I also agree that Blaine had a pocket, I'm wondering if the one guy that came off the drag caught his eye and he thought he didn't have the pocket it looks like.

This is on ARI's opening drive of the second half where they end it with a TD, aided by 3 penalties in the red zone.

ARI combines a Pin concept (yellow + purple) with a three level flood (yellow + orange + green).
The 49ers are running some sort of cover 4, but I can't be sure because someone blows an assignment (or two). The 4th rusher is disguised, is Wilhoite (red)

Both safeties come up to follow the TE coming across the middle. The TE caught a total of one pass for 9 yards on the day.

Both safeties leave their deep zones and Brock has outside leverage trying to defend a deep post. That's not good for Brock.

Not sure if the safeties are supposed to do this or if one, or both of them eff'ed up. The pass floated a bit and Brock might have been able to play this better. +48 yards.

This is on the drive after ARI's TD, the big play to Bell.

The 49ers have run this play a number of times this season with good results.
Shallow Cross (yellow + purple) and Curl-Flat (red + orange) concepts vs Cover 1 robber

Gabbert completes his drop and looks to the curl-flat. As Bell crosses the face of the two defenders in the middle, neither of them cover Bell. There is confusion as to which one was supposed to pick up Bell.

Gabbert breaks pocket contain and starts to roll to his right. He does a good job of keeping full vision of the field and finds Bell wide open on the other side of the field. The blue CB just pulled a calf muscle and won't be able to give chase.

RAC it up. +48 yards.

It's a miracle. A screen pass for over 10 yards.

+12. Good timing and selling of the play by Pears. Gets downfield and makes a block.

After the Vance touchdown, the 49ers would force a punt on the ensuing ARI drive by playing more sticky man coverage.
Cover 1 blitz. Bow is the 5th rusher

Good coverage all around as Palmer completes his drop. AA comes on a loop and is about to apply pressure.

Palmer has to get rid of the ball and targets the In route versus Acker.

Incomplete. Punt.

On the next 49er drive (ends with FG). This is the play before the deep bomb to Torrey.

3Q 2nd & 10
Trail concept vs Cover 1 blitz
The progression on this play is right to left (orange-red-yellow).

Gabbert completes his drop, and in this picture, has already moved to his second read, Torrey. This pulls the deep safety away from the middle of the field.

Gabbert going through progressions.

By hitting all three progressions - from right to left - it naturally moves the deep safety who is reading Gabbert's eyes. This opens up the middle of the field for Boldin.

The playaction stalls the pass rush. Good pocket.

+17 yards.

This needs like it's own thread, maybe pinned at the top to commemorate the occasion of completing an actual screen pass.

Smiley emoji will suffice though.

A completed screen against a blitz!!!!

I think Gabbert and the entire offense would benefit from a entire offseason of building chemistry.

It would be more efficient building chemistry with Gabbert. The entire offseason with Kaep is dedicated to the whole offense trying to figure out where the f**k he is on each and every play.

LOL, they essentially ran the same play on us that we ran on them for the deep ball to Torrey. Exact same reaction from the Safeties by both defenses. The first 3rd down sack in FG range on our first drive was a HUGE no-no on Gabbert. BIG mistake. Although the routes were covered, he had plenty of time to make protected throw. Should have pulled a Kap and protected the throw and stayed in FG range.
Thl, could you please breakdown the 3rd and long short dump off to QP? Or just let me know if that was Gabbert's first read, or where the play was designed to go? If and when you get time. Thanks.

Was this play, or no?

Was this that motion pop pass? If it was, I think Patton is the only read....it's essentially a run, but gets credited as a pass because its a forward lateral. West Virginia under Dana Holgerson uses this type of pass a ton.
