My wife is an Aussie, so when I saw that Hayne was coming here, I spent at least 4 hours watching him play rugby. So here is what he brings to the table, you might want to write some of this down so you don't forget, assuming you don't have total recall.
He has played his entire life without the benefit of anyone blocking for him, so he has developed an ability to make sublte, almost imperceptible moves that get people just off balance enough (like a pitcher throwing a changeup) to run by a would be tackler almost as if by magic. His whole life and legendary status has been predicated on his ability to do this very thing. He shocked the nfl world in preseason making people miss look easy.
So the regular season starts and instead of trying to build up this high potential rookie's confidence, they play him less and less to the point where this talented buy is getting desperate to make a play to get him more playing time. 49ers did the exact same thing with LaMichael James, the guy that single handed made it not possible for Harbaugh and cardinals to beat Oregon, Is it just the insanity of the 49ers, doing the same thing over and over again expecitng different results?????
Wait, along comes a seasoned brilliant observer who states the obvious, "he is just wasting a roster spot"
"Lamontb" you sir are wasting paper which is more absurd than your comment that Jarryd Hayne is wasting a roster spot.
Any Aussies who think I am 100% correct in my observations give a good ole "aussie assie assie oi oi oi"
Jarryd hayne if used in a catch and lateral, play action pass, screen pass, statue of liberty or any one of another 50 options, instead of the few plays he was given to dive straight into a horrid line and guess what happend, he had very few positive yards and of course the coaches at that point were sure to have been overheard saying, see he's not a natural like the other rookie Mike Davis who couldn't remember the play last time they put him in.
Up and own the line from the idiot child savant president to the general manager down to the guy they named Head coach, atta boy Tomsula, are the niners s**ttin me that they are serious with their supposed ernest attempt to play nfl football.
As you might have guessed, my 62 years observing nfl football since I was just 8 years old has been well spent
Excellent post mate. It staggers me that people want to cut him given his pedigree and untapped talent. Its virtually like having a Ferrari in the garage but your too scared to drive it!! Even Roger Craig agrees just give him more gametime and stop playing the 'safe' card every week because its NOT working.

nice observations! can the coaches work around his lack of pass protection skills as a RB without being predictable? I think they are scared that if he comes on it means either they are showing their hand and if the defence blitzes he can't adjust quick enough? Still may not be an issue. Just because I know Marshawn is coming straight at me doesn't mean I can stop him.

I can tell you one thing, I would call a more effective offensive game than 3yards and a cloud of crap followed by 3 yards and a cloud dust. I was a pretty good athlete in my own right with an understanding of how to win. I learned more about winning and please don't laugh ( when I shot pool for money when I was in my 20's ) I called the game last shot, whoever got the last shot won, in fact, no metaphor. Playing football is about keeping your opponents off balance and my observation regarding Hayne was dead on. I replayed many of his runs in slow motion and it was almost impossible to observe exactly was subtle moves he was putting on people, a couple of times he gave them a limps leg , took it back but when you spend your whole freaking life just making people miss a tackle it literally transcends the ability of mere nfl idiots to get it. That is why he got all the press in preseason, he was mystifying people. Remember this, he didn't just make people miss, he ran by people going full speed ahead so when they didn't tackle him he had gotten upfield as if by magic. My wife hates football, but she loves her vegiemite and the sydney harbor.
Jack Clark, the University of California rugby coach who has won 26 national titles and played football himself said some things to back up my opinion that Haynes potential to set new standards was unprecedented. All you had to do was put him in situations that mimicked rugby, one guy open on the pitch, get him the ball. What about his ability to, for example lateral the ball across the field to another back, like bush, open field what do you do. The master of all that stuff was Barry Sanders, but hayne has skills that not even Barry had, I could go on and on. They get one of the premiere guys in the history of sport to ever touch a damned ball and what do they do. They call a dive into the line and then pat themselves on the back for being correct, he couldn't magically run through a freaking solid object.
I have never in my life seen a collection of grown men who coach a sport, supposedly in the know act as brain dead as these guys.
You all may have seen the espn special about the high school football coach who simply does't allow his team to punt on 4th down , ever, well he has won 3 state football championships defying the odds and his guys became really good on 4th down because you could never, ever, ever fathom what kind of a lame as play they were going to call and most of the time they worked. So much for football consensus and Tomsula calling for a punt on 4th down losing 20-3 in the 4th quarter.
Any body up for saying any of the above is stupid or misguided??????

