Early game on East coast in a short week. I overestimated our defense...thought we could keep it close. Tough loss but still early in the season. Memory serves me correct, this is the 4th season in a row where we dominated in opening weekend, then came out flat in week 2.

On to Arizona, which IMO is a must win given GB the following week.
the lack of pressure was killing us and it seemed like every time we dialed up a blitz they threw a screen with great success in the first half. We have to adjust on defensive play calling because we can't beat an elite or elitish quarterback with little pressure. OL and edge rushing will be high priority in FA and draft next year. I was excited after the Minnesota game but back to earth today.

Wow, Ben had a 155.8 rating against us. Our defense is pathetic.
I think that jimmy ward pick is looking mighty relevant. Good thing thing we didn't trade up for a blue chip dline.what a mistake that would have been.

Reality set in today. Personally, Im thinking this team doesnt win another game. Blueprint to opponent win very simple when Niners cant rush passer or defend pass. Palmer and Rodgers may both throw over 400 yds 4-5 TDs each. I blame FO for the talent level on that field.

Personally, with all due respect....and I do say with all due respect. Your prediction ain't worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin getting it on. In all seriousness, we obviously were schooled today. Short week, well rested opponent, x-country trip, early start, bad gameplan, or just flat out bad play.....what have you. None of that matters now, take the L and get ready for Zona.

Yes. Offense started slow and the o-line was terrible, but 99% of this game falls on the defense. That was shockingly bad.

Without drops by Miller, Boldin and Vernon, Kap goes for about 375 and 3TDs. Plus inches away from the final one. The majority of that was in the second half too. It's frustrating because anyone who watched Pitt last week knew that they're a huge liability against the pass. We just continued to pound the rock early. It was like the Jimmy Raye days. If we came out throwing and stayed in the game early this becomes a completely different game.
For those worried about Palmer, forget it. He's nothing special. Rothlesburger is one of the few elite QBs in the league. Palmer can't do what we saw today. The Cards will be tough, but beating up the lowly Bears doesn't mean anything.

They still need to be able to get to him. The Cards don't have anyone like Antonio Brown but guys like Floyd and John Brown can get open deep and Palmer has the arm and accuracy to get it to them if he has enough time in the pocket.

This is the exact reason there is so much niner on niner crime on this board, there appears to be such a disparity between those who have faith and those that after one loss are ready to throw the towel in. I mean it was a rough game I know but honestly, coming off the late Monday night game with basically three days of practice, recooperation ect. Also the fact that we went across the u.s. and played the early game against and angry Pitt team, we just got beat down today. But it wasn't as though this win is indicative of what the entirety of the season will be. We will play better against Zona

True, but he's still a QB that can pick you apart if you don't make him move. They have plenty of targets that can burn us down the field. The defense cannot repeat their performance today, and Mangini has to recognize when the blitz is ineffective and leaving his coverage vulnerable.

You might be in for a surprise if the pass rush plays like it did today.

I'm not to upset. Today we looked like a team with a first year HC, new OC, new Oline scheme, new D coordinator, and some of our veterans replaced with lesser talent. We looked like we still have some growing pains and I expected that before the season even started.

Floyd's hand is busted and marginally better than JPP's. Palmer doesn't have Ben accuracy and he certainly can't stand tall in the pocket like Ben. Palmer folds under pressure unlike Ben. We'll blitz Arizona and have more success.

LOL at all the salty fans in the thread. When the 49ers win, they're going all the way and when they lose the universe exploded.

One extreme to the other lmao.

It didn't affect AZ at all
Some of you posters are totally overreacting to this loss. First, Pittsburgh had 10 days to fix their problems on D that they had against the Patriots. They apparently did.oline couldn't protect Kap and did not open holes in the run game. Drops and turnovers made it worse.

Defensively,No pass rush and they were on the field way too long. Couldn't make a stop on 3rd down to save their lives.

Cardinals are gonna try to exploit the secondary again next week. The d has got to apply pressure to Palmer or it will be the same outcome.
