Kaep damaged after the Cards game. That 2 pick 6's have never happened to him before. Don't know how to get over and deal with that yet. Where as Gabbert had everything that could go bad went bad in Jacksonville. Been there done that, he seems to be over it after sitting for close to 2 years.

This draw play was horribly blocked even though it went for +30. Boone allows his block to spin off him. Martin heads up field too quickly and that's the defender that smacks Draughn at the LoS.

He has no room to step up in the pocket and has to throw the ball off his back foot - but the ball comes out super quick. It's less than 1.5 seconds. Think of the Rams game - we had a very similar play where Kaep held the ball longer and threw it out of reach for Bush. http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/niners/183747-week-st-louis-rams-coaches-film-analysis/page7/
A nice hot read there. 5 rushers versus 5 blockers (4.5 if you account for how crappy Martin is), get rid of that ball asap. Will need to do this versus SEA. Difference is their LBs are lightning quick and swarm to limit RAC. I liked each of Draughn's 4 catches - 2 on circle routes, and you showed 2 to the flat on checkdowns. I don't know what to make of us being excited about dumpoffs to the RB.
It's not hard to beat cover 3 with underneath routes or all goes. The hard part is beating a team as talented as SEA that are very good at keeping the yards after the catch to a minimum. Most of the time I have seen them give up big plays are mainly on one on one deep balls.

Kam and Wagner really lock down the short passes. Need to do something to get them off the receiver.

Yeah horrible tackle. Should have been stopped for no gain. Without that run Draughn had 15 carries for 28 yards 1.9 ypc. Atlanta does have the 2nd ranked run D.

Kap would've taken a sack no doubt, lol

Kap is allergic to check downs.

I hope that's the case. Really what does Gabbert have to lose ? Everyone was bashing prior to the game and they're still snickering at him. Let it fly Blaine. FTW

If they give up the short passes, then take it. That might compensate the running game. That's how the Patriots moved the ball on them. Dink and dunk. Then occasionally there's a miss tackle on Seattle. The idea is to limit the mistakes as you string those 3-5 yds together. We have the horses with speed this year in Torrey and Simpson. Ironic that VD wasn't his former self anymore since he was the speed guy that we have depended upon.

Dontae Johnson had two break ups on targets to Julio Jones in the game. One was in the endzone which has been discussed, but I thought this one was more impressive because he had to make a read on the play, not just use his athletic ability like the endzone play where he was matched up 1v1.
Cover 3 vs Sucker concept (variation)
The red Curl is designed to attract Hodges (51, hook defender) which will give a throwing lane to Julio. 49ers show a cover2 look.

Reid rotates down as the curl/flat defender. DJ starts to bail and does not get baited into staying with the wideout, Roddy White who runs a little hitch.

DJ is reading the QB the entire way as he bails, paying special attention to Julio. Hodges gets drawn to the Curl in front of him. There is a nice window to Julio. Ryan is mid windup.

Good closing speed and read of the play.

How did he know not to stay with White? Was he reading Ryan? At the snap, he's not even looking like he's worried about the outside at all.

DJs assignment is deep 1/3 so it would be a mistake to even think about staying close to Roddy. What I like is he identified where Julio was and was very wary of what Julio was doing. That allowed DJ to get a good break on the throw. You can see from the endzone view that DJ doesn't bail straight back, he starts to curve towards Julio while watching Ryan.

lol, have you read thl's explanation, bro? ^^
However, I think that Tarrt would have arrived for a tackle at time.

Oh ok, cause he knows he has Reid to rotate out to White if need to and he can adjust back to White to at least make the tackle if White some how gets the pass and get past Reid....is that correct?
