Funchess was shut down at denver, Benjamin is a threat. I think we would have a shot with lynch but we lack the pressure atm

im more worried about our secondary this game

Why? Carolina was 24th is passing yards last year and #2 in rushing.

THIS!

Can we dedicate tomorrow's film analysis to CAR DEN game?

I might get to it tomorrow, it might be Friday. There's a couple more things I'd like to highlight, but it's almost 11 my time. Scouting takes just about as long as our own teams breakdown. But, I will see what I can see :)
Always my favorite thread in NT
Steve Young was on the Tom Tolbert show today on KNBR (it's available on their podcasts in Itunes). He echoed the same things that johnnydel and thl talked about, so you know these guys are legit!

He said Blaine makes the correct reads, but hesitates to pull the trigger due to abuse suffered before, and he needs to "re-learn" how to be aggressive. The inaccuracy stems from poor body mechanics that are inconsistent. However, the Vance TD shows how he CAN be accurate, but all the f**ked up other throws (one hopper to Torrey) showed how his footwork was messed up.

Some more 3rd down defense. 3Q 3rd & 5

Tavon Austin (orange) motions across the formation to form the bunched trips. Rams will try to get a three level high-lo read. 49ers will blitz Tartt and Bethea off the edge. One of the DL on the other side will dropback from his three point stance.

The RB slides over to the right side of the OL to provide pass pro.

The 49ers rushed 5. Rams have 7 to block, and Tartt still rushes in free.

Notice all the action going on and how the 49ers were still able to pull off an overloaded blitz. 49ers match up to the three level hi-low route combo. Ward with his head on a swivel is able to read the QB and provide help on the intermediate route (yellow) with a pass breakup. Incomplete.

Yes it is. I love that he doesn't check down to Draughn here, who will be open right in front of him but there are 3 defenders ready to stop him well short of the goalline. He patiently waits for McDonald's route to develop, turns, and delivers a perfect strike for the TD. We need more of this from him.

I miss Pears, Devey and Martin. They weren't used properly.

Besides committing more numbers closer to the LoS, there are stunts that can help defend the inside zone run. This is called the Nut Stunt and it's done by the 1tech.

Red is the path the 1tech would normally take. Yellow is what the nut stunt is as he swaps 'A' gaps with the LB behind him (orange).

The 1tech has swapped A gaps and caused a jam that prevents Beadles (68) from getting to the next level, which keeps orange clean.

Orange into the A gap that was vacated by the 1tech.

No gain.

One thing you have to like about Gabbert: he seems to have the exact kind of attitude & work ethic you want from your QB.

...But then again, so did Tebow. Let's hope he has a little more innate ability to throw completions.

Yeah they should have been used properly as benchwarmers.

Here's a play that spreads the field. This is a variant of the Hank concept that uses three Curls and two Flat routes to place a WR at all parts of the field. This forces zone defenders to cover more area.
vs Tampa 2

The read is the Curl over the middle of the field (82), then progress towards the sidelines. The Hook defenders will determine which sideline to progress towards. By dropping back and looking at his first read (82), orange follows Gabbert's eyes.

This gets 82 covered, but now Patton is open. Gabbert mid windup.

I think that does it. Let me know if there's a certain play you'd like to see cut up. Fun looking at a 49ers win. Let's hope there's more of it. Defense was awesome this game regardless of the lowly Rams offense is. So many Ram '3 and outs'. That was a dominating defensive performance.
thanks for this thread! so educating!

Thx for your service kind sir. Btw did we count how many bad throws Gabbert had and at what time it was his last.

Also, do you think he's at his peak in this system and himself?
Thanks guys, tremendous read, as always.

Just a question:
Would you mind to name a few players who performed VERY good and mention the underwhelming ones?
