I can certainly understand the folks who some are calling "haters". I think all Niner fans are disappointed that the team didn't play better, the coaching staff didn't prepare better, the game plan wasn't drawn up better, etc.
While I was disappointed in the outcome of the game, I wasn't surprised. This is a very young team, Zoners, and a relatively inexperienced coaching staff (Tomsula and Christ having new coaching roles). They are going to get schooled occasionally, especially on the road.
Personally, I think this loss speaks more to the lack of experience than overall talent. The Niners still have a talented roster. However, they are still getting used to new systems on offense and defense (hence the mistakes made by the veteran safeties), and the team has several new starters (3 on the O-line alone). The lack of experience and cohesion was a big factor in this loss. Sometimes, it is good for young players to get a wake up call like this. It is painful but it should motivate guys to get better.
Now, all of that stated, the question is, will the team learn from these mistakes and get better as the season progresses? I honestly think that yes, the team will improve...
Cheers!

Lol good times
Still a hater
No. We aren't a great team.
I don't know why you guys think we are.
Justin Smith was so central to our D as was Aldon. We can't replace their losses on D in 1 season
No one says we are great team, but there's no need to kick people down either
The players aren't reading this lol
Who said anything about the players
Maybe we would take Sun more serious if he knew anything about the players that are actually on this team. So he got one prediction right. Here is your cookie.

This.
Yup. That threw everyone off sync.
Yes! Last year it was being cute on offense. This year we're being cute on defense.
So f'n true. The "genius" made us look really dumb.
Yup. We need to save the exotic blitz for the whack QBs and play it safe with the better QBs. Our DBs are not ready to cover better QB to QR combos one on one.

fister and sanjo, I mentioned earlier on that if Pears (at least 3 motion penalties, and i know of at least a couple whiffs), isn't doing the job, consider putting Brown in and giving him a shot. If he really is destined to become the RT then get him in now and see if he does better than Pears. The guy is a walking mountain, plus is athletic(dunks a basketball), so why not bring him in early on and see if he doesn't do some better? As for the DBs, i think mangini's blitzing in Vikes game helped cover their weaknesses...which is exactly what you want your coaches to do. Problem today was we went up against a top tier HC, top tier front 7 D that has been good for years, top tier WR (Brown had what 185 yds on 9 receptions and 2 TDs), a top tier Qb (that means top 5 or thereabout), and also these guys have been playing together for over 7 some yrs. We have 3 OL guys all rooks and one who wasn't on our team just 14 days ago. Our coach is a rook, our guys have basically been playing together just over 7-8 weeks, we lost 4 all pro LBs, 2 all pro OLs, an OL DT, an all pro RB, we kept virtually all our 13 draft picks, lost our punter(Has been all pro), and had a couple DBs move on elsewhere who had some experience. So, the DBs were not bailed out by the front 7, and the since we never laid a hand on Ben Rotths, the blitzing did not help disguise the lack of talent at DB.
Against less talented teams mangini probably use the blitz to cover up our DBs shortcomings. AGainst Mike Tomlin and Big Ben, it wasn't going to work. So no big deal, we just ran into a buzz saw, but it shows that against the elites, the deficiency at DB is going to be exposed. That would also incl NE, SEA, GB, and may also include AZ and maybe rams.

I was pissed during and shortly after the game (beer fueled the rage) but after watching more football and having a good day in fantasy it all buffed out. It was an embarrassing loss and all but its week 2 not 12. We can/need to recover. Next week is a much bigger game

I think it's time for a little perspective. Yes, they got their asses kicked today, so what? For months, people who claim to know about these things have been saying they expected the team to go 8-8. If that is indeed the case then two games into the season and they are right on track to make those predictions come true. However, today wasn't and division loss or a conference loss, which is more than the 0-2 Seahawks can say, who I think most reasonable people will agree are probably a better team at the moment. Seahawks and Rams both lost which means the Niners didn't lose any ground there.
Cardinals won big but what better warm up for next weeks game than to play against a pocket passer who likes to get the ball down field and has the wideouts to do it. Seems to me this was a great lesson in terms of finding out where the weaknesses are in their pass defense. Now they have a chance to try and address them when they face the Cardinals, which is a far more important game for them to win than this one was. If they do beat the Cardinals then they'll be tied for first in the division so again, I'm not sure where all of the handwringing is coming from.
There were actually some things I liked in this game in spite of the outcome. They put a couple of nice drives together but couldn't finish them off. They got Mike Davis some experience which can't hurt. I thought Kaepernick had some good throws and, it seems to me, that a lot of the big plays the Steelers came up were the result of just some sick throws by Roethlisberger and some near misses by the defense. I thought Reid had a chance to make a play on a couple of balls that slipped by him. Maybe next time he gets those picks.
Hayne continues to show that he doesn't have the experience yet to really be a really effective back but he got positive yards on both his carries and he continues to be a fun story to follow. The real question, which someone else pointed out above, whether or not Vernon Davis is still the best option as the starting TE. Injuries to Bell and MacDonald will keep him there for awhile, along with his rep, but he just doesn't seem like the same player he was a couple of years ago. One has to wonder if maybe he has just lost his passion for the game. Anyway on to the Cardinals next week and hopefully a better outcome

He only got 2 carries, hard to make anything or draw any conclusions of that. I still think he can be very effective......in bush's role, not running up the middle but on short passing and getting him to use the skills we know he has. Hayne certainly looks much much better than Davis........although it was Davis's first game too
As for the rest of the game, it was disappointing but not unexpected. Just hope we learn what is needed to be learnt

Terrific post.
I figured it would be a very close game and that we'd pull it out but the Steelers came out with added focus to win the LOS in their home opener and just executed perfectly. They could do no wrong. This happens in sports. Despite controlling the clock, having long time-consuming drives, we couldn't capitalize and as a result, the original game plan had to be thrown out and after the 3 big bombs, the game plan started to work against us (we needed more time on the clock and to completely switch game plans but it was too late). Game plans for both offense and defense were poor too. With lack of preparation time it seemed like we just stuck to what we did the previous week instead of having an opponent-specific game plan. That, was a big mistake.
Reality Check: Right now, there are only 2 really good teams in the NFC: Cards and Packers. And the Packers have lost a ton of WR's and just lost their power back to an ankle injury. Cards? They ALWAYS start out hot...then usually flame out as the year progresses. But they are hot right now, no doubt.
Aside from the Cardinals, what team poses 3 deep-threats at WR with a terrific, veteran deep-ball thrower? I think we are well suited to match up week-in and week-out as long as we can dictate the game by sticking to our game plans: methodical passing game (no INT's) coupled with a terrific running game, mobile QB threat, take some calculated deeper shots, play sound, dictating yet-disciplined defense, play excellent ST's play (coverage, returns, field position, FG's), etc.
I think this coaching staff learns a lot from this ass-whoopin and continues to adjust and form our identity. I have a feeling they will make the necessary adjustments. They are growing right along with the players here.
