and lanes

Yeah, I posted a few times a while back talking about how there will be good and bad games for Hayne, anyone who has watched sports for 5 minutes ought to know there's ups and downs, haha! To be honest, the success he had in preseason had me a little concerned too, and I said as much in the Hayne thread also. Balance was always gonna come in to put things back on an even keel some time.
Unfortunately, even 1 or 2 of our own guys were praising Hyde highly after the Vikings but then quickly pointed out his less than spectacular outing against the Steelers, so we're not immune to see-sawing a bit either.

No worries. The finer points of the positions are still very much a mystery. Like Hayne maybe after a season of games, I'll have half a clue.
