Once again you're talking about vastly different QB's. Garoppolo was a 2nd round pick that set records in college, has the skillset that NFL teams are looking for.

Flynn was a 7th rounder. He had a few nice games and made himself some $$$$ but he never had the talent that Garoppolo possesses.

It's the same thing to me until he plays a full season with a team other than NE and proves otherwise.

I do like Garoppolo but we'd have to pay him big bucks soon and we have a lot of holes to fill on the team.
So curious about McVay that I have an irrational desire for the team to hire him. Very young, probably too young, but the description as a natural leader and very mature...

Shanahan is my first choice, but I don't think Jed will hire him. But I'd be very happy with McDaniels and Garapolo.

Yeah, pretty much my thoughts.

Well, if you want an offensive HC, there aren't really any other candidates. Anthony Lynn is probably just a Rooney Rule thing more than anything else, then there is McVay who is only a baby at 30, last but not least Tom Cable, LOL. So, go figure.

Any news on how the Shanny interview went today?

Hi fly-on-the-wall here reporting. Kyle was all business and demanded to know what the ownership's long term outlook was for the next HC and GM. Jed tried to lighten the mood but made some really bad jokes, including one about orange people that compared Donald Trump and Kyle's dad. It got awkward fast.

All in all, not so good, fly-on-the-wall rates it a 5/10. Kyle is gonna be coaching the Broncos.

Hoping these rumors about McDaniels are true. Shanahan is still my number one choice but McDaniels is not far behind and I think anybody who's complaining about his Denver stint from 6+ years ago and saying he's a product of NE are really taking him for granted. Would you rather take a 41-year-old Josh McDaniels with five additional playoff seasons of experience with NE under his belt, or be stuck with Tom Cable or some other B or C candidate? Beggars can't be choosers. The rumors stirring that we and McDaniels have mutual interest in each other are a good thing. The question is, will they hold up after the interview?

The only thing that I would question is what kind of staff can he put together? Would experienced defensive coaches tie their careers to such a young coach?

I would be OK with him if he could deliver on a good staff. He's not my first choice, but I'd make peace with it, depending on the aforementioned scenario playing out well. That really needs to be a huge focus in these interviews. Tomsula struggled to land top tier coordinators. Chip struggled to put together an adequate defensive staff. Whoever we bring in, that needs to be a huge vocal point. What kind of assistants can you guarantee?

Great choice.

It really isnt. Go in the draft forum and see the history of 7th round QBs over the past 20 years. They were 7th rounders for a reason, lacking in talent, physical skill...etc.

Doesnt require a giant leap of faith to believe Garoppolo is a far better prospect than Flynn ever was.

Lol then if he's good you have no chance to acquire him.

At which point he will be locked up by the other team and the niners will have to go pound sand. This team needs to bring in a number of QBs and hope they hit on one of them. Nothing wrong with bringing in Garappolo as the vet unless the price is too high. If the coach or GM comes from NE they will know more about the guy than we do and the decision will be in good hands. If the new HC/GM aren't from NE it will be the same crapshoot with any pick or FA.

Youre not filling all those holes in one offseason I promise you. If you can get a young QB to run a fairly functional form of your offense, everyone else benefits.

You dont optimally develop WRs or TEs by having CantHitheBroadsideofTheBarn as your starting QB.
