Noteable because RayRay properly pattern matches here and it helps to blow up the play. This is a WR screen where the drag route is the only viable target. The Trips side of the formation is blocking for him.

RayRay sees the Drag and matches it before it crosses his face, which is important. All WRs in red are looking for blocks.

The combination of RayRay covering the drag, and Brooks' edge pressure forces Keenum to hold the ball.

AA gets the sack.

How is that not a hold on tank?

Coaching is the hope though. I remember reading an interview with Walsh and he said his philosophy was if you could do it once, you could then practice it and do it consistently. I know most of the WCO tree guys believe this. Hopefully at some point Blaine could put it all together consistently. However, I'm not holding my breathe.

It's the old baseball adage that if you show a tool you own it.

I'll be happy if he show the tools to a degree that he just can be average. Give us Alex in 2011.

The 49ers seemed to have a jump on most of the Rams run plays. Here is Bow's nice TFL.

This is a new personnel group for the 49ers. Eli subbed out for a DB for a 3-3-5 look, but the DB is Tartt. It's used to match up against the Rams 12 (1rb/2/te/2wr). Tartt is not the box safety/LB that some of us thought he'd be. Playing closer to the LoS - that player is Reid. Tartt is one of the deep safeties and actually rotates to Cover1 depth as Bethea rotates down (not shown). Tartt the deep safety and Reid the box safety...

Most of the game, the 49ers have been going with a shifted front with their 3 DLmen. Rarely were they in the standard 4-0-4 technique where the NT is over the Center with the two DEs over the Tackles. In this game, the Center and one of the Guards were always covered (on possible running downs). This makes it harder to run up the middle.
Split zone

Bow jumps the play and shoots the gap. Bow jukes the Center to avoid him.

I'm with you but Hydes a beast running. The drop off between Bow and Ray Ray/ hodges is too big

Good stuff guys. Thank you so much for the time and effort

My confidence in Gabbert stays the same coming into this season. These offensive breakdowns reconfirmed my optimism.

Let's go Gabbert and the offense

Excellent post JD.

Good call on Kilgore - way under-rated IMO.
