Torrey Smith catches 72 passes for 1432 yards and 10 TDs.

Jackson & Maclin averaged 1,325 (83 a game) in Philly over three years. It should be interesting to see if Smith can come close to that (not likely).

5. The Webzone writhes in helpless fury when this year's winner of the Kory Sheets/Nate Davis/B. J. Daniels Preseason Darling Award gets summarily cut on Cut-Down Day.

I wonder who will win this award this year. Who are the candidates?

Here's the difference, teams had to worry about both maclin and Jackson, here it's smith and who else? Teams are not gonna let Torrey beat them deep and will focus on him until someone comes out of nowhere and consistently shows up weekly

Did they play together much? Thought it was more one after the other?

But yeah, to your point, Torrey will be the primary target but guys like Simpson outside and Ellington are going to have to draw attention as well to KEEP Torrey going.

I think maclin was the man for 1 year but if I'm not mistaken they brought in Jordan Matthews to go with maclin for that year and him as a rookie is better than what we have outside of smith.

I gotcha, man. Yeah, having a bigger body in Jordan (6'3" 210) outside is exactly why I think Simpson starts outside with Torrey and Ellington inside. We'll see though...could be a surprise guy like DiAndre Campbell too. Potentially Patton even. Either way, historically, the 3 and 4 in Kelly's offense is on the field 60% of the time.

It's not obvious this year, but perhaps it's easier if we put some rules in the competition first.

1. The champ must totally crush it in the pointless bits of pre-season, i.e. 4th quarter of Games 1-2 and the last three quarters of Game 4. We need a third stringer at best.

2. It can't be an unsexy position. WZ darlings are either in skill offensive positions, or glory-stat defenders (i.e. LBs who get sacks, DBs who get picks). No OLinemen or NTs.

3. It can't be a retread veteran or a high pick from this year. It can be a second year low-rounder who got little attention last year. It can also be a graduate of the Baalke College of ACL Survivors. So, Lemonier is out of consideration, even if he gets 7 sacks in preseason. Smelter is the obvious candidate. Busta is another one.

4. Ideally, the winner either gets unceremoniously cut, or gets shut down in IR, or holds a clipboard for the whole season, or spends the season in the Inactive Seven. We're thinking Sheets and Trey Millard types here.

Driskel is by far the favourite to win it this year. Nothing against the kid, and I actually think he makes it as I don't think we risk going with only two QBs behind our sieve of an OL, but I cringe when I think of the outpouring of man-love come the third quarter of preseason game 2.

Other obvious areas are a fifth string RB gashing 4th Quarter preseason defences (either Taylor or Harris), a bubble DB that keeps picking off 4th string QBs (Prince Charles is the obvious one here), and of course a receiver (or even TE) who breaks off a couple of huge gains by beating UDFA corners in pre-season game 4 (aka "The Pointless Game"). Most of the 4th string WRs already have groupies here, but how about a TE? I'll go with Busta.

It's harder for front seven players make noise in the preseason and actually be useless in real games. Purcell last year did great in preseason, and he was actually allright (in a terrible team) when the real bullets started flying. Perhaps a 5th string LB can get the Webzone all hot and gooey by sacking San Diego's 6th string QB twice. Fanaika?

Kaepernick wears a suicide vest to October 2 game vs "America's Team", on 4th and 30 scrambles into Dallas sideline and detonates

We beat Seattle in Seattle week 3. I liked the way Blaine played vs them last year and that was with a horrendous system, patchwork Oline, back up running backs and inept coaching staff. Our revamped Oline, a healthy Hyde (knock on wood) and better coaching may finally be enough combined with Blaine's natural ability to take what they give him (seems to be the way to beat Seattle). You heard it here first folks (unless someone else said it and I'm just being too lazy to go back and see).

WEEK 3 WIN AT SEATTLE

Seriously, that's not even funny.
Kap replaces Gab by the 3rd game.

He is injured during that game for the whole season and we're on the hook for all that loot.

We lose every game and get the #1 pick.

We get our franchise QB.
