McVay did not turn the job down. 49ers just weren't quite ready to make a offer and the Rams jumped in.

From what I've been reading about McVay we missed out on the best coach available.

Nobody knows that. Washington looked like a pretty dysfunctional team, with a lot potential. Atlanta on the other hand...

McVay will be judged on what he can do with Goff. Goff still need major work but when a team asks you at 30 years old you say 'yes'. You can't wait to hear what another team will do if you already have an offer on the table.

Ok, then I don't understand whaiit is troubling about trying to get him joing Kyle's staff

Shouldn't Kyle be able to assemble his own staff? He has obligations to the Falcons right now and I doubt he told Jed and Paraag "go ahead and assemble a staff for me."

Where are you guys getting this? I haven't seen it anywhere.

Never mind I found it.

Thing about McVay is that he has been working under an offensive mind. I mean he just took over play calling this year. I'm pumped about Shannahan!

No guessing whether I was all in on Kyle right from the start. LOL.

McVay did not turn the Niners down ( he wasnt offered anything)

We did not "miss out" on McVay

Depends who you choose to listen to. At the time the popular narrative was that Baalke was ready to hire Gase, but York stepped in and chose Tomsula. Then once Baalke got fired, the narrative flipped that it was Baalke who stepped in at the last second and stopped Gase from being hired.

I don't know what to believe, and at this point, it does no good to speculate. Baalke is gone and we know Jed is not clean in any of this. Hiring Shanahan is a good start and I'm actually pretty confident they'll pair him with a good GM.

I am cautiously optimistic. This fan base has endured a lot and it is time things turned around for the better.
Someone tell Jed to go on vacation to some remote place were there in no access to media of any kind and return the day after the Super Bowl

I liked McVay but Shanahan was my second choice, McD my third. McVay was so young I'm more than fine with KS! Now to see the staff in a few weeks.

Edit: one thing I've been wondering--since Kyle preferred Cousins to RGIII which QB will he favor in the draft? My guess is Trubisky as he seems more accurate but perhaps less athletic than Watson.

Go pack go! And sign, sign, sign, before he changes his mind.

Yes we're a dumpster fire, but this could be the pivotal moment that makes us respectable again.

I feel like he would lean more towards Watson. Watson has all the intangibles that you cannot coach up, all his issues are fixable. I think if he goes with a QB in this draft, it would be Watson.
My ideal scenario for KS and whoever our GM is going to be.

1. Trade a 4th and a conditional 4th next year for AJ McCarron (if he does well, it turns into a third). Draft a mid-late round QB to develop for depth and insurance. (like Kirk Cousins was).
2. Trade our number 2 pick to a very needy QB team (like the jets at 6). This would give us some extra picks that would be very good, potentially a first in 2018. We could take BPA and just load up on quality young players.
3. sign some veterans in FA to help implement the system and teach the guys how to be professionals.

I know some people don't care for AJ, but I think this would be a great scenario and would put us in a great position going forward. It also wouldn't hurt us too bad if AJ didnt work out. This would give us the jets first round pick in 2018 that we could use on a QB if need be.
