Here's the play that had all kinds of concepts melded together that I mentioned in my opening post. Manageable 3rd down and distance.
Green + Yellow = Shallow Cross
Yellow + Purple = Trail
Red + Yellow = Mills
versus Cover 1 blitz (MLB will be 5th rusher)
#52 comes on the blitz up the B gap (Devey's right shoulder). #95 is holding onto Devey, preventing Devey from picking up the blitzer.
Impossible to know what the deep safety (blue) would have done if Kap was not pressured, perhaps he gains depth. But here is Kap would have been looking at - Shallow Cross is open, Mills about to become open (but not sure how deep safety would have played it).
Notice Devey trying to move to his right to get #52 (Matthews). +3 on the scramble. Punt.
Patton on the Post route had a step, I think. Hard to tell because Kap got pressured and that could have caused the safety to play this differently.

All of this just makes me want to vomit.
Kaep looks completely lost out there. He doesn't trust himself or what he's seeing. Terrible decision making. Caught up between wanting to run and not throw an INT.
This is sad. I think the plays are there, the concept is there. He's just not getting the job done.

this boy is as good as done if he cant even make this type of throws on a more or less consistent basis.

I haven't seen this one. That's a nice pocket from the Oline. He ran himself into a sack, never mind who was open
Boldin is open in front of the safety and behind the LB whose attention was on the RB. Kaep didn't have to look anywhere but down the middle .

So, Troy Aikman mentioned this on the broadcast, but wanted to highlight it. This is the INT....avert thine eyes if you're squeamish....8:30 4th qtr.
It's 3rd and 16 - which isn't easy, by any means...but it was there to be had!!!!! We're going to run a definite "sucker" concept on the bottom with Bush and Smith.
GB moves into a cover 3 zone. note the key defender on the "sucker" concept.
McD's route and Bush's route open up the "sucker" DIG route. Bear in mind, the 48 is the first down.
Kaep is pressured, but he just has to sidestep and sling it to TSmith. With the FS's attention that way, it also starts to create a 2v1 on the other side...
Kaep has a clean enough area to throw - but, he doesn't pull the trigger, and you see TSmith open, right at the 1st down...
Torrey is wide open in the middle of the field. On top of that, as CK starts his windup, you see how the corner abandoned Patton and he's standing there with his arms in the air...like, "DUUUUUUDE!!"
As he slings the ball, you see he had both TSmith and patton wide open....
Troy Aikman said on the broadcast, "I'm not sure why Kaepernick threw that ball, he had Torrey Smith wide open in the middle of the field".

That's our ID IMHO.
But on offense, you two and thl, perhaps you can help ID what our offense is. From 3 TE's in the first game to compliment Hyde's running game to very little Hyde last game, who are we offensively? Where do you see this evolving? You can see early on, they tried to get CK in an rhythm (killed by penalties and drops). But what is our ID now and where do you see it evolving too?
Til kap gets out of this funk, it's hard to know what we are on offense. It does seem like they are trying to get him going though.
Kap just looks busted right now. I think the only way to fairly grade the offense scheme and also the OL is to see how the offense looks with Gabbert. Again, I'm a kap guy but I'm very concerned and I'm afraid we might lose him as a viable starter.

this. according to this thread the staff did everything it was able to in order to establish some rhythm on offense. the players, kaep in particular, failed at execution.Originally posted by amosmac28:All of this just makes me want to vomit.

I think the HB route my be a wheel. Kinda fitting in with that drag-wheel thing we've been doing (big run vs Denver, play vs Pitt). It's kinda a variation on the shallow cross.
Looking again, this looks like that big run vs Denver.......mills with the drag-wheel.

That's how I feel as well. Gabbert might actually thrive in this current WCO so who knows. But this is extremely disheartening. But to Geep's credit (I take back my earlier comments that Geep was going full potato and not developing a QB-friendly offense), he WAS trying to get him some early stuff, some confidence builders, saw a pressure beater, etc. But then the RZ happens.

It's not fair to NOT make a change. He's just not seeing anything.
If we hit a FG in NY next week, I'll be surprised.
Nobody deserves this kind of play...

thought some might like a look at a "cover 3" pattern match from Nick Saban - one of the originators of the "pattern match" scheme while he was at the Browns as DC with Bellichick.

You are right. That's not a flat route, it's a wheel route by the RB. You and I have talked about this. Mills with a wheel route trailing behind. This is the third time we've seen this.
