That's just it. We only need one Bull type leader that has total control. Those teams you mention kinda have that.

Do we really know how Jed and Paraag have gone about it? the apparent leaks and we have had a lot of withdrawals that make us look less than stellar.

The HC as dictator arrangement fails a lot more often than it works. For every Belichick or Bill Walsh you have a whole bunch of other guys that can't handle that power responsibility. The way Atlanta and KC do it, where the HC and GM are basically on the same level and collaborate with each other isn't a bad way of going about it.

Those teams you mention kinda have that.

They really don't. The teams where is one guy that runs everything completely are very few.

Take a closer look there is always an alpha in the successful ones. Baalke tried to be here but.......

Bill Walsh had John McVay, he was essentially Walsh's GM when Walsh relinquished the role. They had a beautiful football relationship. Bill wasn't a dictator anymore in that regard. McVay had a hand on pick guys too, the reputation of Bill just overshadowed McVay's very underrated ability. Bill credited McVay many times.

Umm.... They interviewed a GM that was connected to each coach they interviewed. Also, what type of team would wait around until after the SB or playoff run so the coach can start picking a GM. They obviously discussed the GM names with each coach and now that they have the coach, they are going to let him see how he lines up with the finalists and get his input.

Exactly. Is that what you needed to do if you want the pats system? No. Ok we will do it our way and not risk losing out on the other possibilities. It's just a choice they made when it would obviously be a risk to wait. If they thought it through? I am sorry but I don't have that much faith in them. Blinkers on maybe.

Actually, that's not true. Bedard never says taht Jed interviewing GM candidates eliminated McDaniels from wanting to make the jump. Rather, he says,

"All the while, both McDaniels and Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia will be in their current jobs for at least another year. Why? No one has a good answer. The 49ers insisted on interviewing GM candidates, which may have turned off McDaniels, who wanted to choose his own GM."

So basically, Bedard is saying he doesn't know and speculates that it might have had something to do with Jed interviewing GM candidates, though he never explains how that would have eliminated McDaniels from picking his own GM if he had continued through the process (and beat out Shanahan).

I should have put the "might have" disclaimer like I did in my earlier comments. Thanks for pulling me up on that.

Why would he make up such inferences if there were not some truth in it. It would never obviously be admitted to by McDaniels. Bedard would be making a very long bow in a highly recognised sports mag.

You know the senior bowel is in a week? They need a GM in here asap to get started on prep. They are hoping to have Shanahan give his input next week. You can't waste a draft waiting around for something stupid like that. Mike Nolan was here and he was the alpha, look how that turned out. lol

Hearing #49ers were interested in bringing Vic Fangio back to Bay Area as DC, but he's under contract in Chicago and Bears blocked move.

Don't worry. Paraag has us covered.

But Walsh still had final say. Having final say and being comfortable with a GM you trust to make some moves/calls without your 100% over-site are not mutually exclusive things.

Okay cool. Now where's the Kawakami, Florio, and Cohn articles saying he picked up the phone and laughed in our faces? I'm waiting.

As much as I hate those guys and their hack writing, I wouldn't be surprised if vic really were to do that ha

Me neither lol. I was being only half-sarcastic. After what happened two years ago I wouldn't blame Fangio.
