Defensively they just don't have the horses upfront. Where is Brooks?

Brooks...Bowman...Staley...Boone...all invisible which to me is just a case of the entire team being flat. They came in sleepwalking and got crushed. Now they know what to prepare for next week as the Cards will throw the same sort of offense at them

Good:
-Kap: he was the only one doing everything right and no one else helped him out when it mattered.

Bad:
- Run D: we are better than that. AP is 10 times the RB that Deangelo is
-Acker: lets be serious...he is a practically a rookie going up against a top 3 WR with 2 time SB winning QB. He did not get a lot of help over the top either

Ugly:
-Drops. Way too many. killed drives and dropped momentum
-O line: was unsure if they were even trying. Poor Kap couldnt do anything
-secondary (safeties mostly): blown coverages and little help over the top. Reid costed us a lot of big plays.
-PLay calling: Just horrible. We should have been passing more against a team that got lit up the week before. Once we figured that out it was too late

Coming out with a game plan of let's force-feed Hyde was not smart considering the potent offense the Steelers have... not every team in the NFL will be like the Vikings in Week 1. IMO it does nothing for the continued growth of CK and the offense to pretend you're a road-grading smashmouth team... granted Steelers' D let up some in the 4th qtr, and I'm not saying the 49ers need to come out looking to throw 40+ times, but I think they'll be better-served with a more "wide-open" offense.

Agree the 49ers need to be a more wide-open offense, and we can still run it effectively doing that. Kap and Hyde fit that type of offense.
I was thinking to myself all week that we were not going to be able to stop brown and i figured he would go off but i figured let him do his thing but dont let someone else go off and they did just that. 3 td from williams and HEYWARD-BEY cmon and miller.

Granted brown set some of thise up but if we could have limited the damage from other players we could have been ok but we didnt and got throttled. This was really on tye DEFENSE but RZ offense didn't do us any favors

I know we were behind and it probably loosened up pitts defense but why do we need to be far behind to open up the offense. For all the kaep haters he played rather well and his stat line was up there with the elite qbs from this week. I know people like the run game but its more of a hindrance for us and the development of kaep.
Cant hate on kaep if they dont take the training wheels off
Kap looking good is really ALL that matters right now. This is his year to step up and become a leader, and a better QB. If he can do that, we could have a terrible season and still come out a winner this year.

If Kap continues this upward trend, he will establish himself as a franchise QB once and for all, which will shape the next 7+ years for this team.

We got trounced today, and Kap didnt back down. He was on target, unafraid, and poised. If you take away the dropped passes, hes close to a 400 yard day with 3 TD's.

This. They didnt have a chance for those big plays because the OL was getting swarmed. Pittsburgh was motivated beyond belief.

Now watch them lose on the road to the Rams next week.

Just huge mental mistakes all day. TBPH I kind of expected the game to go this way though obviously not as bad. Big Ben is a great downfield passer and Brown is amazing and getting DBs to think he is running full speed and then shifting into next gear to make a play.

This is the kind of offense that will absolutely destroy a scheme like Mangini's when the pass rush doesn't get to the QB. Cant expect Safeties to show blitz and fall back against WRs that all run in the 4.3s. Gives the secondary no chance especially with no pass rush. Kudos to the steelers, they came out fired up and took advantage of their long layoff vs our short week, the intensity difference was noticeable.

The main positive I saw was when it looked like Kap was starting to revert back to mr. happy feet and start jitterbugging all game… he was able to stop and get centered and keep his eyes down field. In the past he would of just kept trying to run forward instead he skirted the LOS and made some plays.

Don't think we are as bad as we played today or as dominant as the Vikes game. Lots of growing pains for this young team but eager to see how they rally from this for next week. As predicted there will be allot of ups and downs this year.
This, it looked like the defensive game plan was to have the safeties let the wide receivers beat us deep all day.
Acker is getting some blame that is completely undeserved. He was in zone often when they were completing passes to Brown and the safeties were out of the picture.
That fumble by Hyde was as much Kap's fault as the ball was almost pointing vertically when he handed it off.
Compete lack of focus by the offense with some of the penalties, all of the drops, 2 by Boldin, 1 by Davis, and the td drop was pathetic for not having both hands on the ball when you go to the ground.
Still all of those things can be cleaned up and considering we had drives of 17 plays twice and 15 and a quick strike this offense looks promising.
However, we really need to score in the red zone.

I didn't know that. But when I see ABrown behind Acker and no one else in the picture, I put that on Acker. There was one play where Reid took a poor angle to double cover Brown, but that was one play. For the most part, Acker was getting owned left and right by Brown.

Not an excuse but just part of the reason they got killed was that was a bit of unfair scheduling to make a west coast team play on Mon night, then go x-country to eastern TZ on a short week for a 10am kick vs team that's been off for 9 days.

We also spread them out in the second half. Considering how bad NE did them you'd think we'd take at least a FEW notes.

Yup. Our plan in the RZ was all wrong. Wasted too many downs trying to run it in. Spread that s**t out and let Kap make a play.

I was shouting the same thing at the tv. I hate that lets bash it in mentality from coaches. As a h.s. j.v. I talked our QB into changing a play when the coach had called 2 straight plays like that and the defense was keying on our formation. He said I had better be right but there was no defender outside me and the RB trotted into the endzone with out getting touched. When I came off the field the coach wanted to know where the play came from and I just grinned and shrugged my shoulders . Now I realize pro football is very different but sometimes the bludgeon mentality just doesn't work.

This is how you CREATE parody. The league talks about it and this is how it's manufacturered.
Good
Kaep did some nice work, albeit the game was over by then. He showed that he can still ball when unleashed. That one sideline pass to Boldin was nice. He evaded the rush, looked off to the RB (?), and roped one to the sidelines for the conversion.

Bad
Hyde's running style is very prone to getting nicked up. He's got to protect himself. Mike Davis isn't quite ready to take on the load.

Ugly
Gameplans on offense and defense were pretty conservative. Pittsburg did have more time to scheme, but I expected the 49ers to come out more aggressive on the road.
The defense obviously can't be giving up big plays left and right.
On offense, they need to unleash Kaep. The RBs and OL probably isn't good enough to carry the offense every week. They need to have Kaep set up the run more.

Burger had a perfect pocket to throw from every time he dropped back. To break the monotony he rolled out a few times and was all by himself. I thought we were better than that. Kap showed guts and improvement. Brown for the Cardinals can't wait for next week. When Heyward-Never- Been blows by you anytime he wants you're in serious trouble.

Absurd scheduling for sure, especially with Pittsburgh already having 10 days off. It doesn't excuse the mental breakdowns we had today, but it does have an effect on guys coming out flat.

There is a reason West Coast teams have an abysmal record 10:00 am East Coast games. Now you make that team travel on a short week against a team with extra days rest. Absurd.
