Mills vs Cover1 blitz
The safety is playing very shallow for a Cover 1 safety.

The safety (blue) comes up to play Vance's Dig route. This allows Patton to work the Post.

At first I thought this was a bit underthrown but now I see Patton pulled a Davis and hopped for the ball. Keep your feet on the ground and he's gone.

The RT tackle gives a quick shove on DIal then looks to move to the second level. Skov reads the play.

By reacting quickly to the play, Skov beats the RT to the spot.

DJ bounces it outside where Brooks has head up and has the edge.

DJ gets around Brooks but had to go backwards to do it. Brock will miss the tackle but does his role and forces DJ back inside.

Beautiful. Love to see this team defense.

Yes, it was under thrown. CK had a clean pocket, stepped up and looked like he put a lot into the throw but it was short. For now, I am willing to say that with more time and experience, he would have laid the throw out in front with more air under it. That having been said, there were still several throws where more arc and less fastball would have been good completions. Two that come to mind are the ball Hyde could not catch in the end zone and a 15 yard throw to the left sideline that was too high for Patton.

It wasn't underthrown. It was right on the money. Patton jumped for it (like VD used to always do) for no reason which made it look that way.

This, like thl said if he doesn't jump it's a TD.

OK. I went back and ran this play in slow motion a dozen times. What I see is as Patton approaches the AZ 45 yard line he is looking over his right shoulder and as he plants his right foot on the 45, his toe is angled almost 90 degrees toward the right sideline and his right leg angle is clearly leaning back toward the ball. This definitely slows him down. He THEN hops for the ball. I agree he didn't need to hop for the ball but that step that he takes as he hits on the 45 definitely slows him down as if to play a slightly under thrown ball.
There was some great plays to Kerley that impressed me. Key 3rd down catch over the middle was it? and also one on the sideline.

the pass over the middle...man it was a bullet. Crazy how he holds on to those.

but also makes you think about that perfect pass to Chris Harper late in the game, that was dropped.

fake edit- man I forgot to post this from my laptop earlier in the week. :/

oh well, hopefully there will be more examples later today to highlight!

You're really nit picking now. The throw was on the money. Was it the most perfect throw? No, but it was good enough to hit him in stride if he didn't jump. Kaep plays always get that extra degree of critique.

You go back and look at the slow motion. The jump happened AFTER he slowed.

Final comment: I said in my initial review the ball was slightly under thrown. About a dozen pro writers have said the same thing. Nice completion. Big yardage. Much better than in the past. That's all.
Love reading this thread, thanks Thl

Thanks thl...watching today's game--NE--it seems Kaepernick is similar today with some good and some a moment late on decision making. But trying to keep up with the Patriots is a daunting task for this niner team!
Pats version?
Excellent stuff.

Madden is not a simulation type game. Thankx to NFL and EA.

no competition.

that all being said, I think Jonnydel plays Madden but I don't know how serious. Not sure about thl.

there are real football strategies you can take into Madden, like establishing the run to set up the pass. Or spreading a team out, and calling plays to open up the box, and then calling runs up the middle. But besides that, it's more an arcade type of game. Glitches, exploits, pre-canned animations.

I've been playing Madden for a loooong time. I've won a West Coast Championship back in the 2000s. Took a break from Tournys since 2006. I still play now (haven't in a few weeks). I'm sure I'm probably the best on this forum. but I say that on every forum I'm part of.

I've beat the #1 ranked Player on the PS4 Madden rankings in last year's version....and I've beat some high rank players this year. I just don't stay committed to playing all the time, to take ranking serious.

Just got home from Turkey Day vacation so I wasn't in front of my comp all week. I'll quickly put one up later tonight just to have one, even if the game is already in the rear view mirror.

I haven't played Madden in years, but I have in the past. Just barely average compared to my buddies. The progressions listed in the Coverages & Concepts thread and the highlighted key defenders in the passing game concepts posts could be used in Madden, I'm sure of it. When I last played there wasn't any pattern matching defense in Madden so all the spot drop zone defenses could be exploited with route combos designed to stretch zones.

Never mind. Too lazy to make a film thread for the Pats game. jonndel sends his regards, has been busy, and won't be making one either.
