NE had to go on the road today, though, correct? But I agree, if Pitt is going to be home in this scenario, at the very least it needs to be a 4pm ET kick.

Yup, it has to be a later start time at least for a West Coast team. NE hardly has to travel to get to Buffalo. That's like a 90 minute flight, and they had 10 days rest.

Kap was the only one who showed up today! Thank god we have him.

Not an excuse but just part of the reason they got killed was that was a bit of unfair scheduling to make a west coast team play on Mon night, then go x-country to eastern TZ on a short week for a 10am kick vs team that's been off for 9 days.

Absurd scheduling for sure, especially with Pittsburgh already having 10 days off. It doesn't excuse the mental breakdowns we had today, but it does have an effect on guys coming out flat.

There is a reason West Coast teams have an abysmal record 10:00 am East Coast games. Now you make that team travel on a short week against a team with extra days rest. Absurd.

You'd think that if the scheduling computer spit that out then a human would pick up on it.

It is an unfair disadvantage for a West Coast team. I think we can all agree on that. But we have seen past great 49er coaches like Walsh, Seifert, and Harbaugh make it a non-factor by not letting their teams use it as an excuse and throwing in some great planning and great coaching.

I was shouting the same thing at the tv. I hate that lets bash it in mentality from coaches. As a h.s. j.v. I talked our QB into changing a play when the coach had called 2 straight plays like that and the defense was keying on our formation. He said I had better be right but there was no defender outside me and the RB trotted into the endzone with out getting touched. When I came off the field the coach wanted to know where the play came from and I just grinned and shrugged my shoulders . Now I realize pro football is very different but sometimes the bludgeon mentality just doesn't work.

Just look at what the Steelers did to us. They were on the goalline and 2 pt conversions running 5 wide, and made it look easy. That's how it's done.

We tried that a couple of times - but the routes / throws were so predictable - threw outside EVERY time (oh, except the one late throw in the back of the endzone to TSmith.

Yeah. We even outcoached ourselves today as well. No excuses. Some good things did come out of this in context. We'll be alright. Lick our wounds and get ready to play a hot team in the Cards right now.

Cardinal game is going to be a tough one. Palmer is playing out of his mind.

I agree. I don't think many here believed we would win this game. You can still hope. Who would have thought the Rams would lose to the Skins or that TB would beat New Orleans.
The first 4 weeks of the NFL is always strange and not necessarily indicative of the remainder of the season.
Even as poorly as the team played. I'm still excited about this season.

correct me if I'm wrong, but did we get in the red zone 5 times and only come away with 10 points?

Yup. Our plan in the RZ was all wrong. Wasted too many downs trying to run it in. Spread that s**t out and let Kap make a play.

we shouldve ran 4 TE sets, that's what NE did against Pitt, we have 4 good TEs - who can also run block

Good:
- Team didn't pack it in for the 2nd half
- Kap's accuracy and decisiveness when given time

Bad:
- No pressure when rushing 4
- Blitzes not getting home
- Safety play

Ugly:
- Martin/Devey/Pears
- 3rd down defense
- Drive killing mistakes in the first half (penalties, key dropped passes)
- Acker versus ABrown
The ugly on the offensive line wasn't Martin/Devey/Pears--I didn't expect them to be perfect. The ugly was the f'ing rhino who got his ass kicked all day--that is the ugly. Shut up and get tough Boone.

Not mad, I knew we wouldn't beat Pittsburgh, I knew they would be too much, Brown is a beast, and Williams looked like a young back out there.

Boldin and Miller's drops hurt, other than the 75 yard TD to Torrey, which I missed, I dont think we went to him much. We should have attacked their secondary more, and earlier.

he had 5 other catches

also good:

Torrey Smith, 6, 120, 1

Kap connecting with him is the only positive from this game

Garbage time doesn't count. The Steelers obviously had already taken the foot off the pedal by then. Let's judge this offense when it mattered. That's 5 putrid quarters, 2 mediocre quarters, and 1 good quarter out of 8 played so far this year.
All that against a mediocre 7-9 team with a 2nd year QB and a Pittsburgh team that got blown out last week.

He had at least 4 of those when the game was still in reach, just the fact that Kap is looking at him is a plus
The MM experiment at C needs to be off. He's mentally awful. Would like to see what the guy we got from Baltimore can bring. He graded high in the pre season. And I don't even want to start with Pears Brown should have started the year
