What to do with Jarryd Hayne?

The problem is, often when a new Aussie member signs up, arguments that have been done to death here get trotted out all over again. It's a bit hard for them to know though, as the old thread was locked and both it and the new one are far too large to go back and read for a new member.

Yep, nearly 1000 pages combined v1 and v2. And you could sum it up pretty quickly.

1. He's a rookie that needs more game time.

2. He has plenty of potential but we have to be patient

3. Most. but not all Americans think he's overrated and won't make it.

4.The coaches don't trust him yet but know he is a gifted player and probably see him as a long term special.

I like Hayne and think he has a place, but he had to learn the pass blocking aspect of the game If he wants to be a HB. He was a part of the numbers game last weak because we didn't know if Hyde was going to make it through the game. We had to have backs that could block if he went down.

I keep reading he hasn't picked up pass pro and is missing blocks. I can think of one where there was a missed block but I'm not convinced it was his fault.

Someone please detail all these missed blocks.

Pretty concise and spot on summary. We almost need a "New Aussie Members Guide to the Zone" flyer covering all the pitfalls to hand out, haha.

People seem smitten with the seachooks and Pete Carroll's supposed desire to make Hayne a "featured player" if he went there. Honestly, that talk was likely just gamesmanship, an attempt to f**k with Hayne/Niners leading into the game. Suppose Hayne hears of Carroll's comment and goes out there thinking, "I'll show this guy how right he is", whether to spite him or to put on a belated demonstration performance, overdoes things and has a shocker, helping the opposition win? You never know in this league, there's so much cloak and dagger.

Better just quietly hoping for some more Hayne over the rest of the year and hope he's still in the league next season, one way or another.

That was Devey's miss, watch coaches film. He has been pretty sound on blocking assignments. Hyde fell off his block and allowed a sack two games ago and fumbled twice last week. We'll conveniently ignore that though and only find the answer we want right?

Hyde has played this game most of his life and even he struggles to pick of pass blocking. It's a tough skill and really can't be learned in the time Hayne has played. It takes a lot of time, Hayne in his snaps has seen a small fraction of the blitz types he will need to learn to pick up. It just not that easy, even our college guys coming from the NCAA struggle with pass pro as rookies.

Yeh he has said his experienced vision helps pick.up.players but this is still the hardest thing for him to master.

Yeah great summary Newk. I want Hayne to hang in with the 49ers and do his apprenticeship. Every time I see the argument :

'you don't know what you have in Hayne. If you gave him more time...'

It annoys me. Arrogance. Broken record. Good way to alienate just about every dyed in the wool 49er here. I want to get on with the natives, not be prejudged because of what some motor mouth halfwit keeps blowing out of their arse.

That release Hayne to the sea chooks thread today. Glad it was locked. What a joke.

I'm not sure if I'm getting what you're saying with this post, but I hope I didn't seem like I was saying people shouldn't express their opinion. It's more the apprehension of the ruckus that often ensues when we see similar comments to the ones that drew ire from some and contributed to the V1 thread being locked.

I don't have any dramas with this poll at all, I reckon it's good and I'm glad they reopened it.

Let me know if I'm having a moment and not seeing the forest for the trees here mate.

Nah mate just backing up.what you were saying

Cheers mate, I'm obviously too tired to be on here.
I would like to Jarryd get more snaps in RB it's an exciting position, next to Kaep with the play calls, maybe moving the ball forward, this is why us Aussies are so energised about Jarryd playing. Not knocking what a punter can do but I wouldn't have bought a ticket to see Ben Graham or Sav Rocca kick a footy 4 times a game you know what will happen, he will kick it but with Jarryd he is running the ball into the line and through to maybe a TD, exciting stuff
but remember at training he is in front of the Head coach, the Offense coach taking first runs of the teams game plan when Hyde can't train they know what they are seeing in these drills. He will get more work when ready.
Go Niners.

He just wasting a roster spot
"lamontb" how did this brilliant idea work it's way into your mind, ( is that what you are calling it) You've written a lot of posts but I'm guessing you have absolutely no knowledge of what it might take to be a good football player. My wife is an Aussie, so when I saw that Hayne was coming here, I spent at least 4 hours watching him play rugby. So here is what he brings to the table, you might want to write some of this down so you don't forget, assuming you don't have total recall.
He has played his entire life without the benefit of anyone blocking for him, so he has developed an ability to make sublte, almost imperceptible moves that get people just off balance enough (like a pitcher throwing a changeup) to run by a would be tackler almost as if by magic. His whole life and legendary status has been predicated on his ability to do this very thing. He shocked the nfl world in preseason making people miss look easy.
So the regular season starts and instead of trying to build up this high potential rookie's confidence, they play him less and less to the point where this talented buy is getting desperate to make a play to get him more playing time. 49ers did the exact same thing with LaMichael James, the guy that single handed made it not possible for Harbaugh and cardinals to beat Oregon, Is it just the insanity of the 49ers, doing the same thing over and over again expecitng different results?????
Wait, along comes a seasoned brilliant observer who states the obvious, "he is just wasting a roster spot"
"Lamontb" you sir are wasting paper which is more absurd than your comment that Jarryd Hayne is wasting a roster spot.
Any Aussies who think I am 100% correct in my observations give a good ole "aussie assie assie oi oi oi"
Jarryd hayne if used in a catch and lateral, play action pass, screen pass, statue of liberty or any one of another 50 options, instead of the few plays he was given to dive straight into a horrid line and guess what happend, he had very few positive yards and of course the coaches at that point were sure to have been overheard saying, see he's not a natural like the other rookie Mike Davis who couldn't remember the play last time they put him in.
Up and own the line from the idiot child savant president to the general manager down to the guy they named Head coach, atta boy Tomsula, are the niners s**ttin me that they are serious with their supposed ernest attempt to play nfl football.
As you might have guessed, my 62 years observing nfl football since I was just 8 years old has been well spent

You sir, are the man
What ive never heard or seen before is training with the opposition?!? Wtf?!? Theres your strengths and weaknesses laid out bare like a salesman selling his wares. From this fact both teams must have some idea whose got the potential to win and who hasnt. Doesnt that cause anxiety among the lesser players or team? Maybe everyones familiar with that but i just find it wierd, and anyway how long has this team co-operation been going on? Is it a recent thing, is it really that important or vital? Wouldnt it be better if both sides just dont know each other until game time when players and tactics come
to fruition? Just sayin......

I have no problem with the poll either. I was all for it discussing it with sticks after the thread was locked. I asked the mods why it was locked and it magically unlocked. I just wish we could get people's opinions without the hyenas getting stuck in. Look at the total poll count. Isn't much for how long it's been going. There'd be a percentage of natives that couldn't be bothered with this thread just so they don't have to mix it up with the hyenas. Looking at comments on the dodo thread that was locked today, a few of the posters have Hayne overload. Some can't believe the s**t fight whenever someone disagrees with the Hayne hyperdrive.

Except that even Keith is saying the same thing about how good Hayne is and wanting to see him with more game time. He is one of these 'dyed in the wool 49ers'. If it annoys you don't read it. Problem solved. Not all of us want to see him wasting away on the sidelines or in PS 'polishing' his skills while most of the team are doing sweet fa and losing every week.
