ILB - This is gonna be a rough situation for the remainder of the season. Hodges was already benched. Considering I said last week that he played one of the worst games from a LB I'd seen in a while - not surprised one bit. Wilhoite played a little better, but he's still Wilhoite. He's almost like a Blaine Gabbert of LB's. He can do a few things from time to time to make you start to believe, but in the end is just, "meh". Doesn't make the big plays when they're there and plays too passively. Bellore got taken advantage of when he came in as well. The very first play after Bow went down the Cowboys ran right at Bellore for 20+.

DB - I thought our DB's played fairly well. The biggest problem we had in the passing game was that we couldn't stop the run game consistently. Because we were struggling with gap integrity JoN had to rely on a lot of run blitzes to fill the gaps, which exposed the secondary.

Very true about Wilhoite. He didn't look quite as out-of-place as Hodges. I hope Skov can offer a little something, despite his lack of speed.

What are your thoughts about Bethea? IMO he seems to go to the right place, but isn't fast enough or strong enough to make a timely play. I assume that he's O'Neil's safety blanket, but it feels like a weak or poorly placed blanket.

And people here are trying to defend O'Neill. His play calling and the way he is teaching, adjusting to the personnel on his defense is embarrassing. Setting guys up to fail isn't going to cut it for another 12 weeks.
Why were the 49ers successful the first 2 drives and then looked totally inept for the rest of the game?

Did the Cowboys adjust or did SF go away from what was working?

Is Kelly and co. being out coached by teams adjustments especially at halftime?

So far 2nd halves have not been kind to SF
WTH? I've never seen the film thread leave the front page on the first day. Interest seems to have really dwindled. I know it's not the same for me now. Still great job THL and JD...

We aren't going to stop the run with what we have left. At this point he safe until the season is over.

That new DL coach is doing a pretty terrible job IMO.

Not sure if it's the DL coach, the scheme, the players, or some combination of all 3.

I just know when Tomsula was here we could rely on the run defense to be decent, if not very good. I wish he was never promoted and stayed as a longtime position coach a la Rathman.

Don't have much to work with either. First it was Ian Williams out for the year, now Bowman. AA and DeFo are banged up. Purcell stinks. It's going to be ugly the rest of the way for the defense.

Now with Bowman and Ray-Ray out, look for about 400 passes in the middle of the field both vertically and horizontally. How will O'Neil adjust?

Remember when we'd only rush 4, and generate pressure and sacks? That was awesome

We were 7 for 7 on first downs in the first half (something fans were complaining about coming into this game)...0 for 4 in the 3Q.

I see a pattern here...

Same o same o. Getting out coached. While they're making adjustments, we're celebrating

Remember when we would stop the run without stacking the box? That was awesome

Wasn't the whole reason for AA's lack of stats in college based off of what he did (didn't do) with their DL scheme? Isn't this the same DL coach?

I want to set up one of the key plays that I felt began the poopball rolling down the hill midway through the 2nd quarter by first showing a play that occurred in the 1st quarter. This was on the first DAL drive. The defense gets outflanked by the jet sweep and the ball carrier gains the edge.

--------------------
(below) This is the first play of DAL's first TD drive (2nd quarter). Last week, SEA converted something like 4 of 5 3rd downs where they were facing 3rd & 10+. Defenses work so hard to get into a favorable down & distance and it's times like that were defenses can make the offense one dimensional.
Here, DAL starts off their drive with a holding call to eventually face a 1st & 20 - with a rookie QB and missing their star playmaker. This offensive holding call should be a drive killer for the DAL offense. AA with some nice moves here faking the rip to get the RT leaning one direction, then a spin move back to the inside.

AA doesn't look like he's injured here.
I can't look at this thread I HATE Dallas. Only good thing is we play them next year. I hope it's late into the season so our rookies (QB?) are ready to go.

Start by using guys like Dial, Blair, Dorsey and Jerrod Eddie more. Move to a 4-3 and Rush just 4 and stop blitzing so much, play more zone and keep the big plays in front of us so they don't crush us so frequently. Maybe we slow down the bleeding by playing more vanilla. Turnovers would be nice but I would rather start by slowing a team down first. With the way teams can score at will on us right now something different needs to be tried.