I forgot to mention, which country of athletes are considered the best sportsmen in the world, if you guessed Aussies, you are correct. Best being good sports, you play em , you beat em and they say, good on ya mate.

If anyone doesn't agree with Keith's points about how effective Hayne can be to gain yardage via his running they are either a moron or from florida. Coaches know that too. Coaches also know the PR fumbles will be fixed. What's harder to fix is the lack of blitz reads and the QB sacks without telegraphing Hayne is either going to run or receive. In a pass dominated league not too many coaches want to have their pass options limited to accommodate a running threat.
keithhr makes sense to me. Encouraging for fans who have seen all the electrifying moves he was able to put on against some fierce, talented defense. As spectacular as the Hayne NRL highlights are, out of the context of whole, pressure-cooker games, they don't show the full extent of his ability. We've talked about it endlessly, hoping the fairytale would naturally progress towards legend status. But we all need a bit of luck. Hayne got a bit during the pre-season, enough that he avoided fumbling or too many other rookie mistakes. The luck deserted him a little with a couple of flubs, but the wheel will turn.
For a few of us the faith has started to waiver a little as the couching tries to squeeze him into a smaller and smaller box and they can't seem to come up with a single play that matches his genius and the niners get pummeled each week and CK runs hot and cold and some of the 'faithful' come in to bag him or troll and Carlos gets injured and they can't risk Hayne and etc.
Very reassuring I'm not going a bit mad trying to decipher the machinations of it all when I read posts like the above from an experienced 'local'.
Pressure must be building inside HQ, lets hope it doesn't implode before they finally get at least a tiny bit creative and give him some gametime to show us this alleged genius. The learning curve is steep for him but the downward arc of the niners fortunes surely must intersect it somewhere.

zero fumbles from scrimmage - both preseason and regular
A solid 3.4ypc at RB although this is a very small sample
He is 13th in the league with a 9.5 return ave for PR, the rest of the team is 5.8. Beating the wonder boy that is tyler lockett comfortably
The "3" fumbles was more like 1 actual ball security, the other 2 were simply the wrong move caused by inexperience and his first ever touch so was no doubt nervous - not unexpected for a guy playing in their first 10 games EVER. If you expect perfection from a rookie, then you will be sorely disappointed.
Overall he has done quite a bit from extremely limited opportunity when you actually break it down - There is obviously lots to improve on, but to say he has done nothing and doesn't deserve a spot is ignorant at worst and naive at best. If he was cut tomorrow you can bet another team would sign him.
thinking the 'wonder boy' deal comes from TL's versatility and production . . .
only the second Seahawks to have punt return, kick-off, receiving TD's in the same season.

There has been talk of the 49ers playing a pre-season game in Sydney.
Hayne, unless he butchers his next opportunity, will be a part of this team for at least a couple seasons.
I'm thinking the coachs might have been thinking they rushed him into the starting team a little too quick. A lot of pressure for a noob.

Keep Hayne returning punts. I don't see what the big decision is.
Line spread wide. CK takes off right shapes to throw to a decoy right, pivots to the left and drills Hayne on the numbers. That would be tailor made for CK, in and out in 3 seconds. Hayne goes hard left, receives and straightens, dukes (whatever he does) through spaces, because there are spaces. 1st down+. Mirror image to the right but fake to RB going left; same result.
That is one thing I'd do with Jarryd Hayne. Love to here some more creative Hayne play calls.

If 49ers tried to trade Hayne they would get a cheeseburger in return,he's worth nothing.
maybe get a barrysandwich although i heard theyre not worth anything.
