It didn't affect AZ at all

Chicago is about half the distance as Pitt there, champ. And then there's that Jimmy Clausen guy.....

Not to mention AZ wasn't coming off a short week, and Chicago didn't have 10 days to rest up and prepare.

No excuses is a poorly used cliche. That s**t matters when you play a sport as punishing on the body as football.
Pass rush is key. Go look at what the Ravens D looks like without Suggs, they are getting carved up by Oakland.

Yup, and they still have some decent players upfront. You don't get pressure, most every QB will light you up.

Don't pressure an elite QB like Big Ben, and a game like today happens. It could have been worse. Saw him go off for 500 yards and 6 TDs last year against Indy.
Don't compare Chicago to Pittsburgh. The Bears are awful and have one, if not the worst starting QB in the league and then his even worse backup had to play.

Yup, nobody in their right mind would make that comparison.

Some people are trying to equate AZs road travel to ours, which is b******t. AZ had a normal road game against an inferior team. We went on short rest against a very good team on 10 days rest. Not in any way the same.
We got beat by a good team...make changes and move on
This is not the end of the world, the Steelers are a consistent playoff team with good players, they had a few extra days to prepare for the game and obviously didn't have to travel like the 49ers did with less preparation time, sometimes on those short turnarounds on the road sees teams get spanked, happens all the time in the NRL too.

This - pass rush, especially vs. top QBs like Big Ben, is a must or stuff like today will happen. Our CBs didn't play very well but they had little help today. The pass rush must improve - it and the OL are by far my biggest concerns going forward.

This. Happens in the NBA all the time too. 2nd game of a back-to-back, on the road against a team well rested. Seen many blowouts under these circumstances. These guys are human.

Travel east, 5 days rest, against a team playing at home on 10 days rest. Yeah, no disadvantage there.
Post game, coaches and players say: "It's not how you lose, but how you respond".

Nice words, but only carry weight if you correct mistakes and win the next one.

I agree, but a lot of this loss is also in the game planning. As poor as the Steelers secondary is, why did we not take more advantage? Is the staff lacking faith in the passing game? Also, against a QB that smart and accurate, and WR's that fast, why would you think blitzing every down will work?

Agree, the gameplan wasn't sound and did not put players in the best position possible.

At the same time, the players were sloppy. On a simple WR screen, it could have gotten decent yardage, but Boldin completely whiffs his block and it loses yards. Just one of many examples where the playcall was fine, but the players didn't execute.

The OL couldn't block to save their lives. The biggest problem I saw was with Martin at C. If you can't pass block, you can't really pass and guys like Heyward were getting into the backfield right off the snap.

Martin is still too green. He's out of his depth right now trying to anchor the center of the line. Need to get someone in there that knows what he's doing and can physically hold up.

Don't understand why Brian De La Puente is still on the street. Pretty decent center, he's a local guy, plenty of quality experience on good pass blocking lines.
The FO inactivity to get better defensive talent when all the retirements and cuts happened is showing now. Reality hits after the feelgood opening night. The Blind squirrel finds acorns sometimes, this year it happened right away. Just cant see Niners winning a game rest of way with the secondary being so incompetent. Couple that with no pass rush and thats a formula for losing alot. Baalke's reliance on the ACL gang in secondary should be his ticket out of town IMO.
