One play Ben had at least six secs in the pocket. Kap also has to realize that even though a wr has a defender on him you can still throw the ball and give your wr a chance. I really hope they gameplan well for Arizona and not get so run heavy cause we will be down by 20 again and by time Kap shakes the rust off it will be fourth qrt.
Shake the rust off? Kaep was 65% on completions in the first half and 72% for the game. I believe there were a total of 4 drops with atleast one being a big 3rd down pass and the other a TD.

Ward played well when he was on the field. His coverage on the corner right throw to the endzone was perfect!
Hope we see more of Ward with our secondary getting beat often. (Bethea,Reid)

you never get to high after a win and you never get to low after a loss. the guys who were very good last monday and not so good sunday did not all of a sudden turn into"garbage' over night. I just think everyone, cept for smith and ck, had bad days vs a good team on a short week then you lose our running game. for me I know a licking like that is easier for me to take than a close loss.
does that mean I liked it and the poor play? no
did i like the poor play on the line on both sides of the ball? no
do i like the penalties and the self destruction in the red zone ? no
But this is still a good team and its early so people, if they can, just need to relax.I have not read any posts in the last 24 hours but I can imagine what they are as the people who seem to take delight in our team struggling usually come out in big numbers after something like sunday.,
But no one is getting fired, no one is getting cut, no one is getting traded,. no x niners who are x niners are coming back to save the day and we have no clue if the guys we let go in free agency would have helped yesterday had they still been with us( i am SURE that is being said somewhere).
I have no time for people to act like they are happy with the loss. i know the coaches and players will work hard to correct what went wrong sunday and now we will see the true measure of our coaches and our players.

Not sure if that was due to the short week and long travel, or Pittsburgh looking to come out firing in their home opener and get a much needed win. Probably a little bit of both. Steelers played a nasty, physical, fast game. They kicked it up a gear, and we couldn't match it.
No doubt this 49er team was capable of a better effort. They didn't play with the same intensity level as last week. Guys were not firing off the ball and looking to make a play. No excuses. Just have to own it and do better next week.
The entire team looked jet lagged or something, they were very flat with little intensity or energy.
i know its a poor excuse,, since you would like to think they would have woke up by half time,, but especially on a short week and the steelers had ten days to rest,,,, we usually get burned in that midwest time, of which i am a part of,.. as king said, there is no excuse for lack of effort and i am sure it will get better. that is something you can control. gotta have more energy moving forward

Meh they also played the Saints and the Bears who were terrible last season
What were we?
no matter who it is, we just have to have better energy, of course stop with the penalties but the energy level has to get back to what it was in week one, that is the one thing we control no matter who we play. after a whupping like sunday, everyone can look in the mirror and its all about us and not who we play, in my opinion

Yeah Miller dropped an easy TD

I feel like the issues yesterday we're completely scheme related and fixable. Obviously time will tell if this coaching staff will make the changes. Two things must happen:
1 - We CANNOT keep having Reid and Bethea showing blitz constantly in the box then sprinting back in coverage for help deep. That's single handedly the reason we gave up so many deep passes....Reid did not have time or the speed to get back in coverage against Pitts WR's. Some teams that will work for...not teams like Pitt.
2 - I know we run to run and be a physical team but we have to mix it up and utilize Kaps talents. He's looked very good through 2 games...we need more of a balance to keep the running game going.

On a side note the offensive line looked horrendous, even staley.
woulda been suspended for the game anyway

- Martin/Devey/Pears
- 3rd down defense
- Drive killing mistakes in the first half (penalties, key dropped passes)
- Acker versus ABrown
All this, but move all items from "Bad" column to "Ugly".

The weird thing is 49er coaches think hes good.
no, the weird thing is that it says a lot about the competition.
I think Peras can get the job done if he gets help. Chryst helped him a lot in week one with TE help, boots, and rollouts. Not so much help this week. I really hope Brown is making strides. That kid has the physical ability to be special.

Tried way too hard to establish the run game. Everyone knew the steelers weakness were their DBs yet we didn't try to exploit that until the game was out of hand.
In the end though the D was giving up too much. Nothing we would have done would have been enough.

Exactly! I was screaming more playaction and throw mid to deep routes.

San Francisco 49ers— Rookie defensive end Arik Armstead (+1.3) played only 14 snaps yesterday, but he was still able to flash his skills. The Oregon alum recorded two quarterback hurries on his nine pass rush snaps, which was tied for most among the 49ers. Besides his success in going after Ben Roethlisberger, Armstead also graded positively against the run with a run defense grade of +0.8.
— While the Steelers dominated the 49ers throughout the entire game, quarterback Colin Kaepernick's (+3.8) play can provide hope to the team's fans. Kaepernick's pass grade of +7.4 was actually higher than that of Roethlisberger's, as the San Francisco quarterback accurately delivered 11 of his 13 passes over 10 yards, although two of these were dropped. Kaepernick completed 27 of 32 passes when he was not blitzed and finished with a passer rating of 126.8 on these throws.
— Joe Staley (-0.4) has been a reliable piece of the San Francisco 49ers offensive line for years, however yesterday he did not stand out from a struggling unit. Although he was his usual dominant self in the run game as he picked up a run block grade of +1.4, he was one of the weaker members of the line when it came to protecting Kaepernick. Staley allowed two sacks, two quarterback hurries (both most on his team), and four quarterback hurries. San Francisco fans can hope this was just an off day for the veteran tackle rather than a sign of things to come.

Pit was SOOOOOO keyed on the run. I was screaming for 1st down bootlegs and other PA passing. Hopefully, lessons learned.

Coaching and the game plans put together by the coaching staff sums up this game..just wow
we came out w/ the same exact defense and blitz schemes that we used on teddy and that pathetic offense and tried to use them on big ben and this prolific offense...
that's ridiculously stupid
on top of that we also came out and ran power formations and passed from power formations against this crappy pittsburgh secondary....
we have a coaching problem
that was my main fear about this team...the talent is there but the coaches are the question mark and they let the team down on sunday
that was terrible game plans on both sides of the ball
steelers were in max protect and we continued to blitz instead of dropping everyone back and steelers were selling out to stop the run and we didn't use torrey smith until it was too late
