The HC as dictator arrangement fails a lot more often than it works. For every Belichick or Bill Walsh you have a whole bunch of other guys that can't handle that power responsibility. The way Atlanta and KC do it, where the HC and GM are basically on the same level and collaborate with each other isn't a bad way of going about it.

Exactly. Is that what you needed to do if you want the pats system? No. Ok we will do it our way and not risk losing out on the other possibilities. It's just a choice they made when it would obviously be a risk to wait. If they thought it through? I am sorry but I don't have that much faith in them. Blinkers on maybe.

Bill Walsh had John McVay, he was essentially Walsh's GM when Walsh relinquished the role. They had a beautiful football relationship. Bill wasn't a dictator anymore in that regard. McVay had a hand on pick guys too, the reputation of Bill just overshadowed McVay's very underrated ability. Bill credited McVay many times.
