The same one that was getting the business the last few weeks of the season and the playoffs???

The only truly legit dominant defense this team had was in 2011 when guys Justin Smith, Soap and McDonald all had career years.
Wilhoite was supposed to have safety help. Bethea was awful today. He gets a lot of love around here but has always seemed overrated to me. He was burnt toast out there

And 2013.

Jeff Deeny just posted a GIF of Reid at the LOS and then backing way the f**k up on that first big Bryant catch (one of many)

Reid looked winded all game, and I noticed him on STs coverage

bad coaching

I don't think they switched positions necessarily. Just trying to show different looks. In the end, it didn't matter. Ben had all day to throw, and the blitz looks put us at a disadvantage.

When we blitzed, it didn't get home. When we bluffed blitz, the safeties had a tough time retreating back into coverage.

Just not a good gameplan, but front 7 deserves most of the blame imo. No pressure on Ben AT ALL.

So the one in 2014, when most were still healthy, that held one of the best offenses in the NFL to zero points doesn't count?

Not an excuse but just part of the reason they got killed was that was a bit of unfair scheduling to make a west coast team play on Mon night, then go x-country to eastern TZ on a short week for a 10am kick vs team that's been off for 9 days.

Absurd scheduling for sure, especially with Pittsburgh already having 10 days off. It doesn't excuse the mental breakdowns we had today, but it does have an effect on guys coming out flat.

There is a reason West Coast teams have an abysmal record 10:00 am East Coast games. Now you make that team travel on a short week against a team with extra days rest. Absurd.

You'd think that if the scheduling computer spit that out then a human would pick up on it.

I have no issue playing Pittsburgh week 2, but it should have been a 4 PM EST start, or 1 PM PST start. It does seem unfair, but no matter who played Pittsburgh, it would be unfair, same for playing NE when they had 10 days rest.

NE had to go on the road today, though, correct? But I agree, if Pitt is going to be home in this scenario, at the very least it needs to be a 4pm ET kick.

Yea after 10 days off and a short plane ride to upstate NY. The comparisons are not nearly the same.
Good: Kaep (for having the heart to play)

Bad: Coaching and players

Ugly: 7 wins seem like the upper threshold

I disagree, there wasn't much pass rush, but Ben wasn't holding on to the ball on most of those big plays. Guys were just running wide open. Our secondary looks awful.

I think one reason to give the crowded LoS look is to help confuse the pass pro. It's to help the pass rush that couldn't get a thing going. Especially with a 4 man rush.

2013 they actually slipped even further. No Aldon Smith for much of that season and Justin and Ray both regressed quite a bit from the absurd peak they were at in 2011. Their run defense regressed every year after 2011.

2013 the defense balled out and almost took us all the way until we ran into another stout defense.

Bowman was playing out of his mind that year.

The same one in 2014 that gave up 42 points to the Broncos and 38 points to the Chargers and couldn't stop Drew Stanton when it counted.

but why can't we just run the prevent D that has worked against GB 4x in a row?

I know Fangio is gone, but Mangini and Tomsula were on that staff and saw how well that D worked

*knock on wood*

No injuries. Look at the Eagles/Dallas game. Holy f**k.

Our defense have always succeeded by getting pressure from 4 pass rushers. Period. Blitzing is great, but you've got to have DBs that know how to handle the more complicated assignments.

We had a DB in culiver who excelled at this. unfortunately Trent loves his ACL boys

You guys don't get it. We can't get pressure with the front 4 we have. Do you not remember Cully get torched in the SB when we couldn't get to Flacco. If you only rush 4, you have to get to the QB or any DB will get toasted.
