Good take.
Yeah, this team is too tight to have any divided locker room IMHO.
But wow - you gave up THREE firsts and you need insurance? Yikes. I hope it's a developmental concern due to lack of playing time and nothing else.

I don't hate the move but….
it's unprecedented. And usually when that happens it's bad.
hey Lynch. The WHOLE point of drafting a cheap QB is so that you can maximize the roster elsewhere. That's why you should have cut Jimmy as soon as you could.
how's our IOL depth looking?
hows our safety depth looking?
niners lead the league in doing things that no one else does. And that's great because we've won so many rings lately. 🤦♂️
Those are two separate issues. Even if they carried the 3 best QB's on the planet, they'd still not see their deficiencies on the OL and S positions.
Maybe they will in 2023?
It's not a terrible move but…
every other team in the history of the NFL just cuts Jimmy, saves the money, and goes forward into the future on a single mission.
our team fails to move in a single direction in unison. That will be our downfall.

I would've rather just cut jimmy and be gone but from a pure business view this move makes sense. They still save $20 million they have the 5th most cap space in the nfl and instead of losing Jimmy for nothing and just getting back cap space they still have the opportunity to either trade him or have the best back up in the league and maybe get a comp pick for him at the end of the year.

I think it's more than a Jimmy and lance move.
It's a potential job saving move. For both shanny and lynch.
If lance busts one and or both of them are gone. You cannot spend that much and hitch your horse to lance and have him bust.
However, if he busts and they put Jimmy in and still make the playoffs I think they both keep their jobs.
It's savvy for them if for whatever reason lance doesn't work out. I'm just surprised Jimmy went along with it.

The 49ers have a history of not being able to make clean transitions from one QB to the next. It goes all the way back to Y A Title and John Brodie. We had De Berg and Montana. Montana and Young. Alex Smith and Kap. Now this.

Alex Smith to Kap wasn't any problem or delay at all. Kaps rookie year he played here and there. The next year they traded Smith for two 2nd round picks, the same year the 49ers went to the Super Bowl.
