Hope Mangini doesn't call this defense on this play against R. Wilson. He'll escape to the right. Throw it down the sideline. TD

Thankfully, we've already lost 2 against SEA so we won't have to see them again this year. I'm just wondering if we'll go 0-6 conference record this year. Winning!

Rams are pretty bad on offense. Way D has played at home the 9ers will likely win week 17.

We know about the penalties, some deserved, some soft, but this was the most b******ttiest of the b******t calls.
Score is 13-10 49ers trailing and they are driving down the field. This drive had the bomb to Torrey.
Double slants vs Cover 1 blitz
Where Vance lines up does have to do with running a rub (interference). A rub on the defender covering Boldin.
Gabbert looks strongside.
Mid windup. The defender on Vance has his hands all over Vance.
Offensive pass interference. dafuq?
Instead of 3rd & 4 (+6 to Bell), it's 3rd & 14. Maybe it doesn't matter on a day the 49ers were 0 for 9 on 3rd downs, but the call itself was so weak. Even the color commentator had to say it was a bad call. 49ers end up kicking a FG to tie.
That looks pretty close to within the 5 yard rule. The ball was on the 23? The defender held until the 15-16 yd line. I know it's BS, but I don't think they are going to call that unless there's a jersey pull.
Nice decisive decision by Gabbert. He could've easily waited too long for McD to break thru.
the penalty was called on the offense, vance for 'offensive interference'
lol this passing motion reminds me of jto sullivan

Here's the final set of downs. ARI came with blitz pressure, then more blitz pressure. If they were going to lose, it was going to be doing what they do best - blitz and play man coverage.
Mirrored Smash concepts vs Cover 1 blitz
The two Corner routes can work to force the cover 1 safety to choose one side to help on. It's Boldin and Vance running the Corners, not very speedy.
Instead of waiting for the Corner routes to possibly become open, Gabbert targets the short Curl since the CB was playing with a 7 yard cushion.
Pass dropped.

2nd down
Double Slants vs Cover 1 blitz
5 step timing. Mid windup. Gabbert goes for the big play with Torrey Smith vs Patrick Peterson on a Fade up the sideline. All game long PP had shadowed Torrey with success.
(below) Breakdown PP's technique which was on point.
1: press alignment, head on (no shade)
2. Mirror technique, no bump as PP opens his hips to the sideline and gives Torrey the outside release.
3. PP might look like his legs are crossed, but his hips are pointed upfield, so he's actually running 'straight'. His knees, hips, and the direction that he's running are all inline. It's just his torso that is turned.
4. Start putting that outside shoulder right into Torrey's chest and edge Torrey towards the sideline. This is the moment (19 yard line) Torrey turns his head to the ball.
5. Not even two yards later, PP has his head turned. With his outside shoulder (and arm) 'feeling' Torrey, PP is in perfect position to play the ball.
Torrey almost highpoints the ball, but PP places his hands in between Torrey's hands, preventing the catch.
Ball is already released here, but the blitz was picked up well and Gabbert had some time to let the slants develop. Vance had the middle to work.
Incomplete

3rd Down
Fade-Out (orange + yellow) vs Cover 0. 6 blockers vs 7 rushers (numbered).
Notice the CB on Patton is shaded to the inside. CBs playing cover0, especially slot CBs will look to take away the inside area of the field. Patton's route should work with Boldin's route running some interference.
Gabbert takes the snap and sees that the deep safety is vacating the deep zone to run up and cover Vance, since #5 is blitzing. It's a triple A gap blitz. 7 takes one A gap, 6 takes the other. Both are picked up.
With no safety, Gabbert checks to see if Torrey is a possible target, he's not.
Instead of looking back to the strongside, Gabbert looks at the rush. #5 is coming unblocked. There simply isn't enough blockers to account for all the blitzers. Cover0 has this numbers advantage.
Same moment as pic above. The window to the Out (Patton) is still partially open because the CB on Patton was playing with such a large cushion.
Caught looking at the rush. Sacked for -10.

It looks like the offensive line is improving, playing better overall in this game. On at least a couple of these, Gabbert had time to go to a better option on a later developing route.
He had the TE easy down the middle on both of these plays.

The first play, yes and he should have read the safety but it seemed like it was more of a "hell, let's give Torrey a jump ball and see if we get it.".
The second play, not enough time to get that ball to the TE.

I thought so too. Giving Torrey a chance for the ball.
