How do you expect a DL to push with a bum shoulder?

If he can't be effective out there due to injury, he shouldn't be playing. If he is playing, it must be because the coaching staff believes he is healthy enough to perform.

One problem... He is not "sucking".

Your definition of sucking must be different than mine. Mine means he's not playing well, not getting to the passer, not stopping the run. So if he's not doing his job then I think he is sucking.

You realized you just used pff right? PFF is s**t. Purcell was getting pushed around all game too but somehow he magically has a high rating lol.

Then don't play him, Justin smith played a lot with a bum shoulder. This guy is on his way to being a big time bust.

And he had a giant drop off in production.

The INT he had wasn't his fault, the ball was right where the receiver would want it, Patton simply blew it. I really hated a number of the play calls. I think Modkins hit it right on the head in his presser when he said they have to give their guys a better plan and a better situation. There were a number of designed play calls that were just bad ideas. I don't care who would've been our QB in this game, I don't think we win. We could've had Steve Young under center and I don't think we win this game.

didn't do anything to lose the game? How about converting 1st downs? Helping our defense to rest, TO FEEL MOTIVATED TO STAY IN THE GAME. How about waiting for something else to be open than hitting the first short pass he feels comfortable with

of course you don't care who could've been the QB this game. The point is, we don't know what could've happened. BUT what we do know, is Gabbert continues to play as the worse Starting QB in the League.

I got to get back to work.. I'll edit it this later....
The defense gave up a TD in 3 plays on the first drive of the game - they then gave up another TD the very next drive - yet that's on the offense?? C'mon, man. How many teams you know get down to Seattle 14-0 in the first quarter and win in Seattle??

Personally, I was going to be WAY more harsh to Chip in my OP than I was. I thought our game-plan was absolute garbage. Seattle snuffed out so many of our plays it wasn't even funny. His offense was exposed for what it has been - too simple and relies too much on misdirection.

I'll give you this shot - you can analyze this and tell me what should've happened:

This was 3rd and 4 - Seattle has a free rusher at Gabbert off the RT because Brown screwed up - where does he go with the ball to get a 1st??

No one is running a deep enough rout.

We have no alternative. I would rather shut him down, but it's not my call.

Thank you for your work and this film. Your analysis, particularly on play design and selection is pretty much in line with what I said in the passing game thread.

I see 2 already at the marker or beyond it. But if you want to say that we are worst team in the league on 3rd down because our receivers don't run past the marker well...I'll disagree with you.

I just watched the 1st half to see what the 49ers were trying to do since 2nd half was all garbage time. I agree most of the passing game was centered around horizontally stretching the underneath zones. Makes sense to avoid sacks, and avoid having Gabbert throw downfield to WRs that can't win. Sherman owned Torrey last season and continued to in this game as he shadowed Torrey around the field. The 49ers had some manageable 3rd downs early in the game and failed to move the chains.

3rd & 7 (pass fail)
3rd & 3 (run, Tiller pulls and misses a block; punt)
3rd & 4 (missed read by Gabbert)
3rd & 4 (near goaline; well defended)

I saw two plays where the 49ers ran into an 8 man box while having single coverage out wide. I thought Chip wanted to play the numbers game and only run when it was favorable in the box. I think having a bad QB and a bad WR corp changes that logic. 49ers lead the league in number of '3 and outs', and have one of the lowest 'average plays per drive' in the league. Forgot where I heard that, but I'mma go ahead and believe it. With CAR playing so much zone and the 49ers countering with RPOs, I thought I would see the same thing against SEA, but didn't.

Defensively I thought the failure of individual players led to the bad results. Meaning technique breakdown was more of the culprit than the defensive playcalls. On two big plays, there were screwups in assignment - the Graham catch on 3rd & 17 and the Baldwin one handed catch. If players are having lapses on critical 3rd downs, then the defense didn't come to play. I'm still going through the 1st half, but wanted to get this down. Kinda nice to only want to watch half the game. lol at me thinking the 49ers had a chance going into this game. Still outmatched by SEA on every level.

Well you just threw your whole argument out the window with using that trash. Did you not watch the game? Did you not see AA or Purcell play?

Swing pass to RB and pray he makes a play

Also the play design could be to open up the top WR. The CB picks up the RB on the swing pass (maybe with a fake?), MLB follows crossing route, safety can't step up in time.

They are both barely beyond the first and both double covered.

ok, now u guys are just trolling with those PFF stats. You had to have realized by now, that they're pure b******t.

UNLESS!!! They're graded on a curve, per team. then it would make sense.

Purcell got pushed around and AA took himself out of plays.

The D-Line was pure trash.

DL is in his face on the right side. Chances are the ball gets tipped.
