A comment that is sure to rankle a lot of feathers, the reality is that the 49ers are essentially the same team they've been over the last few years WITHOUT the benefit of a top 5 defense to carry an offense that is still trying to find an identity; looking at this team objectively.
As "great" (and I use the term loosely) as the former coach who shall not be named is, I didn't think the defense got enough credit for a lot of his success, and it's not a knock on him at all if that makes sense.

that's ridiculously stupid
on top of that we also came out and ran power formations and passed from power formations against this crappy pittsburgh secondary....
we have a coaching problem
that was my main fear about this team...the talent is there but the coaches are the question mark and they let the team down on sunday
that was terrible game plans on both sides of the ball
steelers were in max protect and we continued to blitz instead of dropping everyone back and steelers were selling out to stop the run and we didn't use torrey smith until it was too late
This is spot on

I said numerous times last year that Fangio saved Harbs a lot.

Exactly! I was screaming more playaction and throw mid to deep routes.
Bingo!
It looked like return of JH crap.
We need to play our next game like KAP played in the 2nd half.
If we played like that at the start it would have opened up the running game.

The Oregon alum recorded two quarterback hurries on his nine pass rush snaps, which was tied for most among the 49ers. Besides his success in going after Ben Roethlisberger, Armstead also graded positively against the run with a run defense grade of +0.8.
— While the Steelers dominated the 49ers throughout the entire game, quarterback Colin Kaepernick's (+3.8) play can provide hope to the team's fans. Kaepernick's pass grade of +7.4 was actually higher than that of Roethlisberger's, as the San Francisco quarterback accurately delivered 11 of his 13 passes over 10 yards, although two of these were dropped. Kaepernick completed 27 of 32 passes when he was not blitzed and finished with a passer rating of 126.8 on these throws.
— Joe Staley (-0.4) has been a reliable piece of the San Francisco 49ers offensive line for years, however yesterday he did not stand out from a struggling unit. Although he was his usual dominant self in the run game as he picked up a run block grade of +1.4, he was one of the weaker members of the line when it came to protecting Kaepernick. Staley allowed two sacks, two quarterback hurries (both most on his team), and four quarterback hurries. San Francisco fans can hope this was just an off day for the veteran tackle rather than a sign of things to come.
Well said!

I just think everyone, cept for smith and ck, had bad days vs a good team on a short week then you lose our running game. for me I know a licking like that is easier for me to take than a close loss.
does that mean I liked it and the poor play? no
did i like the poor play on the line on both sides of the ball? no
do i like the penalties and the self destruction in the red zone ? no
But this is still a good team and its early so people, if they can, just need to relax.I have not read any posts in the last 24 hours but I can imagine what they are as the people who seem to take delight in our team struggling usually come out in big numbers after something like sunday.,
But no one is getting fired, no one is getting cut, no one is getting traded,. no x niners who are x niners are coming back to save the day and we have no clue if the guys we let go in free agency would have helped yesterday had they still been with us( i am SURE that is being said somewhere).
I have no time for people to act like they are happy with the loss. i know the coaches and players will work hard to correct what went wrong sunday and now we will see the true measure of our coaches and our players.
Agree
We knew the Haters would be out in full force and they are.
If we beat the Cards next week they'll find a reason to downplay it.
I stopped giving my time and energy to negative people along time ago and life has been much better since.

Right on. We are a running team, but priority one should always be to get Kaep into a rhythm, whether that means pounding the rock or not. If Kaep is on, the running lanes will open up.
I'm also a bit worried about the pass D, but I don't think there was anything inherently wrong with our players or playbook. If we dialed up the same plays in a better order, we might have had a fighting chance. Good news is we don't see Pitt anymore. Bad news is the rest of the schedule will take notice. Get to work, coaches!

Fully agree. It's really not that we need to come out passing like we're the Patriots. More so, if it's obvious the cards are playing to stop the run, then exploit that!
It gave me hope that against Minn we stuck with the run. I thought, wow finally a coaching staff that goes with what's working and doesn't try shooting themselves in the foot. So I thought for certain after every run stuff we'd try something else. It's too bad it took them until the game was lost to start passing with some consistency.
So hopefully against the cards, who I'm sure is going to load up the box, we don't keep running Hyde into a brick wall. We still have 14 games for God's sake.

I don't know, I'm kind of proud of the guys, they got whooped, but it didn't seem like there was any quit in them. Steelers were just more physical than us, I thought we were trying, but we don't have the personnel anymore to be the bullies on a weekly basis.
We aren't going to be able to match that type of offense, so I didn't have a problem with the game plan. What concerns is the lack of pass rush, average cover corners, o- lineman I never knew existed. We're 1-1 , if we went .500 for the season, I'd be stoked.

Agreed. With everything that happened to us this off-season I think that's about as well as we could have expected. At least we lost to a good team. The Rams got crushed by Redskins. Seattle is 0-2.
We need to load up on offensive lineman in the draft.

Despite their loss to the Patriots, Pittsburgh is a very good team. VERY good. Let's not panic over this loss. As ugly as some parts of it were, that is what happens when a young team in a new system runs into a very good team in a settled system. At this point I fully expect that the AFCC game will be between NE and the Steelers. Those two are the class of the AFC, IMO.

Very true...people talk about the Patriots "drubbing" the Steelers and the big story was Tom Brady on fire. However, the Steelers only lost by 7 points without their bell cow RB and 2nd WR. Patriots look like the creme of the crop again in the AFC.

Yeah. What did Acker do that was good? Make the tackle?
This, can't say he did a good job when the dude he was on most of the game had 195 yards receiving.
To be fair Brock didn't much better on Brown. You know our #1 CB.

There will be a number of other CBs this season that will give up a lot of yards to Antonio Brown. The guy is Top 5 in the league.
