What to do with Jarryd Hayne?

Go watch Haka on youtube, there are some classic bits of intimidation there!
Oh, when Hyde gets back from having his foot examined, and Bush taps out, get ready for a dose, of the Hayne, Davis duo!

Considering Hayne has fumbled 3 times in 6 games

See that's what the stat sheet shows but in reality that's not how it is. You have to dig deeper.

Only 1 of those fumbles was a ball security issue and as we saw with hyde/gore this year and pretty much any other RB can happen to anyone, The other 2 were bad decisions brought about by inexperience (unsurprisingly) including the first touch ever. He is yet to fumble from scrimmage at all including the 30 carries in preseason.

He still has the best hands out of any of the backs, bush included.

The only way to find out what you have here is to play him a significant time - 15+ carries a game. This also stops hyde from being killed, bush wont be here next year either. The niners have a chance to have hayne ready to go next seasons with a year of nfl experience, strong, tough, hungry with a excellent all round skill set.
He could be extremely productive next year, but they need to lay the ground work now, especially since the season looks to be just about over

Let's keep this thread about Hayne as a 49er. Not about rugby leagues, AUS vs USA, or other miscellaneous topics. If it becomes a general chat room type thread, I'll merge with the other Hayne thread. Thanks, all.

can he kick one of those awesome rugby punts, the ones that go all sideways and bounce erratically?

Play him, see what we have, with an eye towards next season. Also, run a play where he kicks the ball to himself, cause thats f**king rad!

I think conservative NFL men will have a heart attack if that happens

See Glen Coffee, Korey Sheets and Clayton Thomas.

Let him go

Mid season or end of season? Would you get a better RB or PR/RB hybrid?

Bush will be gone next year, Patton could be gone, Ellington can't stay healthy, and White has been decent.

Keep him and see how he progresses.

How would you play him if you keep him?

Hayne absolutely needs more game time and more ball in his hands. apart from the first one his fumbles are forgivable. We are not dealing with a rookie but a proven superstar from a related sport. He is a big game player, used to pressure and being targeted. The more Hayne has the ball in his hands the more points we will score! Give him more ball at RB.

Hayne is the rookiest rookie in the whole team

Yeh on one hand the biggest rookie never playing the game on the other hand a experienced athlete in big event exposure and some cross over skills

Its amazing the importance of every touch. If he gets another one a bad play will lead towards more cut him talk a good one and I think many will get back on the bandwagon. So much pressure, really an intense game.

Hayne Vs Davis...who has more to offer?

Good results in PreSeason may not be a predictor of success in regular season
but if you give 2 players in the same position equal reps you should be able to make some comparisons.
During the preseason Hayne looked more dangerous than Davis and equal to Hyde in production.
Blocking is the obvious weakness for Hayne but in preseason Kap looked fragile no matter who was pass blocking.
Cut Hayne. Rams will sign him for insider info on the playbook.

Should be easy to memorize I heard its 2 pages long

I'm not reading the previous 5 pages..

but Hayne is a project, he put on pads for the first time less than 3 months ago, he's shown more than enough since then

I'd like to see our future coaching staff use him in more screen plays, more short throws (like we use Bruce in) - he has good hands and is used to playing in open space

I'm not saying he'll be as good as Sproles, but that's the way we should be using him
