Look at his intangibles- guy has a quick release, great decision maker, good mechanics, accurate, throws receivers open, and is pretty athletic. Am I saying the guy is automatically destined for canton? No. I'm saying this guy has a skillset that is promising, and qiven our qb situation, he's worth looking into. Espcially if we get mcdaniels

Giving a lot of attributes to a guy with less then 100 NFL pass attempts.

If McDaniels leaves NE as many are speculating, SF would be the likely place to wind up. First of all, McDaniels is rumored to have asked for a full re-set. He gets that in SF. He is also interviewing with LA and Jax. In both of those places he would be working under a GM that is under fire and might get the axe if the team doesn't turn around next year. Most GMs want to hire their own HCs and that would create concern for McDaniels if he were to go to Jax or LA.

Also, for all his flaws, Kaepernick is still a better QB than either Goff or Bortles. So if the new GM can reach an agreement with CK, and McDaniels agrees to keep him, he has at least a bridge. Of course, if McDaniels believes Garappolo is all that, a trade could be made although I doubt it would include our #2 overall.

By process of elimination, I don't see McDaniels going any place else. He certainly isn't going back to Denver. Shanahan gets that spot, IMO. I eliminated two other spots above. Anthony Lynn looks like the new guy in Buffalo. San Diego may be the wild card because of Rivers but the uncertainty of the location may be a hang up.

SF is still a very desirable location with Levis and all that. It just looks like that is the landing spot for Josh McDaniels. I'm fine with that. He brings all the background of having worked with Brady, along with all the NE team-first discipline. I started on the Shanahan train but have moved over.

So if u r scouting qbs In the draft they have zero nfl attempts
So which one is it Garoppolo is the next Matt Cassel? Kevin Kolb? Matt Flynn?

Jeez give the kid a break it's not like he's been in the league for 8+ years give him the benefit of doubt before u anoint him just a career back up.

"Blaine Gabbert has prototypical size and excellent speed for the position. Shows the ability to make the right pre-snap reads. Possesses a quick release and has the arm strength to make all the throws. Well-balanced passer that rarely misses on short-to-intermediate throws. Extremely mobile to extend plays and fast enough to move the chains. Vocal leader and hard worker." - NFL.com

What they were seen as coming out of college doesn't always translate in the NFL.

Chargers are going defensive for the next head coach. They are looking to keep their entire offensive staff so its less of a transition for Rivers.

True. Gabbert almost has everything to be a Franchise QB.

Maybe Vrabel for DC or Crennel if O'Brien gets the boot.

I could be quite content with Vrabel at DC and McCoy at OC.

I could get on board with that for sure.

Kolb flopped after he was traded to AZ and played in a different system. You are comparing apples to oranges as Jimmy G would be playing in the same exact system that he has shown to be successful in. Also, drafting any QB@2 in this draft is also a humongous gamble and we're using a higher draft pick to get him.

He flopped in Philly too. Couldn't stay healthy and was pretty pedestrian too.

Since we don't have McDaniels yet we may be talking another system too. 1 step at a time. Not spending 50 mil to sign them though. Once you figure in the contract we have to sign him to it's the same commitment.

He won't hit his 50 mill deal unless he lives up to it. And the #2 pick would have a fully guaranteed contract.

I agree with you completely. In addition to what you have mentioned we need to consider SF's other positives. Will have among the most available cap space in the NFL, has the #2 pick in the draft, has a bunch of players returning from injury, has some young depth on a 3-4 front, a good RB.

I would not be at all upset if the 49ers went with Shanahan but I believe McDaniels is the right fit. Bring him along with Wolf or Kirchner. I would say Caserio but I really don't think he intends to leave NE.

It sounds like McDaniel and Riddick had been planning something of a package deal by the hints and praise they have been giving.

I wouldn't be completely upset if that were to happen. Better than several of the other candidates for HC and Riddick comes across as a pretty sharp cookie on the TV.
